DIVISION 3 GAMES

The very first official league match in division 3 ever, is the match between Smoking Guns and Adelaide Kickers. Iman , SG’s manager chose to play BC, while David preferred his AK to play WH, and since AK has a star player, M. Swansson on a very important position in this tactic, that tactics made the difference. Both teams played with similar NSL, 87.75 against 85.50, which was even just a little better for SG, but in the end, it was AK with the better EMP, and that is what counts! As a matter of fact, it rendered them 2 “general” chances, plus a penalty, and David better be happy with the penalty, as that was the chance that AK managed to score. 3 points for AK, and SG will have plenty of matches left to win their points.

Division 3 starts with an exciting match at Hakon Arena between Smoking Guns and the Adelaide Kickers. Iman picked a surprising BC tactic which is very rare for a new manager and a new team. It did work though because they achieved a nice emp of over the 100. I do wonder if this is there first tactic or if they are still experimenting. The variety of players he has looks promising for future tactics (and trading :). He should benefit from the recent changes Peter made in this tactic. David on the other hand played a WH tactic and honesty admits me to say it looked very good. His freak AM is fenomanal for this tactic and his other AM and two WH’s look up to the job! Only the current Striker position could be better filled in with a AM or CF. So with a total performance of over 103 emp the did a little better then SG. And that showed in the shots. AK had two regular shots on goal but GK Knots saved them both! So it was the penalty that decided the fate of Iman’s SG. David starts his SAEFL career with a promising team and a solid victory. Iman had a little bit of bad luck but mostly lost fair and square. It will be fun to see if they both played their top 11 or if they have any cards up their sleeves….

Christer Kallin is back in SAEFL, and Aros VSK is his new team. First opponent, this week, is Speedsters, Magnus’ team, and that made this a Scandinavian clash. A clash in which Aros’ CP tactics turned out to be more in balance than Speedsters, ONE tactics, which resulted in a more than 12 EMP difference in AV’s favour, and that turned out to be enough for a 16-9 victory. It looks like Speedsters has good ONE players, their only trouble could be that the defenders in their tactics are better than their midfielders, so that needs to get more balance. But if those AM’s are still young and rising, that will happen in due time, so nothing to worry about yet.

AV is the team of Christer Kallin who is an experienced SAEFL manager of old (well, not that old :). And, too be honest, it shows. This is a very solid performance of AV with the right players on the right positions for a nice CP tactic. With a total emp of almost 113 Christer show his candidacy for the title! Magnus did with SS in my opinion everything right. He played ONE with nice players on the right positions. his AS’s and CM even got a bonus because they played against a CP tactic. Still he didn’t reach the emp Christer had. He emped almost 15 emp lover while fielding only 2.5 nsl less. Some of this is due to his players stats but i also think Magnus will see his players perform alot better if he picks a better captain then Alesi! He’s most certainly not a real teamplayer… Good victory of AV!

Defrosted Tunafish, managed by Claudio De Marco, played their first match at home, against Clive Herberts Fantastic Eleven. Surprisingly, both managers appeared to have chosen for WP tactics, which usually promises an attractive match with a lot of goals. And that was exactly what happened. Part of the excitement was not like Claudio meant it, as he saw 2 players heading for an early shower, due to red cards. That made DT somewhat less strong, and weaker than FE, but since DT on the other hand had a better GK (NSL 10 against NSL 9), which is very important when playing attacking, in matches with a lot of chances, that turned out to make both teams just as strong in the end: 15-15. Looking everything that happened in this game, I guess you can call that a fair result.

Now this is what i call a spectecular match! 15 goals per team, bookings and two WP tactics face to face. Claudio, the DT manager has the most right to be upset in my opinion. Two red cards meant he lost loads of emp and he could have done better then the (still very respectable) 106 emp he has now. It is shown here that a freak CF in a WP team is worth gold! I can just see all those div1 and div2 managers drooling allready.. Be very very carefull there Claudio…. Clive will disagree with Claudio being the ulnlucky one. His FE showed great great form!! Without playing with exceptional CF’s he reach a stunning 117(!) emp while fielding 90 nsl on the pitch. This resulted in a lot of shots. More then DT had in any case.. So, DT was unlucky with two send-offs. FE was unlucky because they generated more shot then DT. Well, the draw was fair then i guess…. I do really really wonder what will happen if Clive gets his hands on a super CF!

