DIVISION 3 GAMES

Smoking Guns, the number last on the table, against Deo Volente, the number 4, who are on schedule for the playoffs, and even in the race for the 2nd position. You'd expect this match to be a formality: an easy win for DV, and that's that. But it wasn't. In div 3, some differences aren't as big as they might seem sometimes. Monty played a strong team, with even more NSL than Otto's DV. And on top of that, he played a boost. Well, that compensated a lot of what usually would be the difference between SG and DV. You see, Otto has built up DV from the very beginning, to a team that is perfectly in balance for his favorite tactics, and he has good EMPing players on the important positions. Monty, on the other hand, has inherited a SG team that was not balanced at all, and he has to be creative. Just look at today's match: LB is the tactics, and we see only 1 AS, and 2 Strikers. But Monty can't help it that he hasn't more strikers in his roster. Anyway, the boost, the home adavantage, and the NSL surplus that SG started the game with, almost compensated for that difference. Almost, I said. The chances created were 26 for SG, against 28 for DV. With a little luck, SG even could have won this one. But they weren't that lucky. True, you can't say anything about DV's victory, as it was of course deserved. This season is just not SG's season, but I have no doubt that Monty will turn things around at Umarec.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

Blue Storm FC against Fantastic Eleven is the number 9 against the number 3 on the table. That may look a little similar to the previous game, but in this case there are also differences. BS is 8 points from the nr. 6 position, and that means that they are 8 points away from the playoffs, with 6 matches to go. Tough job, no doubt about that, but at least they still have something to fight for, where SG hasn't. FE of course also has something to fight for, as they are the nr. 3, looking to climb 1 place to get direct promotion. Bryan played a strong team, and I don't know if Clive had to rest players, or maybe underestimated BS, but he played a team that wasn't nearly as strong as BS. The difference between them was bigger than you'd expect looking at the table, both in NSL, in EMP, and in chances created, and all in BS's favour. The 22-10 victory was a logical result, and with this win, BS may keep dreaming of the playoffs, while FE lose their 3rd position to DV.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

The match of the week in div 3, and maybe even in entire SAEFL, is without a doubt the top game between the numbers 1 and 2 on the table: Fanatics United and Defrosted Tunafish. FU play at home, and if they want to have any chance at keeping DT from winning the title, they had to win this game. For Claudio, of course, it was the other way around: if they would be able to beat Brians FU, they would for sure be the new champions, and even in case of a draw, they would keep the gap between them at 8 points with only 5 matches to play, and although there are still 15 points to win, everyone would know that that only works in theory. So, it was no surprise that both Brian and Claudio played a grudge, in order to win this match. That resulted in the 2 teams remaining almost equally strong, and that showed, in almost everything in the match. Looking at NSL, EMP and chances, things were very close, and both teams were performing so good, you'd think this was a div 1 game. DT was slightly better, and created 42 chances against 40, but FU had the better GK, and at the end, the results was undecided: 21-21. A fair result for a game in which neither team deserved to loose. On the other hand, this draw in a way meant a loss for FU, as in the direct confrontation, they weren't able to catch up with DT in the race for the title, and I'm afraid that race has been decided by now.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

The match between Falcons and Speedsters, is a match between the numbers 10 and 11 on the league table. For both Nik and Magnus, the season is over in terms of winning prizes, as the gap between them and the playoffs has become too big to overcome. However, if the prizes are out of reach, there is always honour to fight for. Since the difference between FA and SS was only 2 points (in FA's favour), SS could climb a position at FA's expense by winning this match. But FA of course did not want that. If there's anything that they wanted, it was prevent SS from overtaking them. And well, you can say they succeeded in that. In a match in which FA was much better (you wouldn't think the difference between them was "only" 2 points), FA showed that they didn't want to drop to 11th position, and they did it with style: the 16-5 win was a deserved one, and who knows what FA might be capable of next season.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

Adelaide Kickers is the number 8 in div 3, and although I guess the playoffs are 5 points away, they are still very much in the race for those playoffs, if David would manage to win this match, it would bring AK at only 2 points of VA and thus the top half. For Vitesse Arnhem, it's another story. They are at number 6 in div 3, and that would mean they are just as much in the race for the playoffs as AK, and cannot afford to lose. However, much like at the beginning of the season, Wouter is neglecting VA a little. Once again, he got NMR'ed this week, making the victory for AK a lot easier. So easy that of course they won their home game. AK are getting closer and closer when it comes to reaching those playoffs, while Wouter apparantly wants it to be exciting until the very end of the season. He has to be careful though, to send in orders in time on a regular basis, if he wants to be in that top half of the table.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 20

Trav Spoodle has been a top 3 team for so long, but in the second half of the season, their results weren't as good as in the first half, and they even dropped out of the top half of the table. This week, they had a good chance of getting back there. We already saw VA lose their game, and the home game against Aros VSK would be a double chance: a victory would not only mean that they would climb back to 6th position (a playoff spot!), but also reduce the gap with AV to only 1 point. Great opportunity to show your best you'd say, but Travis apparantly missed out on it, as TS got NMR'ed as well. On the other side, Christer DID recognize the importance of this match, and played grudge, as he knew that if he won this game, the gap with TS would increase to 7 points, and that would be hard to overcome. And since, like I mentioned before, we already saw VA lose their game, Christer could be one of the big winners this week, besides Claudio of course. Well, the victory for AV of course was very much deserved, and in fact, since TS played an NMR team, Christer could even have saved that grudge, but of course you don't gamble on these things. Well done Christer, this must be enouth to win a playoff spot. And for Travis, I hope he will be there next week again, sending in orders.
