PRESS REPORT
DIVISION 1
Alcohol Anonymous
Many AA fans have been worried about the future of the club following a number of high profile departures over the last few weeks. Well, worry no longer – because the future of AA looks fine if last week’s cup game is any indication of the sheer strength of the club.
Playing 10 individuals that will not play in this weeks game against IQ (it would have been 11 if it were not for the sale of the clubs star keeper in week 2), an 86 NSL side emped an impressive 119 NSL as Blue Storm were overcome by 3 goals to 1.
With an average age of just over 23 (including a 29 and a 27 year old), players like Harkonnen, Wild Romance, Mirza and As really came to the party, and if they develop as the Alcies expect – then wow – fireworks could be possible next season.
At the back, Fontaine was a rock, while he also roamed forwards on numerous occasions, spraying passes and drifting past players.
And what’s that – not even a booking? Good god – have AA gone soft?!
All in all, a great day. And if clubs think that that’s all AA have to offer – think again. With a 22 8.5 GK, a 22 10 DS, a 7.5 20 CB, a 7.5 20 FB, a 9 22 FB, a 7 19 CM, a 8.75 21 MF, a 8.75 21 CM, a 7.75 22 MF, and several other talented 18-22 year olds, things look stronger than the club’s supporters could have imagined not long ago.
THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK – A QUICK ASSESSMENT OF DIVISION 3 TEAMS
Smoking Guns:
Look like they have a little work to do to find their best captain and perhaps the side was not tactically A1 in week 1. But the side has plenty of potential – especially in CM Nell and Levi up front.
Already look like a very strong first 11. With a little tweaking through transfers, the side could be real promotion contenders. Swanson is an obvious star, but both WHs and the other AM can play, and the defence might have upside. Could do with a potent front man.
Aros VSK:
No great stars – but usually one bad piece in a jigsaw can wreck a puzzle – and Aros have no ill-fitting bits. All the first 11 have over 8 NSL, and the CP tactic looks well-rehearsed. ZD might work well to boot. The subs are decent, and I expect at least a play-off place.
Speedsters:
Not the best performance last week – although Aros’s tactics worked against the side. One thing the side has got going for it is an excellent keeper, which really helps in terms of keeping the opposition at bay.
Defrosted Tunafish:
Wow. This side has great, great potential. Without the two sendings off, a win was a given for DT. Rhaj is a obvious superstar, but Ojimbo, if he is on the upside, could be a great co-partner for the 12 freak. The defence needs work, but if the manager can keep the essential nature of the attack, while strengthening the backline and not allowing other clubs to pick their tactic, I believe promotion will be theirs.
Fantastic 11:
Very solid indeed. A decent frontline and a very nice defence. Add the fact that the manager has just signed a top keeper (from AA J) and grabbed a new winger (from AA J J) , and the attack and defence look stronger again, and the elements are beginning to come together well.
Trav Spoodle:
TS had a nice EMP for their NSL on the pitch – so they have a good captain in place and a decent stats side. Nothing that blows you away – although Vedder shows like he is a player that can strike fear into opponents. The club need a better GK though, otherwise they will ship too many goals against the better opponents.
Falcons:
Week 1 saw that Falcons didn’t quite get their captain right. But never
mind. Again, no one that blows you away
but a solid looking side that could mid-table.
Fanatics Utd:
Another side that emps well for NSL. Nice GK, and if its midfield ages well, a superb BC could be played in time. Clubs will struggle to work against FU’s tactics, and this will give the side a real chance of promotion.
Blue Storm:
Another couple sendings off didn’t help BS much. Looking at the side, a BC would work very well; perhaps even better than a ZD, which can also be risky against the attacking sides in Division 3. Farinia looks nice, as does Guererro. BS and FU look well matched, actually.
Deo Volente:
Bang bang! 84 NSL – 121 EMP. Cracking stuff. The AS’s tell the story. Quality all around. I’m very confuse why DV has decided to sell some of these superb players – and I believe the club will be the weaker for it in the short, and possibly even the long-run. On the basis of this side, they would be my favourite for the league. Probably not now after the trade that has been well-discussed already.
Vitesse Arnhem:
Several freak forwards around the league, and VA have one. Didn’t really help the side with the emp though. I know what I’d be tempted to do if I were the manager of this side; but I can’t say a thing J Generally a very decent side though – lowest player at 8.25 NSL – and plenty of higher division sides have players of that NSL around (like A – about ¾ of the squad!)
COMING NEXT WEEK – AA’s
COMPLETE GUIDE TO MAKING THE MOST OUT OF SAEFL
Apocalypse
Catbel Athletic
Excelsior
From the Excelsior Herald...
No
report from the Herald's sports reporter last week as he took off for FC
Inferno a week early and was womndering lost aroudn an empty stadium when he should have been filing his
story. You just cannot getr the staff these days.
Far
from the doom and gloom of the pre-season predictions Excelsior have started
well with two wins under their belts. But in each game the opposition have had
a man sent off, so a prudent betting man might wait to see how they fare
against eleven men before putting money on them to avoid relegation.
Transfer
news saw striker S. Blank brought in, in exchange for AS Q.
Donaldson. Blank will buoy up a forward line which had the all too
familiar look of the dwindling skills of the experienced and the sad physical
specimens which pass as the youth of today. Whilst the forward line may now
have some punch, Donaldson was a dominant player whose presence will be missed
at the back. Can he be replaced?
F.C Inferno
FI
supporters saw a nice starting game last week for AS Wilson and CM Stoichkov, both recently acquired. In the other hand,
another new face, FB Fall, started his FI life with a red card, in a rather
disappointing presentation. Hope this one will recover from the bad start!
Now,
it's back to the league, facing a very dangerous EW side who
killed the TH giant on the first week. We expect a very open game, probably CP vs ONE.
If
Ryan repeats his good games, we can win!
InterQuartile Rangers
Maybe
I will relegate. (Peter You had the second best EMP this week so I don’t think its likely
well unless your lucky don’t change J) I know it's early, but some things never
change. I keep having this silly notion
that the more skilled team, i.e. the on with higher EMP should win more often
than naught. So I guess the bad luch has followed me to Div 1.
In
the first league game there were some surprises.
As
anyone ever one won the cup while relegating in the same season? Unfortunately, that's not a joke. (Peter
: no one ever , but the Cup got CA relegated)
Looking
at the stats, IQ is fifth in EMP/NSL ratio so it's not that I'm doing something
stupid. But, is it enough?

