PRESS REPORT

DIVISION 1

Alcohol Anonymous

New Season Training Suggests Positive Times Ahead For AA

Make no bones about it, last season was a struggle for AA.  But early indications that this season might be one where AA, perhaps after a few weeks of testing, get back to their best.

Out of the 35 players on the roster at the end of the season, 22 put in improved training performances – measured using a number of methods - with only 7 training less effectively.  In particular, gaffer N.A.Clue noted the excellent determination and professionalism of DS W. Altercapio, of AS L. Fontaine, of W M. Essien and CF M. Addog.

“The club paid good money for these players some time ago – but AA will now reap the rewards of investment.  I have been particularly impressed with the stature and confidence of Altercapio, and he will be the new club captain where selected, with Brant, Edinburgh and Mirza filling in where needed”.

The AA manager also highlighted the improvement made by the likes of J. Edinburgh and A. Hleb.

”I have been waiting for some time to place Jason in the team.  Although he has some way to go to fulfilling his potential, he can now be deemed a top 11 player.  People like Hleb, Mirza, Johnson1 and Cullingford also have potential and this year should see one or two of them step up to the plate.”

So, can AA fans expect a title push.  Clue was wary to give too many clues as to his expectations:

“Let’s just take it week by week.  No doubt the squad is stronger than last season – but it’s only season 2 out of a 3 season plan.  Not saying that I wouldn’t welcome a push for the championship.  AA are always to spend big money on the big players.  But I will not break up what could be the most exiting squad ever assembled at Anonymous for the sake of a good week or two”.

So, you heard it here first.  Put your money on AA for relegation!

AA Sign 4 as Boss Looks for Revamp

Pre-season 11 cannot be said to be the most transfer-crazed for AA, but in the weeks before kick-off, manager clue has been moulding his squad by wheeling and dealing, in long-term looking moves that, one suspects, may take at least a season to come to fruition.

In the biggest deal, chairman Foss gave Clue the money to trade with his old club, OC, to bring in a number of players.

In comes highly exiting CM R. Holt, together with promising FBs E. McHale and F. Ball.  However, AA had to give up their best player, CM Wictoria, to clinch the deal.

Clue tried to calm angry fans by saying: “Yes, I know that this deal is controversial.  Wiccy has been a superb for AA over the years.  But every player has his price.  This is a building year, and the club looked at the situation and decided to sell while his market value is high.  Although the lad’s still getting better, he’s 30 now, and we felt that as the club are looking towards next season, that nabbing players like Holt and Ball was too good to pass up”.

The deal also saw early-peaking striker P. Jevons leave the club.  We wish them both well.

In the other main deal. WH K. Illbill, who had an excellent pre-season, left for pastures new, joining TB for another good prospect – CM B. As.

AA thanks both managers for their professionalism in doing the deals.

In other deals, legendry player B. Simpson left the Alcies on a free transfer, given because of his outstanding service to the club.  B. McCarthy, M. Blonde and M. Brown also left the club.

Lastly, another legend, D. Mills retired.  Mills has immediately taken over the post as assistant manager to Clue, and expects to take over management of AA when Clue himself retires at the end of the season.  Old club made has also joined as head of youth development, while Simpson is expected to take up a role with the club next year – possibly as assistant to Mills.

Clue is expected to continue dealing over the next few days.  He is expected to try to bring in a midfielder and a defender.

Simpson , Mills and Sylfar – Legends at AA

At a total cost of 2.5 million – both going for record fees at the time (Mills 800k and Simpson 1.7 million), the bedrocks of the defence of steel played week in, week out for AA (Mills 86 appearances; Simpson 91).  In total, Mills played 125 first class games, and 10 international games.  This in an era of mass deals.

Simpson, expected to retire at the end of this season, has to date played 101 first class games, and 9 internationals.

DS Sylfar, the other rock that AA was built on, should not be forgotten.  Before he left the club at the end of last season, he had racked up 92 league matches (all for the Alcies), and internationals.

269 league, and 27 internationals.  Will there likes ever be seen again?

