DIVISION 1 GAMES

IQ and OC are just hovering (and I mean just about in mid-air, nearly skimming the ground) above the relegation line. So, with both teams on 17 points, this was a key battle in deciding which, if any, of these teams manage to stay up. OC played a grudge, while rather surprisingly IQ held off. This really helped the Oakies. However, the home advantage helped even things up a tad, and when it came to the crunch, there was very little to separate two sides who EMPed very, very well. So little, in fact, that it all came down to goalkeeper performance, as 30 shots were generated a-piece. Two 10 NSL keepers in the form of Keller and Loser made it a tricky one to call. But unfortunately for OC, Loser was an apt name on the day, as home advantage told and Keller managed to pluck more shots out of the air. IQ move on to 20 points and are starting to look good to stay up. OC – well, let's see!

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

Having said that IQ are good bets to stay up, NW, who were below IQ and OC by 3 points before this week, have not given up all hope of staying up. Far from it. Mike put out a crack line up this week to really give the Warrens, who look as though they will be bouncing in Division 2 next season if form does not pick up, the willies. On the day, it was Noshaki's midfield that really stood out, and this enabled a performance gap that meant NW strolled to a 12-0 win. A. Manchester will not be happy with his performance, plucking only 5 shots to safety! Cech on the other hand didn't let in any of the 4 chances he faced. EW need to pick up points, and fast. NW have sides like OC in their sight, and this big win does their goal difference no harm at all.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

AA suffered a massive set back in their quest to become the only side to finish 2nd in SAEFL in 8 seasons of football J, when they went down last week to those pesky Booies. This week, the club faced another difficult challenge in the form of TH, who played outstandingly against CA last week, much to the delight of TB et al. However, this week, it looked like Mark had other matters on his mind (like future cup games and the World Cup?) as TH played a weakened like up which pretty much meant AA only had to turn up to win. Not that AA wanted to win by default. They boosted, and played one of their strongest sides of the season – and the new TS tactic looked like the AA of old (for reference, look at seasons 4,5,6 and 7 J). Woods looks to be a good capture and Hittingbricks was on fire, netting a hattrick. TH will come back stronger down the line. AA will be interested in what CA did against a tough opponent in LU.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

CA had a minor set back last week in their quest for the holy grail of the league championship, when they lost to TH. This week they faced another tough opponent in LU – a side that have struggled a little this season but on their day are a match for anyone. And boy were they a match for CA this week! Lisbon came roaring out of the traps with a superb ZD lineup that performed like championship winners. The CA players must have wondered what their opponents had taken, as they could not match up to Lisbon's quality. The sending off of a home team player on 32 mins didn't help, mind you. 137 EMP to 125 allowed LU 3 shots to the one of CA. Unforunately for the sides trying to chase CA down, GK I. Akinfejev was in good form for the home side, while Glaze fluffed the only shot that came his way. End score = 1-1. Great game, great result, and it leaves the championship wide open. CA are a point ahead of AA now, who are 4 ahead of TB. And remember, next week sees CA and TB face off, while JG (11 points behind but with a game in hand) still have to play TB in week 22, AA in week 23 and CA in week 24. Life could be about to get interesting.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

And The Jazz Greats used their game in hand to maximum benefit, seeing off a AP side that have had a good couple results of late and probably felt relaxed in terms of the red zone. Martin used the week to try out his WP tactics (what a rarity J), but rested his top line defenders in the process. Bart also played a slightly weakened side – but with Mbamba ripping it up big stylie against his former club, there was only going to be one winner of this contest. The burly 12.5 NSL, 6 foot 4 collosus scored 6 goals from 7 attempts in this WP WP encounter. Great stuff indeed. The result means that JG still have a sniff of the league and cup. Will this lead to the side resting up in key league games ahead, and against who? Such matters could truly swing affairs at the top of the table. AP will lick their wounds and come back with another interesting tactical choice very soon ;)

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

FI, like TB, have cup commitments to consider over the next few weeks. As the side are well placed in the league, they obviously had the upcoming knock-out fixture in mind when they played a slightly depleted team against a Booies side that look every inch title contenders at this minute in time. With nearly 100 NSL of prime CP on the field, Jer had his TB side pumped, and they tore into FI from the start, creating numerous chances, with Q. Donaldson, who for once managed to stay on the pitch J, and Craque really looked the part. The 9-4 victory for TB means they still have every chance of league glory. Interesting times indeed … (Now the question is how many times I can say this phrase over the next 2 divisions' reports)
