Excelsior Warren

From the Excelsior Herald...

A sombre mood has descended over Monument Park. Excelsior are down. Mathematical possibilities offer slim hope to the faithful who can sense that their boys are beat. Bracegirdle skulks around the training ground with the look of a dog waiting to be kicked. Where did it all go wrong. Well how much time have you got? The much vaunted youth academy has failed to produce for two seasons in a row; the manager's forays into the transfer market have been too few and too unspectacular; the manager's tactics have been jaded and too often wrong; the ageing squad has aged badly. Now is the time to plan for the future and the faithful must seriously consider whether that future involves the current manager. For all his bluster and for all that the club has enjoyed time in the top flight, the trophy cabinet still contains diddly squat and that simply is not good enough.

F.C Inferno

The dream of reaching again the cup final is over. However, the dream was brave and fought till the end. Just like we will do in the league. A top 4 finish would be a dream...

InterQuartile Rangers

Last week's league game was interesting.  By all rights it should have been a tie.  Still we have to credit backup Keeper Ferreira for stopping both shots.  That kept us in the game.  Hamm did a great job placing the penalty against a much superior keeper.  So once again, the Rangers shoot 100%!  Curiously, there was a break in the card 'storm' that has been hitting SAEFL.  There were only 4 yellows and 1 red in the league gaes.

It's also nice to have enough depth to play more than one tactic/style.  That was our lot in life through the first half of this season.  I think that's part of the reason for the better performance since the aging.  We can be more unpredictable.

The cup game was a pleasant surprise.  I tried BC since it is useful against CP.  Although I still don't have enough strong players in necessary positions.  TH not having a grudge was extremely helpful.  It would have given him enough of an advantage, especially since Keller didn't seem to be having a particularly good day.  I was also lucky to avoid the card demon.  There were 3 yellows and 1 red in only 2 games!  Maybe SAEFL is using some of the misplaced World Cup refs?  Our shooting wasn't bad with 4 players shooting over 50%.  MarriageMarchSeven taking advantage of what may be his last appearance in SAEFL shot 66%, contributing 2 goals.  He has announced his retirement and we are going to miss him.  He was instrumental in helping the team through a bleak couple of years when I first took over the team.

The Boelewieten

Boelewieten In Sight
A major blow last week, superb ZD play and failing to score, losing three very important points and also losing the battle for the first and even second place.
CA and AA are continuing their battle, TB will be forced to look already to next season, and how be my youngsters from the transfer list doing, is my financial status not alarming and last but not least; why the hell did we not play CP in the game against InterQuartile Rangers? Normally the manager makes a table with the styles and tactics played by the teams during the season. We did not do that in this season, lack of time, laziness and the expectation that TB would not finish in the top of the table are some reasons to explain this.

So I looked back, not far, just the last game of IQ, they played a strong BC against AA. So the laziness won from the ratio, I did not look further back seeing the power play that IQ’s ONE is capable of. And that ONE was also supported by TB’s ZD, a terrible loss for us, a great victory for manager Rooker, who managed IQ almost in the SAEFL cup final AND is midtable in the league. Congrats to you Terry, a fine job you already did this year!

With two weeks to come and the strong and healthy impression CA made in its last weeks game, I expect that this team will take season 11. And admit, they have faced some serious attacks on their leader position, several grudges and boosts. I will not go in detail what this means for RL, but you can imagine that manager Kroon must have felt loneliness and has spent some quality hours without friends in the pub. So the biggest respect to this manager.

Nr 2 on the table is AA, I really hope they still loose some points this season, but reality is they have a manager with enough skill to bring those points home. AA will be a big favorite for season 12, a young and promising team, a great DS a leader, man, still sick I ever traded that DS! They are a multiple tactics team, capable of adapting to stronger opponents, and I am afraid that adapting is not necessary next season, they will dictate!

This week’s game we play against NW. This team still pays big for their battle last season; they traded away youngsters for a shot at the title and came up empty handed. Second reason is the lack of time that the current manager has and turn things around. Third reason is, but this is only a suspicion, EW wants to play in division 2 and work their way back up again. The CA trail as y can call it, and when carried out in a good way, well, look at CA!