AA Gives 6 a Chance as Youth is Given Its Head

As a club who prides itself on giving its youth players a decent chance to stake their claim for first team games, AA this week picked the six players it thinks can make a real impact in the world of football.  They are:

Obviously, attention will focus on exiting prospect Owusu-Abeyie. But manager Clue also noted the potential of another of the band:

“I really like the look of Davenport.  He has the steel in his eyes that were last seen when Danny Mills was at the club.  He has a determination and ethos that suggests he could be a great.  Time will tell”.

Overall, Clue was pleased with his crop.  Although not all will have careers at the Alcies of Simpson, Mills and Sylfar, we can only hope that one or two are able to forge long-lasting and glorious careers at the greatest club in SAEFL history.

Old Friends Come Together in Battle of the Olduns

Well, well, well.  Who’d have thought it.  Well, pretty much everyone, I would have thought.

Because AA and NW, two of the big guns in SAEFL, are set to slug it out in week one of season 11.  Expect bruised bodies, and bruised egos.  These two clubs (and managers) have huge respect for one another – but they will take no prisoners on the day.

Foss said of his counter chairman “Mike is a true great of SAEFL – as much as I hate to say it J.  We have had many battle over the years, and, although both clubs are going through periods of change, it is likely to be as tight, and as exiting, as ever”.

Foss will try out his BC tactic on NW.  Although not his strongest suit, Clue feels that Noshaki may look to use his CP tactic on the Alcies (although WP is another alternative).  Fans of AA are expected to give Wictoria a huge ovation before he plays his final game for the Alcies.

Apocalypse

After an fantastic first full season under the stewardship of Manager Martin Bell, Apocalypse finished an excellent 3rd place, with hopes of clinching the 2nd spot still a possibility on the final week of the season.

Pre-season has seen a few changes to the AP squad with 4 new players brought in to bolster the first team.  Week 1 of the new season will also see the last game for the class striker E. Mbamba who moves on to JG.

What should be expected from AP this season?  The club hopes to remain though to beat, and expect it to be entertaining along the way.  Another 3rd place finish would be a great season for AP, although they expect a more competitive challenge from a number of teams in the battle for a place in the top half of the table.  Like every team as they begin a new season AP has aspirations for the title, but the Manager feels that they are a number of quality players away from a title challenge.  As for the cup – well we’ll just have to wait and see.

Catbel Athletic

Well well, after a long break, SAEFL is finally starting again.

Season 11 is about to begin, and at the time the few of you that actually read press are reading this, we have played the very first matches.

First of all I'd like to welcome the 12 new managers in division 3.

It's great to have 12 new (or in some cases: older) enthousiastic managers added to this fantastic game. Let's hope that you will enjoy it to the max, and if you do, you will probably get hooked on it enough to see your teams get better and better.

For Catbel Athletic, the new season will be some sort of test.

In season 9, all of a sudden we relegated to div 2, quite unexpected. So last season, of course, the objective was to win the Championship, or at least win promotion back to division 1.

We were happy to see that those goals were achieved, and even though at the beginning of last leason, some older players were obtained for their NSL, we did not have to sacrifice too much talented youth for it. In the CA roster, that contains 38 players, only 6 players are dropping (including killer players like McPhysto, Maasakkers and Milamber), so we expect to grow stronger and stronger in the future.

However, even though CA is getting stronger, will it be strong enough to survive in division 1 this season? That is the test I was talking about.

Season 11 promises to be extremely difficult in div 1. If I want to stay in with CA, I know what I have to do: make sure to keep 3 teams beneath CA.

But if you'd ask me to name 3 teams, I wouldn't know which teams to pick.

Sure, it might be obvious to pick the new teams, the teams that came from div 2.

But look at IQ: Terry has done a wonderful job last season, and already had a lot of young players on the best Midfielder list. Those players have only got better and better, and since most of the players in his roster were young and rising, IQ has only become a lot better. Besides, Terry has proven in both cup and league last year, to be a very good manager.

The promotion of OC has been not much of a surprise either. OC always has had a lot of potential, and when Keith took over, OC again had a manager with a lot of experience, and having been a commish of a EFL game himself, Keith knows the ins and outs of this game, and that brought back the old glory to OC. In season 11, he will surely use that experience to keep OC in div 1.

So, what other teams might be candidates for relegation? The teams that were already fighting the relegation battle last season, and managed to escape?

Phew.....just have a look at those teams: JG, TB and AA.

