CUP GAMES : Simi Finals LEG 2

JG were 6 to the good from the first leg, and could have pretty easily rested up and kept their grudge dry for another day – but Bart being Bart, he decided to take no risks and play a top line-up with the extra 10% to make sure. And it did the trick. FI also grudged, and this led to an ill-tempered affair, with three sending offs and a very open contest. Overall, JG had the better of the match but the away goalie did a good job, keeping down the advantage to three goals. JG advance to the final

In their first match of the semi final, Jazz Greats already beat FC Inferno at the Fire Stadium. Now, with the return at home, I have to admit that I expected Bart to play his strongest team and a grudge, and play SM. Of course, we all knew that Marco’s only chance to win and make it to the final, was play attacking, as he had to overcome a 6 goal difference. And because we all also know that FI plays a very strong ONE tactics, it would not have been a bad idea, in fact it would be a good idea, to play SM with a strong team, reduce the number of changes, and make it to the second round. However, either Bart thought that the risk was still too big to play SM, or he did not want to make any concessions and just rely on what he’s good at: playing Wingplay, because that is what he did. We hope the latter, because that would be more heroic, in a choice between believing in your own strength, and fear the gamble. However, we’re talking Bart, so it will probably be the first. Anyway, the result will be the same, and that is that it worked! Barts WP was too strong for Marco’s ONE. Both teams suffered from red cards, FI even saw 2, and that made the difference in EMP even 15! You won’s see that big a difference reflected in the score: 18-15. But Bart won’t care about that, as he made it to the final with JG. Marco will be sad to see he didn’t make it to the final, and won’t be able to defend his title. But I guess that after the first match, with the 6 goal difference, he already taken into account that this could happen. Nonetheless, FI have proven to be a true cupfighter, because in spite of this loss, it’s a great performance to be in the semifinals again.

SAEFL SEASON 11 WEEK 24

IQ have been playing quite brilliantly in the cup yet again, and on this occasion they played out of their skins again, somehow holding off a TH side that were 2 goals down after the first leg, but had home advantage and really wanted another cup final to add to their silverware. TH grudged to bring this about, but IQ played a clever BC, which as we all know works well against CP. This overturned both home advantage and the 10% boost, and despite Chocolate having a good day at the office, the Heats could only win 11-10, to see Quartile through by two goals overall.

Tottenford Heats against InterQuartile Rangers promised to be even more exciting than the JG-FI game. In the first semi-final, IQ managed to beat TH 13-11, but that was only 2 goals difference, and since TH played at home in this return, everything was still possible. Especially when you consider that TH was the better team in the first match, and that IQ thanks their victory to the great performance of their GK, who was only 0.25 NSL better than the TH GK. This week, the story was exactly the other way around. Terry played another grudge, but Mark apparantly was out of grudges, and played a boost. The difference between th m was little, but this week it was in IQ’s favour. They had more EMP, and created more chances. When you add that to the fact that IQ’s GK was NSL 10 and TH’s GK was NSL 9, you’d think that it would be an easy win for IQ. No way: TH’s GK had one of his best days, and saved shot after shot, leading to a victory for TH! However, this victory was 11-10, where IQ’s victory in the first semi final was 13-11, so with 1 goal difference (23-22), IQ made it to the cup final!! Well done Terry, you truely show that your reputation as a cup fighter is a solid reputation. Mark will be grumpy I guess, as he was soooo close to going for another prize. But you can’t say that IQ didn’t deserve it, as they were just better after these 2 matches. TH had 2 bottlenecks this cupseason: 1) A NSL 9 GK. You can’t keep winning with such a goalie 2) Mark already met some good teams in the cup, and had only 1 grudge left. But hey, that’s cup football!
