DIVISION 2 GAMES

Top versus second bottom – and you might be able to tell which team is which from the result. Colin has had a difficult start to the season with AS, and his ENF tactic just didn’t pay dividends. This was partly due to the early sending off of Gary Breen – but even had the CB stayed on the pitch, his team’s EMP would have been below-par. DL could certainly not be accused of under-performing. Even with the late red card of Striker Gold, Martijn’s team played superbly, EMPing 133 with only 94 NSL on the pitch – a performance that many 1st division teams would be delighted with. The match ended 14-1. This takes DL’s league record to played 9, won 9. AS have lost 6 out of 9. Unless things change, neither of these sides will be playing in this division in Season 12.

AR and PN both started this game on 9 points – hovering around the relegation zone – but not too far off the top 6 if they start to click. This result will have helped neither team in this regard, as Don and Kelly’s teams failed to register a goal between them. Don will probably be the happier boss as he picked Kelly’s WP tactics, and replied with a OFF – allowing the home side to bridge a 10 NSL difference (94 to 84) and take a point from the game. Top marks for the marking as well ?.

SH are rock bottom of the league and are in trouble (I’m sure I do not need to tell Len this); while Mike’s EU are in decent form and currently are in the play-off mix. So would this game go to the away team on a run, or the home team in need of a boost? Well actually, it would go to neither. Mike must have felt injuries round the corner, as he put only 79 NSL on the pitch – providing a great opportunity for SH to net their first win of the season. Unfortunately for Len, his SM tactics simply reduced his sides EMP and reduced chances to zero. Still, a point is a point – and this might be the block that SH needed to build on.

TJ have not been a big beast in SAEFL for some time; but they are looking set fair for a play-off role this season, and would have been confident in beating a NH side that has been up and down this season, and before the game were one of 4 teams marooned on 9 points. So it is to Robert’s credit that Heath managed to take a point out of this tricky game, with a 7-7 draw against their upwardly-mobile opponents. ONE and WH are similar tactics, 89.75 and 90 NSL are similar bases from which to net performance, and 9 NSL keepers are … well … both 9 NSL ? So a draw was certainly fair.

MR were on 9 points before this game (I’m fed up with typing 9) – and that didn’t change after 90 minutes against Peter’s ES, who dominated this match from start to finish. Bruce rested up, and played a defensive BC in the home of limiting damage. Unfortunately, ES were having none of it, and nearly 100 NSL on the pitch (aided by a boost) created a gulf in performance that allowed Storm to score 11 unreturned goals. Could one of the original big guns really be heading for the Division 3 trap door? Bruce will need to start taking action soon …

In the division 2 GAME OF THE DAY, 2nd played 3rd with Tim’s DS slugging it out with Michael’s GU. And it proved a really tight game. Both managers played mid-90 NSL teams, with the home boss opting for offence, and the away gaffer deciding on defence as the best form of attack. And indeed it was … as GU netted a 1-0 win as United took their only chance of the game from GazaJr. DS fans will be concerned that their team picked up two ugly injuries in Packer and star AS Boateng. Could this be a start of a slipperly slope? Time will tell. DS and GU now are both on 18 points with +8 goal difference. Other than GU, Martijn will probably be the happiest manager with this result.