Bart, Jeroen and Nathan have been rebuilding last season, and with their young and talented squads they have managed to stay in div 1 thanks to their managing skills. So, if their ability as a manager hasn't changed all of a sudden, and their young and talented squads have only got better, they will definitely be too strong to relegate.

Last seasons title candidates, TH (who eventually did win the title), NW and AP may have got a little weaker in some area's, due to the sacrifices they had to make in their race for prizes.

But hey, everyone knows that a team that is good enough for a top 3 position, does not turnover to a relegation candidate in the next season, after just 1 aging. Besides, when you look at the managers ranking, you will see that Mark, Mike and Martin have the top positions over there, and that isn't for no reason.

The "subtop", being EW, LU and FI? Will they be relegation candidates this season?

To be honest, I can't see why. Not only are Simon, Nuno and Marco wonderful, experienced managers, but the teams that they have been building in the past seasons might be ready now to challenge a title candidate like TH, especially since they did not have to make sacrifices in the end that would make their team weaker, in a race for the title.

Would that automatically mean that CA is relegation candidate number 1, since all the other teams are actually too good for places 10, 11 and 12?

You might almost think so, but in fact, I think that CA is another team that is actually too good to fall back to div 2, although that will be very difficult, because of all the reasons I just gave.

So, it will be a very exciting season. Not only when it comes to relegation by the way, because actually, all those reason work the other way of the table as well.

The differences in div 1 are very, very small this season, and as exciting as the relegation battle promises to be, the race for the title promises to be just as exciting.

TH is still my nr. 1 candidate, although Marks team has lost some strength.

But still, the depth in the TH roster is still amazing,  and even though TH got weaker, they must be able to go for a top position, maybe even nr. 1.

The only exception would be if Mark decided to go for the cup. In that case, we all know that he neglects a lot of league games (matter of priorities), and that might result in a midtable position (safe though). However, teams like EW, AP, NW and AA can be just as good, if they forget about the cup.

And what about FI, LU and JG? Do they have the depth in their team to perform week after week?

It's hard to predict, but let me try to make some predictions for Season 11:

Div 1:

            1.         Tottenford Heats

            2.         Apocalypse

            3.         Excelsior Warren

Div 2:

            1.         Druss Legends

            2.         Grammar United

            3.         Point of Napier

Div. 3:

            1.         Deo Volente

            2.         Adelaide Kickers

            3.         Fanatics United

Cup:

            1.         Jazz Greats

            2.         NoShaKi WC'98

3+4. InterQuartile Rangers + Tottenford Heats

Of course, it is shooting in the dark to predict these things, especially for div 3 as I have no ideas how good these managers and teams turn out to be. For almost all of the div 3 teams, I don't even know what players they have or what tactics they want to play.

However, it wouldn't be fun not  to predict div 3 too.

For the cup, it's also a guess of course. As soon as one of these teams starts to worry about relegation, they will  probably forget about the cup, and then some other team might benefit.

However, let's just see what happens for now, and after midseason aging, we will have a midseason review and analyse the situations again, and this time with a lot more knowledge about what's happening and what might be possible.

So, for all you guys: good luck and have fun!!

And Peter: thanks man!

Ivo, Catbel Athletic.

Excelsior Warren

From the Excelsior Herald...

A new season looms over Monument Park like gathering storm clouds on the horizon. Last season was a remarkable one for Excelsior, but the faithful know that most of the hard work was done in the first half of the season. Mid season ageing was a disaster and Excelsior struggled over the final run in, despite one or two shock wins. The word from those lucky enough to get information out of Excelsior's secret pre-season training camp is that the existing squad have not aged well, and the new talent looks decidedly mediocre. Already those who have seen it all before, are beging to whisper about a long hard winter ahead. The prevailing view appears to be that Bracegirdle needs to trade, and trade fast. This may not be as easy as it sounds. Last years fighting fund was frittered away and there are now a whole extra division full of clubs chasing the occasional gem on the draft list. Still, the new season always brings with it a feeling of renewed hope. It is too son for even the most fanciful of dreams to be shattered. Bring on the doom and gloom next week, for now let the faithful savour the anticipation of their dreams fulfilled.

