DIVISION 2 GAMES

AR and ES – both on 17 points, both stuck in the middle of the table. Who would come out on top? Well, in this game, to be frank, only one side really got into top gear. And that side was AR. Don is building a decent little outfit into a side that, with luck, could still challenge for promotion. With a grudge and 90 NSL on the pitch, they ripped into Storm from the start, EMPing an impressive 133 despite having a man sent off! (had he not been, the side would have EMPed 136.4 – or an incredible 150% EMP to NSL!!!) Not surprisingly, ES could not cope, and AR deserved every goal in their 16-4 win. Other sides will see this result, and may just start to worry …

Who can stop DL? That was the whisper going round, well, my head this week. Perhaps DS, who have been having a solid season in their own right. The game was very interesting, very close. DS performed out of their skins, and shaded the EMP battle. However, for some unknown reason, the away keeper played better than the Scientists stopper, allowing DL to take home the spoils. Furthermore, the injury to a star WH also had a marked impact on their goal scoring opportunities. This was very hard luck on an impressive looking Dead Scientists – who must wonder what they did to deserve to lose this battle. One word – grudge J.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 17

The Jazz look like they could make a play for promotion this season (from the play-offs). AS, a shadow of their once great selves at the moment, can only look on and home to stave off relegation. Their plight was not helped this week as the home side put in one of their best performances of the season to easily dispose of Selection – in fact, on this performance, Jazz look truly Division 1 class J AS need to pick it up, and quick.

GU are very close to an automatic promotion spot at the moment. The Historicals are stuck to the bottom of the table. So surely an easy home win? Far from it! SH put in the kind of performance that makes you amazed that they have not got significantly more points this season. GU performed equally well, in another performance that would cause top flight teams difficulties. With two early sending offs (including Nevland – add that one to my press Peter J), the game swung on very little. In the end though, a grudge by Grammar (which I was amazed at but am now impressed by) saw the club home to 3 points.

3rd and 4th bottom of division 2. It doesn't really bear saying. But those are the stark facts for NH and MR. And this was a huge game, because with the gap at 4 points, if MR lost to NH, the gap to safety would stretch to a mind blowing 5 points from ES. And that is the situation Melchester are faced with, because their side just didn't do the business on the day. SM can work a treat, but WH is not quite attacking enough for it to have its full effect, and a superior performance by Heath allowed 8 chances and 3 goals.

EU were 9 points below DL before this week and could not afford a slip-up. PN were only just in the play-off zone and could not afford a slip up. Someone was going to leave disappointed. And in what was another fantastic battle, with EMP that graces these games, both sides went out for that all important win. With WH and WP being chosen, and with similar keepers on the field, it all came down to performance. In the end, PN had that extra gear and nearly 130 EMP saw them create the chances to take the game 17-15, despite a valiant effort from E. Fechugol. So, the gap to DL is now 12 points. They think it's all over? You betcha!