For TB this is the week we present two of our four new players, all bought from the transfer list this year. CF B. ArtsWish, nsl 8, 24 y old, (and when this guy ages bad I going to kill at least one commish!) and CM H. Goodbey, nsl 8, 20 y old, from which we expect he has some great captain skills, yes, already at his age.

Since the switch from WP to ZD/CP we were not capable to find top attacking players. We had one transfer, S Blank, nsl 10 from AR, but traded him because he had a temper problem (but temper with great stats). Since that time I bought to strikers, both nsl 9, and both falling in nsl. With CF B. ArtsWish we have a older CF,  coming from the transfer list and assuming he is stilling growing in his skills, so an expectation of attacking benefit for at least 2 seasons! CM H. Goodbey is a promising CM looking at the nsl/age ratio. We play now CP with mostly DM in the line-up. Whit this CM we strengthen our midfield, and I hope that with one or two CM’s from the youth draft and from the trading market we will be capable of playing even a strong CP and BC.

DIVISION 2

Adirondak Renegades

Adirondak Press (AP): Another step closer to the playoffs!

Manager Fulmer (MF): Yes, indeed. It was a somewhat fortunate step, as we defeated a SH side that played very well, probably should have won.

AP: Take the positive result while you can because there are certainly times when the soccer gods are against you. Is AR ready for the playoffs?

MF: We have to get there first, and while I think we will, it is not a sure thing. We have an away match against AS this week. Even though they will be delegated, I'm sure they will give us a tough match. They did last time and I don't think this will be any different.

MF: Before we move on, I want to mention the performance of  22 yo AM S Mann. She made her first appearance of the season and scored 6 GOALS.! She is one of the players that gives us good depth, and good youth. That is why I am excited about next season.

AP: So your roster is pretty much set for next season?

MF: Welll..... We have the talent and depth, particularly at AM and WH , to play a strong attacking ONE tactic. However, I am not satisfied with the development of an alternate tactic. It is something I will focus on in the offseason.

AP: I assume this involved trading?

MF: Of course :)

AP Can you give us a sneak preview?

MF I'd be glad to. The e-mail to the league has already been written. It will just need updating after aging, then it will be sent.

AP: Actually, my "sources" have furnished me with what I believe is a copy. Does it look something like this?

AR are looking to make a change in their alternate tactics, or maybe you could say develop an alternate tactic. We are looking for

CM or AS, 9+ and rising for current use, or promising youth players.

The preferred positions for youth are FB, AS, CM, MF, DM. I will consider DS, CB, AM, WH, S/CF.

The following AR players are available. All except Neethling rose the last aging:

WH W Hell 24 9.75

DM C Albers 25 9.5

DS D OFire 21 7.0

DS R Neethling 29 9.5

CB E Atget 23 6.5

CB F Assassino 23 7.75

CB K Hickey 25 8.75

CB C Smith 27 8.75

CB C Miles 25 8.75

CB M Dawson 25 9.0

FB T Barker 25 8.5

S D Idaho 19 6.0

S R Tilley 20 7.0

S D Astokachi 22 7.75

CF D Draconis 23 6.25

Well we are still in third place, which is really good after our disappointing start to the season.  We got a big win last week but we did not move up any spots in the standings though we did move slightly closer to EU who are now one point ahead of us.  GU won their game too and are still tied with us for third place but we are in front of them because of our goal differential.  This is all good for us IF we manage to win this week.

And this week we play DL, easily the best team in Division 2 so we have a slim chance of winning (just being realistic).  The good thing is that GU and EU play each other this week too, which should be a pretty good game.  Now, the outcame (regardless of what it is) should be good for us if we can manage to pull off a win, or maybe even a tie.  We do not have any grudge cards left so that can't help us but neither does DL so at least we will not be completely annihilated. Because their WP is so much stronger than ours, we probably would not win even if we played our top eleven with WP, which we can't because many of them have low stamina.  So we are venturing out of our WP box and playing OFF because DL is more than likely going to play WP like they think we are.  We are still going to try and win by playing some offense but mostly we just beefed up our defense.  Either way, we will just hope for the best.