F.C Inferno

WHAT IS GOING ON AT INFERNO

FI had a wonderful season 10. Recently promoted, the team managed not only to stay in division 1 but also to win the cup. Thus, this can be considered the most successful season ever by the team and will be always remembered by the fans.

Now, what to expect for the future? Some FI players have dropped and many others are still growing. Basically, we aim the same as last season: to do a fine job in division 1 while constantly building a pull of young talent.

We are making some interesting trades this week, and cracking players like MF Craque are leaving. However, we expect to receive good material for that and we will be stronger in the future. Watch, for example, the fine CM Stoichkov just acquired from PN or AS Wilson.

Always interesting in week 1 is to see how teams aged and what they are planning with trades. Here are some ideas I have and that might be totally wrong after week 1:

TH: Not as strong as last season, but still the powerhouse and title favorite.

NW: Also will lose power compared to last season, since Mike traded some youth for NSL in the end.

AP: Again a very string top 11, let's see if they come up with a strong backup tactic.

EW: Growing. Much probably a title favorite.

AA: Better than last season, maybe an outsider for the title?

LU: Stable, as some great players are losing NSL there are some other growing.

JG: Much stronger, a favorite for the cup.

TB: Also stronger, will be hot for the cup too.

CA, OC and IQ: I haven't followed division 2 so close (ERROR!!!), but all teams look young and growing. Last season, only one of the 3 promoted teams relegated. It won't be a surprise if this is the true again!

InterQuartile Rangers

Season 10 ended rather well for us.  We ended up in division 1 and picked up a lot of awards for which I thank those that voted for IQ.  I do agree with Peter that ES should have received the Giant Killer award.  Ironically, after mid-season aging I said IQ was a fifth place team and that's where we ended up!  So how did I promote to division 1?!?

My goal for this season is simple; not to relegate.  I have a strong first 11.  My depth may still be a problem.  The keeper situation is also questionable.  I did lose a couple of games last season due to resting players, specifically goalkeepers.  Gomes had the leading save rate until he aged.  So I think I lost those games due to not enough saves.

I still don't have a strong enough team for significant trading.  Considering the list of 'surplus' players I saw from some of the Div 1 teams it bothers me a little.  What am I doing here?!?

The first couple of weeks will give me a better feeling for how the season may go.  The cup draw was fortunate.  Some stiff competition, but not a group of death.  I don't know if I'll make it as far this season.  After all, I may need those grudge cards to prevent relegation.

However it happened I'm in Div 1and I'll make the best of it.  Just don't relegate, don't relegate......

Lisbon United

It`s a new season. LU have more players to rotate but not a strong 11 like last season.

We hope to stay in div1. As last season it will be hard but we can do it.

Good luck all. Enjoy the game.

NoShaKi WC98

Oaklake City

Season Preview: OC heads into season 11 as perhaps the weekest team in division 1.

OC was lucky to grap the last promotion spot in the final weel of the season, and then

aged poorly during the offseason. The only real positive was the immergance of youth player M. Jayden.

The  20 year striker has proven to be a very tallented player, and with NSL 10, Jayden will be the

target for most league games this season:

OC's primary goal for season 11 is to avoid relagation. This team is not strong enough to compete

for the title, or even to make a serious run at the cup. OC needs to get as many points as possible

in an effort to avoid division 2, while striving to get younger and better to help them compete in

seasons to come.

Key matches of OC: IQ and CA make for chances for OC to try and get points. Although both a good teams,

all 3 teams from division 2 will be competing to avoid relagation. Also highlighted on the calander are

the 2 weeks against FI. Keith is the original manager of FI, and always enjoys playing his old team.

Week 1 bring LU. LU was a top half finisher last season, and looked very srtong down the stretch.

As a CP/ZD team, LU was one of the top defensive teams in all of SAEFL. Over the last 6 weeks of the season,

the lowest NSL LU fielded was 93, making them one tough opponent. Although it is impossible to guess what

aging will have done to the team, it would be stupid to believe that LU would have dropped off by too much.

To counter the great defense of LU, OC will also go defensive. OC will try out the new BC tactic, and try and win

through time of possession.

Expected results: OC 0-0 LU

The Boelewieten

The Boelewieten InSight

Greetings to you all! Best wishes for season 11, have a great season, with great tradings, huge emps and lots and lots of Dutch spam!