Trav Spoodle, managed by Travis Armstrong (Finally, with all these new names of both managers and teams, here it is obvious rightaway that Trav is led by Trav! Thanks Trav!), began this season with a match against the Falcons, Nik Alberts team. Again, we could see 2 attacking teams, as TS played WP where FA played WH. The difference in NSL played by both managers was only 0.5, but on the pitch we could see that TS has better bonus players, as TS had like 7.50 EMP more, which resulted in 31 chances against 26, and since TS also had a better GK (although a NSL 9 can be dangerous when you’re playing WP), the victory was deserved: 21-11. O yeah: have a look at CF E. Vedder: he might be a very good candidate for player of the year in div 3!!!

Travis of TS will be looking as pleased as his logo when he sees this result. In a good match, again with a good 117 emp, his WP-team brought down the Falcons from Nik. There isn’t alot to bring in against this result. Nik’s Falcons performed very well and would have given a good fight against loads of teams we saw before this match but the smiley face was better. Well, now that i think of it. Nothing to complain about. Travis also played a GK 9 while Nik played a GK 8.75. Which means that according to chance Trav Spoodle would have saved more shots too, so in the end a fair result.

Both Brian from Fanatics United and Berto from Blue Storm FC are new managers, and in their very first match, we notice that their rosters look quite similar in a way. At least they do have a lot of players in the same positions, and in this case, that gives you the chance to play either CP or ZD. Brian chose for CP, while Berto chose ZD. However, the difference in choice of tactics was not what turned out to be decisive in this match, The 2 red cards for BS were. As a result of that, BS performed less than they are capable of, and gave away more chances than they should have, leading to a 4-1 victory for FU. Good start for FU, while BS will surely win more points in the matches that they can end with 11 players.

At first sight this seems an easy match for Brian. And, i have to admit his team does look well. For a new manager he has all the right players for the tactic he plays and this means his emp is vey high for the nsl he fields on the pitch. Nice performance and if rotation is possible a team to watch for the title i think. BS seems creamed but actually isn’t. There is soooo much room for improvement here. First off, two send-offs. Bad luck i guess. Second, they can pick a slightly better captain i think. Lastly, they can improve there team in one or two positions with players better suited for the ZD tactic. I’d really like to see them in a match when everything goes according to plan.

Now here’s a story that’s completely different from the previous match: Both Otto from Deo Volente and Wouter from Vitesse Arnhem are “old” managers. At least they have previous experience with this game. That is no guarantee for getting results of course, especially when playing each other, and only 1 team can win. In this case, there was no doubt about what team was best: just have a look at DV: with only 84 NSL on the pitch, they manage to get 121.31 EMP, which is more than some of the teams in Div 1 this week, and almost a 50 % bonus!!!! Both teams got a Freak player in their roster, and both Freaks appear to be in a bonus position, so that is good news for both teams, but in Otto’s case, he seems to have only good players in the bonus positions (look at them EMPing!), and that is what makes the difference. But wait a second. For all managers that have to get used to this new style: do you see that Deo Volente’s name is in green? Well guys, that means nothing less than DV playing a grudge! So everyone thinking that Otto has such a remarkably good team: wake up!!! Okay, okay, when you deduct 10%, it turns out that he still is near 111 EMP, which is still very good with only 84 NSL on the pitch. But it puts things into a better perspective. Both GK’s saved 19 shots, but since DV created 39 chances, against 29 for VA, DV wins the match 20-10. DV indeed looks like a candidate for the championship, and VA could be an outsider too, as they might get better results against other teams, less strong than DV, who actually could have saved that GC I guess.

The last match brings us a grudgecard! Former SAEFL manager Otto has unfinished business with former SAEFL manager Wouter it seems. Well, the grudge was well spent because it brought Otto the desired victory over his rival. That and his freak AS of course! Wouter freak S couldn’t change that.. Both teams look nice but not spectacular i guess. But i know these two managers are up to some work. Mymy, there are more freaks in Div3 then in div1 it seems. What’s that dripping sound i hear…?
