DIVISION 1 GAMES

After defeat to IQ last week, AA really needed a win against JG to keep up any sort of fight for the title. Not that this was going to be easy against a JG side that have always done well against the Alcies. This was a defence against attack affair, with AA deciding against their WP option – instead going for what looks like a very strong TS suit. It was too much for the Greats, who perhaps have cup battles on their mind. So, AA are not out of the league race yet. Let's see what CA did.

They absolutely demonished EW, that's what! EW have had a tricky time all season, and I think the club rather thought they would be relegated a few weeks ago. Although this 14-1 defeat does not mathematically relegate the club, the likelyhood of turning over a massive negative goal difference when compared to their rivals is somewhat slim. EW will be back though – mark my words J CA just keep cruising along – can anyone stop their league title party?

OC are another club that are in deep do do at the bottom of the table, along with the likes of NW and LU. Unfortunately, one of the sides that you do not want to have to face up to when in such a precarious position is FI – with a manager that would sell his own mother for a win J. CP is a often used tactic, but it does have it's limitations, and with a number of managers now moving back to defensive systems, these limitations are apparent. FI certainly highlighted them to net the narrowest of wins that keeps them on track for a top 6 finish. OC will need to scrap for every point from now on.

The results this week seem to have gone relatively well for AP. And it's just as well. For the game against TH was always going to be a really tough one. And so it proved. Despite using a grudge, and playing over 100 NSL of talent, the Apocs just couldn't defeat a TH side that will be one to watch next season, together with the likes of JG, TB and AA (and DL?). Not that AP really deserved to lose. In fact, they had slightly the better of the play on the field – but sadly, their keeper came off the worst against Chocolate. Had Martin played a stronger Number 1, the result could have been oh so different.

This was a really important battle at the bottom of the division. Both sides are not out of the relegation mire, with LU needing a win to move above NW in the table. To be honest, I cannot for the life of me understand why Lisbon are in the relegation zone. United have a quality side, and so it proved in the 90 minutes here – a grudge and the use of a clever CP tearing apart NW from it's seams to net those much needed points. But at what cost with three injuries? Whatever the case, it's GAME ON in the battle for survival.

TB have had a fantastic run over the last few weeks, defeating the likes of CA and AA. Mind you, IQ have not been too shabby, also defeating AA and putting down a marker to the rest of the league to not count the Quartiles out of a title battle for next season. It's odd to think that until recently, IQ were in a relegation battle. Now they are flying, and boy did they turn the tables on TB with a 1-0 win that will send shock-waves through the division, delight AA and in particular CA, and leaves the Booies title dream in shreds. Actually, TB can count themselves unlucky as they had the better of the match – but defensive systems can come back to bite you in the butt, and the system was what did for Jeroen this week!