Once, a few seasons ago, TB was a strong WP team, and at that time we loved playing against ZD teams! Then, at a stormy night in a Irish pub, the tradingfever caught manager Van Poppel and in a few hours time he sold his young stars to the Devil. The Devil offered him freaks for those youngsters, and somehow Van Poppel also lost that night his freaks! Shaky and with empty hands the manager went home, TB more dead than alive.

The day after, Van Poppel swore never doing trading again, till the last few weeks, the fever hit again. TB, turned from a WP team to a modest ZD team, got some very promising players from the youtdraft. TB bought also last season some topplayers from the draftlist, everything with the idea to have a backup tactic besides the ZD play. Guess what the manager did? Off course, trading your AM’s and WH, and why? Because the man thinks y can play CP with ZD players.

So what we see now in the TB squad. A defense with a very strong and promising section of AS. A volnerable section of FB, when are these gusys gonna drop? And a midfield with young and promising DM’s, great stats, but will they reach ever NSL 10? In the search of an extra DM because DM  M. Piper is leaving TB, the manager faced a very stiff tradingmarket. No DM’s for sale or trade. So we looked at replacement from other positions, CM or MF. The manager traded AS Wilson and AM Saartje to FI, gaining MF Craque and 600 K. And why those bugs; manager Babcock put the knife on TB’s neck, he did not accept overdraft anymore. And with that trade the mill of trading started. How to replace my AS, how to secure y have quality enough so yo can trade some new top FB’s half season.

So, did the manager made a mess? We must look at the results coming next few weeks to say something about that.

Prediction for season 11,

Nr 1 FI

Nr 2 JG

Nr 3 NH

Winner of the cup; TB

Greetings, do well!

The Jazz Greats

Well, first off i want to wish everybody a very good season 12 and welcome all the new managers in division 3.

After an exciting season 11 where JG managed to stay in division one, allthough it was close, the aging came as a bit of a disappointment.

Most players gained a bit of nsl but especially in midfield some players didn't grow as i thought they would and some players even lost nsl unexpectedly. And the defense was, as always, never any good to begin with.

So aging wasn't the joy i was hoping it would be. But on the upside, JG's attack is as strong (even stronger!) then ever and there is loads of trading material to strenghten the midfield and the defense. This will be needed because after a rather anonymous season 11 JG is now aching for a prize.

The title is still way out of our league (err..) but JG management has (modest as always) set hersights on the cup. Peter has restyled the cup format and this particular compitition looks more fun then ever. With a slim roster it's also the ideal opportunity to some glory without having to have roster like TH.

The above will mean that it will be a tough league season for JG. There won't be any easy matches this season as, overall, division 1 looks closer and stronger then ever.

So to summarize, it's gonna be loads of fun :)

Tottenford Heats

It's that time of the year again. week 1 is there and everybody is busy building a team.

Due to a holiday I didn't have time to trade yet but TH will try to do some trading in the following weeks.

We will have to trade as the aging was not very friendly to my team.

The team is not as good as last season but we will still be able to beat a lot of teams with our starting eleven.

It's the rotation that will be a lot harder this season.

I would also like to welcome all new div3 managers. I'm realy curious to know what kind of players they got in their rosters.

there are 336 new players in the game apart from all the youth pulls of the existing teams. This means there is a lot of work to do.

Experience tells us there will be some management changes in div 3 the coming season. When you get 12 new guys in a game there are always some guys who quit during the first weeks. Most of the time the reason is they don't understand the game. If there is any new manager out there who has a question no matter how stupid it is, please drop me an e-mail I will be happy to help you out. Also if there is anyone who would like to exchange rosters please drop me an e-mail. It's always good to know eachothers players, it helps with trading for both sides.

And last but not least i would like to wish the manager of the defrosted tunafish all the best in his first weeks as a SAEFL manager. :)

DIVISION 2

Adirondak Renegades

Welcome to Season 11 and the continuing rebuilding of AR. Of course, if AR are rebuilding, that implies that they were good at one time. From what I can find, AR started in the new Second division the second season of SAEFL. They were promoted to Division 1 for Season 3, and have been buried in Division 2 ever since.