Stannington Historical

I agree with the comments made in the match report about our recent match vs. AR. "SH hasn't had any luck this season at all, which is true." However, we at SH, aren't sitting around crying in our spilt milk. Full credit must go to AR and their 'keeper'  for the win over us.

This was a match where the action didn't stop until the final whistle.

It was what the SAEFL is all about. Crackin' goals, excellent saves by the 'keepers at both ends, no diving(unlike certain WC teams like .....?

right Portugal) and a ref who basically kept his whistle in his pocket!

SH Manager Lear said," With two matches left, we still aren't going to back off. We gave it our best shot versus AR and came up a little short. That was perhaps due to our lack of experience in the Kiddies'

Corp. But it bodes well for the future of SH. When we can put a young lineup on the pitch and give older opposing teams a bloody good go , it shows what is going down at SH over the next season or two. Sure, we are in D-3 next season but we fully expect to be right back up after that.

In this week's match vs. DS, SH's lineup features 1 26 yo., 1 25 yo., and everyone else is under the age of 24 with our attack force's average age being around 22. We are happy with this. SH wants to be known as the "spoilers" in our last two matches."

In other news from the SH camp is that the club has released the following players: GK S. Haffner(conduct unbecoming of the club- on and off the pitch), and fan favourite S J. VanOldebarnevelt (due to declining skill level and just didn't fit into SH's plans for the future.) Comments to Commish I am rather happy with what is in my roster. One more good aging and we should have a close to D-1 type roster.

Adelaide Kickers

Still A Glimmer Of Hope?

The Kickers still have a glimmer of hope in making the playoffs.  However luck is needed as the teams above need to lose the last two games and the Kickers have to win both.  5 points is not impossible with two games remaining but is very improbable.

SB:  David, you returned to managing last week and the team won.  What does that tell you?

DT:  It tells me I should concentrate on the team during the season and spend time with you in the off season.

SB:  So I'm to blame for you not managing.

DT:  Yes.

SB:  How can I be the problem.

DT:  It was YOUR car that ran out of fuel on the way back from our little trip on the morning of the game.  Then we had to wait for 2 hours for someone to bring us some fuel to put in the car.

SB:  Fair enough.  Moving on.  The question on the all the fans lips is this.  Will the Kickers make the playoffs?

DT:  With being 5 points behind with 2 games remaining, we are going to need lots of luck.  I'm pretty confident in winning next week against SG but we need to beat AV this week and hope to get help with 2 other teams losing to make it easier.  We are going to give it our best shot but honestly I don't think we will make it.  We left our run too late.

SB:  If you were managing 2 weeks ago, would the team have won instead of losing?

DT:  I'm sure we would have done well and won.  It would only leave us 2 points behind whichi is a far easier proposition.

SB:  How do you think the team has performed overall this season?

DT:  I will do an end of season report next week.

SB:  Thanks for your time David.

DT: No problems.

Congratulations on winning the First ever Division 3 League :)

DT : Thanks very much! Was a very close game last week with a 1 single goal seperating us…

Press : SO winning the league, u now progress to DIV 2, how do you feel u will do there?

DT : only time will tell, especially with the ageing coming up going into Div2 - it will definetly be an experience going against some of saefls best and also having FU there and another team :) so at least there will be some Div 3 feel to it for us

Press : FU's comments for u were to watch ur ass, any comments on that?

DT : well, not really a drop the soap in the shower kind of guy… so, cant really comment on that :)

DT : what I can and will comment on is FORZA AZZURI!!!! WORLD CHAMPS!! 4 stars :) YEHA!!!!

I'm going to test a tactic change this week as we don't think we can beat FU who are 20+ points above us on the log.

Second last game of the season, and I have nothing to say. I was the big mouth in the beginning of the season... lol. I feel that my goals for this season have been achieved perfectly and I think maybe I beat TS a bit to hard. Don't think Travis likes losing, but Travis I did tell you that this game is more on the maths side of things that your knowledge of soccer or you ability to play the game.

P.S. FU this is not the same b team from last week, so I hope you bring it.
