DIVISION 3 GAMES

Smoking Guns against Trav Spoodle means the number last in this game against one of the 4 teams that is chasing FU. And this game shows that the difference between these 2 teams is not just a coincidence. Where Iman and SG are building for next season, hoping their players have grown by then, Travis and TS have a team that is capable of getting results already this season. Just look at the stats and they tell it all: SG even played with more NSL than TS, but TS has all the right players on the right positions, where SG play ultra defensive with more midfielders than defenders. That creates a bonus difference in TS’s advantage, big enough to make that TS has almost 20 EMP more, and that of course was enough for a victory, in this case: 15-6. TS still chasing FU, while SG will be better next year, you’ll see.

At the beginning of the season, we had a top 3 in div 3, with FU, TS and DV, and then came the rest. However, in the last couple of weeks, Fanatics United kept winning their games, and as a matter of fact, they did that against their rivals, so nowadays, we have a top 1, which is FU, and behind him there are 4 teams chasing him: as DT and FE joined TS and DV. Close behind those teams is Aros VK. They are on the 6th position, only 2 points behind the number 5, so a win could make the posse that is chasing FU grow from 4 to 5 teams. Only 1 win looks not that hard, but if you know that this weeks game for AV was against FU, you get the picture: that is tough! Nonetheless, Christer took his chance, and finally, AV managed to do what no other team has done before: steal a point against FU! They needed a grudge to perform as good as FU, to create just as many chances, and to score exactly as many goals, but I guess it was worth it! AV actually needed a win to catch up with the top 2-to-5 teams, so this 1 point will not be enough, although mentally, you can count this as a victory, as Christer won’t see his gravestone in next weeks press. Brian will have to deal with this, this must be a new feeling for him. However, in spite of losing these 2 points, he is still pretty far ahead of the rest.

Two of the 4 teams that I mentioned earlier, chasing FU, are Deo Volente and Defrosted Tunafish. When they play against each other this week, of course that promises a lot of excitement. After we have already seen AV and FU share points, a win in the DV-DT match would mean that 1 team comes 2 points closer to FU, and the other team sees AV coming near. Also, when it comes to direct promotion (as not only the champion, but also the number 2 goes to division 2 directly), this could be a “6 points-match”. Claudio was more eager to make sure that this important match would be decided in his favour than Otto was, as DT played a boost where DV just played a strong team. That boost was enough to win the match, as DV apparantly doesn’t have that amount of luck in the league that they have in the cup. That makes that DT win 3 fair points, and stay in the race for at least the 2nd position, and who knows what more in the end, while DV fall behind a little, after losing a lot of points in the last couple of weeks.

The match between the Falcons and the Adelaide Kickers is a match in the bottom half of the table. And even though you cannot relegate from div 3, I can understand that you don’t want to be in the imaginary relegation zone there. And that is why I can understand why FA wanted to win this match. In div 3, the difference between the teams in the top half and the bottom half seems big, but even if you’re a team in the bottom half, you want to be the best team in the bottom half, and that means that you have to win the games against the other bottom half teams. Playing a grudge was good enough for Nik to achieve that with FA, as he beat Davids AK 8-1. So now it’s up to BS to see if it’s also enough to “lead” the bottom half of the table.

Vitesse Arnhem didn’t start too well at the beginning of the season, but since Wouter has been able to make the NMR a couple of times lately, VA suddenly started to win points. This week, it even shows that VA is capable of troubling the top teams, as this week they beat no other team than Fantastic Eleven. After the draw for FU and the defeat of DV, this was Clives chance to benefit with FE, but with only 80.25 NSL on the pitch, FE actually didn’st stand a chance against VA. I don’t know if Clive underestimated VA or that he seriously needed to rest some players, but VA even won this match with 9 players. Okay, FE had 10 players on the field, but nonetheless….. The 19-18 was fair, as VA had the better NSL, EMP and chances, and although the difference in goals wasn’t big, it was enough to beat FE.

Speedsters against Blue Storm FC is another match in the bottom half of the table, and thus another bottom half team had the opportunity to win 3 points. After having seen the FA-AK match, we already knew that BS could still be in the lead of the bottom half by winning this weeks match. But SS did not want to go along with that. Magnus played a strong ONE team, and even though Bryan played a boost to help BS a little, that little was not enough to counter that ONE tactics, in the end. A closer look shows that, in spite of less NSL, BS even was awarded 1 chance more. But the SS GK keeped just a tiny little bit better, leading to a small victory for SS: 11-10. However, this match could have ended the other way around just as well. And in that case, the difference still would not have been big. This week, SS just was the luckiest team.