I would like to announce the long awaited return of AR to Division 1! Unfortunately, that announcement will probably have to wait until season 12 (: While I think AR is vastly improved in the year and a half I have managed them, they are still not strong enough to win promotion.  Aging was not as kind as I had hoped, and the youth class, while very promising, will not make a major impact until next season.

AR management has spent a season and a half building a strong young team, and they have done a good job on half of the task (does that mean management has done a half-assed job?). AR is indeed a young team. Of the 35 players on the roster, 28 are age 24 or younger. Of the remaining 7, 2 are 25, 2 are 26, and 2 are GK, a situation which hopefully will be fixed as discussed below.

AR is being built as a strong attacking team, and I feel we have made great success in that area. However, we must make at least some effort to stop the other team and we have not been fortunate here. A major trade was made in season 10 to fix the GK situation, hopefully for several seasons. A strong, talented CB was traded to acquire GK R. Maida, age 22 nsl 9.75 and rising. He is now age 24 nsl 8.0. Quit smiling Marco : Youth GK W Evans 20 8.0 shows great promise in solving the GK problem, but that will not occur until at least next season.

The defense last season was carried by some strong veteran defenders who retired. The current defenders are not ready to carry the load. This is an area AR would like to improve through trade (no Marco, you still can't have ShivuteJr), so let me know if you are interested. The AR squad is full of nsl 8-9 defenders, none of whom stand out and deserve special mention.

Despite the pessimistic tone of the season preview this far, AR management is very excited about the future. Management focus has been on building a strong midfield and to date they feel they have been very successful. The current midfield roster includes:

CM D Way 24 8.25

CM D Ilkes 24 8.25

MF O Pulmao 23 8.5

WH A Kertez 20 5.5

WH W Itternik 21 8.0

WH W Hall 22 8.75

WH W Hell 23 9.75

WH T Niven 26 9.5

AM H Callahan 20 4.5

AM S Mann 21 7.25

AM N GoodmanJr 22 8.0

AM A Monster 23 8.75

AM A Man 23 10.0

AM R Mitreski 24 8.5

AM E ShivuteJr 24 9.25

AM D Fletcher 25 9.0

All except Fletcher, and of course the youth, increased last aging. AR management hopes that if the next 2 agings are kind, this midfield will lead AR into Division 1.

Strikers are unimportant. My kids, who have both played football for years, agree.

African Selection

All Right.....another season is under way. Luck was against the Selecs last year and they find themselves back in Div 2. No matter, it promises to be an exciting season as Select management have their work cut out for them. They have to identify the needs of the team in order to get back to Div 1 and to then go out and get the players that will get them back up to the top flight.

Also, the Selects are looking forward to the Cup this season. "Over the past few years, we have been known to mail in our appearances in the Cup" commented coach Charlie McKenzie. "However, this year there are no SAEFL teams, which is a good thing. Also, with the additional division the format has changed and it promises to be a little more interesting. The Selects are in a tough group with two Div 1 teams as well as SS from the lowest tier, so we will have a battle on our hands."

I hope that everyone had a safe and wonderful holiday season. Toronto had some snow the week before Christmas, but it has all gone now and with the weather on the plus side of 0, it does not look good for the backyard skating rink  at the Jarvis household.

Best of luck in the season.

Oh yeah. Does anyone know who the reigning World Junior Hockey Champs are???? C-A-N-A-D-A!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, I think the defending Olympic champs are Canadian as well....men and women!!!!!!!!

Dead Scientists

After what can only be described as a disastrous Season 10, The Dead Scientists are set for a major turnaround in Season 11. The Club have long been considered the underachievers of the league, but this season could finally see them achieve something. Promotion may be a bit unrealistic, but I'm confident the club will hold it's own in this division and may even surprise a few bigger clubs in the cup. 26 year-old CB H. Foxe could be one of the stars of the season, while AM M. Bresciano, 24, could play a major part in the second half of the season if he continues to improve. The goal for this season is to reach the playoffs...anything more than that is a bonus.

The chairman of the board here...

After last seasons, to put it mildly, dissapointing results I have had a "chat" with our manager of this once great, eh, well, good, hmmm, or rather  mediocre club. Well, he has promised to put in more effort this season (he better, or he gets kicked out!).

For the first match we face EU away. Had this been last season we would have gone with an ultra defensive tactic trying to grind out a boring goalless draw. But to please our few supporters still holding out Robert has promised to go all out for an exciting match where we simply try to outscore our opponents. Hopefully we will do just that...

Port of Napier AFC

Well the new season is starting and we have high hopes for this season after last season's not very great ending.  After being in second place for a lot of last season, we lost our promotion in the last game of the season on a Grudge card that was played against us.  By that time, our team had such low stamina points as a whole, that we had no starters left for the playoffs so we lost the first game and here we are again in Division Two.  But we are over that now and ready for the new season.

I am not sure that our team is really that drastically better than last year but we definitely are not worse either, so it should be interesting to see how we have turned out.  Last year, our goal was to make it into the playoffs, which we did easily, rather surprisingly, and actually went one step further and almost got promoted, which was pretty cool.  But then we didn't, so that is our goal this year.  Who knows whether it will happen or not but everyone can have wishes, right?

This week we play AS, who relegated, so it should be an interesting game to tell us where we are for this season in relation to everyone else and will put us on the way to our goal if we win but there is still the whole season ahead of us, which seems a long way off right now.

Stannington Historical

"We have turned SH from a squad of Senior Citizens to a team whose nickname will be "The Kiddie Corp", said Manager Lear. "After all, last season for SH was an absolute disaster where nothing went right from the start to the finish. So, we had to do a shakeup of the club."

Lear added,"We left a few veterans on the roster to help guide The Kiddie Corp until they develop into a solid functioning unit. SH is prepared to take their bumps this season even if it means getting relegated to the lowly depths of Div. 3."

However, not all is doom and gloom with the SH'ers. SH has managed to sign a couple of young prospects that are bound to cause SAEFL managers to drool when they see these players on the pitch. I know I will get the vultures trying to pry these players from my clutches.

*The 1st player is a 19 yo. 8.00 GK S. Tained.* He hails from a small village in Italy. Tained is as tough as they come. He told SH management that in his village he practised his GK skills by stopping rocks kicked at him, not any of these brightly coloured balloons that they call soccer balls. Tained has all of the tools to eventually become the top GK in the SAEFL. Lear said that Tained is being groomed to take over the top GK spot for SH sometime during the 2nd half of this season.

*The 2nd player is a 20 yo .9.50  DS B. Talon.* Talon comes from somewhere in the steamy depths of South Africa who happens to be an Everton fan, unlike all of his SAEFL counterparts who happen to be Man U(who??). supporters. Talon has speed to burn and possesses a skill level unlike anyone else his age. Lear told reporters that Talon was voted the youngest player coming out of South Africa  who would most likely succeed in the big league, SAEFL. He is not afraid to tackle anyone and has an uncanny ability to get the ball upfront without losing a stride.

SH wants to let the rest of the SAEFL know that they will  be making few deals this season because the plan at SH is that they are going to let their young players grow over the next couple of seasons, thus insuring the long term viability of the team.

Lear stated,"I can't wait until our Kiddie Corp have reached their potential because I firmly believe that if we live up to our long term potential, people will see SH challenging for the top spots in D-1 in a couple of seasons. The only drawback is that we may have to drop a division in the short term  in order to achieve our long term goals."

SH would to wish all of their SAEFL friends a Happy New Year and Good Luck in the upcoming season.

The Jazz

Hi everyone hope you all had a good xmas and New Year. The Jazz all returned to pre season training ready and waiting for the new seasons to start. Looking for a play off spot or to avoid religation this seasons. This seasons first game  is against SH who will be trying to get back into Div 1 this year after religation, a hard away game to start of with but the Toons will enjoy the away game playing SH again the last times they played was in the div 2 play off final which SH won 4-0 so The Toons will be looking for a good start and hopefully a win.

DIVISION 3

Adelaide Kickers

Adelaide starts off their first campaign with an away game against Smoking Guns.  Manager David Thomas is confident of at least a draw here given the results in the friendly matches played during the preseason against stronger teams.

"I have every confidence in the lads," said David, "they have played well in the lead up to our first real game and with those results we are looking for a finish at the end of the season at or near the top of the table."

So the club hopes that all travelling fans will make their way to the game to support the kickers in their inaugural game in their inaugural season.

Let's get kicking.

Aros VSK

Here is a short presentation of the manager of Aros VSK.

My name is Christer and I have managed in SAEFL before. I started out in SAEFL just when L&AEFL died back in season 1.

I then took over PN and played with them for some time. But while playing SAEFL my life made some big changes that forced

me to leave the managers job for a while. I met a girl, got married, became father, became father again and now my kids are

2 and 3 years old and I have actually got some time over to return to SAEFL (Peter : You lie its just an excuse not to change nappies).

This time I got the opportunity to create my own team from scratch.

I called my team Aros VSK. The "Aros" is the old name of my hometown Vasteras in Sweden. The "VSK" is the abbrevation of the

soccerteam I support in real life. Its called Vasteras SK and plays in Swedish "Norrettan" and thats the third division. They/we got

relegated last season :-(

When not spending time with my family or taking care of our house I play bowling in a club called Wictoria. (I named a player

after my bowlingclub when managing PN. I am pleased to see that she became a freak.)

I have just turned 37 years old so I am still young.

Deo Volente

In our first SAEFL match we welcome the poor VA buggers to our In Ri.

"It's going to be painful" manager Otto stated,

"very painful"

"I would have liked to keep this civilized, specially Wouter being an old friend and all.

But tensions had already risen with all that crap in the local Arnhem press. Yes i do like a glass every now and then.. so what?

Specially that remark of VA's W Amoah about my star CM Calixtus-III behaviour in the showers is completely out of place, let alone that it is private.

I even had to keep him on the bench this game, otherwise i fear things would have gotten completely out of hand.

It's a good thing Amoah is leaving VA soon. But Wouter better get a grip on his team fast and starts acting like a real manager, else the commish has no other way then to take control.

As i said before, i would have liked to keep things friendly, but Wouter leaves me no other way then to grudge him in our first game.

Not that i needed that grudge to win from VA offcourse.

Since all that mismanagement and financial trouble, VA had to rent out their own soccer field to a cowfarm. We let them use this little Dome, so it's not to much trouble for us to scout them. Therefore i'm confident we would have won this without a grudge."

Hopefully in half a year or so they will have their stuff in order and next game can be played at VA’s own stadium

I expect to reach just below 110 emp playing against VA

Anyway. A few weeks ago i was very confident that winning division 3 would be as a walk in the park for DV,

but after playing a few test games and sobering up i have to admit, 3th spot is probably as high as we can get this season.

So we had to change our tactic and aim for the next round in the cup instead.

But there we got drawn in the same as group as TH and CA, who won the 1st and 2nd division last year.

So that rules out a next round in the cup.

However, since there are no prizes to be won this year, i can use my grudges and boosts for fun,

and,

There

This first year is going to be year of rebuilding.

The second year DV will win division 3

The third year...

It's all in the book.

Falcons

All the players and management of the falcons FC are excited at the prospect of getting the season underway. The pre-season training has been beneficial and the several friendlies played over the festive season have given most of the squad a chance to ease into this league.

Nik Albert [FA]

Fanatics United

Hi, as my first game in the session I would like to excuse my team of misfits, they are new together and if we lose it was our fault (animosity), but if we beat you to the ground, enjoy the dirt. I would like to introduce my team and some of the star players.

B. Squig our current captain, some background on the squigs, they are round, short (+- 1 metre) creatures with sharp teeth, their teeth take up about a quarter of their body. With two strong stubby legs he can jump about 5 times his height, squigs normally come in a range of colours and B. Squig is blue. Their temper is nothing to be played with and no-body questions him or his sister’s (S. Squig) decisions.

More players to follow...

Smoking Guns

My name is Iman Widjaja, the new manager of Smoking Guns in division 3.

A little bit about myself I have played in MSWL leagues in MSWL itself, MSLF, SESL and will commence in FLATNZ pretty soon. This will be my first time playing in a SAEFL-like league. It's great to be in SAEFL. It will be a challenge to be able to achieve great results in the league as there are pretty complex elements involved such as qualities of players, positions of players, a variety of styles and tactics, etc. Despite that I won't be intimidated by all these and will rise to the challenge to achieve glory no matter how long it will take to do so. Last but not least, good luck to all managers for this season.