An
unfair defeat against AK for the cup!!! It seams the SAEFL "GK
problem" will continue just as last season.
LU
hope that the SAEFL board review some games to see from week 1 and cup week to
see what`s wrong!!!
This
week we face AP it will be a hard game, and LU have some dificulties
to build up a team that can win games.
A hard season ahead of us. we expect
a red card this week.
NoShaKi WC98
The Boelewieten
The Boelewieten In Sight
With three leagues its has been a rough week in SAEFL. The cupweek was altered I a normal week so we missed a edition of TB IS, and a pack of money. This week also a strange feeling at TB, Freak Damaseb decided to go for the big bugs, and leaving the team for another Dutch manager in the League, respected manager I. Kroon.
Why this move? We had some odd trading this season and find ourselves low on FB’s, three nsl 10 players but
also a big gap between that and the next generation. With the coming of FB Mexes we have secured, we hope,
that our defense is still strong for a few seasons. The loss of Damaseb is less painful because also AS A. Gamberini sighned up this week.
So we have a 24 yo FB and a 25 yo
AS in return, and off course 300 K which give us the chance to buy another left
or right foot of the tradinglist.
Speaking of the tradinglist, this week wingers on the list, we see that the
sponsers of the SAEFL league promotes the WP and WH
play. Next week CB or DS on the list and again the WP teams will benefit from
that. Where are the good old days that we saw a decent CM or DM on the list, or
a strong striker. I hope mr Babcock will recognize this call and acts properly
to it.
Also this week some
big discussion about a climbing freak of 28 yo trade
for a crappy GK and a Winger. I am glad so many managers were upset about this,
this means SAEFL is vivid and managers are willing to see blood on the table.
Season 11 will be a memorable one wit divison 1
fighting for the honeur, div 2 for promotion and
relegation and division three with those really motivated fresh newbe managers.
The Jazz Greats
Well,
let's just say i hope TB plays OFF..
Otherwise
it's zero points out of two matches.

Adirondak Renegades
"Adirondak Renegades are out of the trading market" was
manager Fulmer's announcement at this week's press conference. The announcement
was met with great skepticism by friends and
colleagues, since Fulmer loves to trade. As it turns out, they were skeptical with good reason. After the announcement, AR made
2 trades, with 4 players leaving and 5 players coming into the team. When asked
about making the trades after the pronouncement, Manager Fulmer responded
"I still stand behind the statement that AR are out
of the trade market. Except that that starts today, not last week."
African Selection
Well we had
an unfortunate loss in the Cup last week, so we try to get back on track in the
leauge.
We have
made a trade with All-Star FB Kampala moving up to the first division with Jazz
Greats and the Selects have picked up a quality CM in Brand and a good young
striker in Liedson.
We are
still looking to unload some good young CFs. Please
contact management for answers to any questions you have.

Melchester Rovers
Well
this week we get to play a relagated team for the
second week in a row but hopefully, we will get a win in this one. Not that last week was bad, because a tie is
better than a loss but then again, a win is always better than a tie. A score of zero- zero is a tad unusual for
our team (Actually, I think this was the first tie of my whole SAEFL career.)
but it was obvious that AS knew we were playing WP (big surprise) and they
played the best tactic to go against it.
But that is actually a downside of WP, I have
one team, one lineup, and not much variation to go against it. So it is good
because our team is really good when we play it but then it is bad because if
the opponent has the team to counter mine, we don't get that great of a result
and we also aren't a surprise to any
team- they know what we are playing and the best lineup we
have possible if everyone is rested.
As
for the cup, we lost but who cares. We
are focusing on the league and do not have that great of a rotation yet so my
starting players need all of the rest they can get. My backup players actually did a good job, they almost got the win anyway, which is pretty
impressive.
This
week we get to play SH, who did lose last week, but then again, they had two
yellow cards so who knows what they can do against us. Obviously, we will hope for the best and the
three points because we need to get a win to show we are as good as last year
and have a chance for promotion. I mean,
yeah, we are undefeated right now, but so are 7 other teams.
Stannington Historical
SH
Manager Lear really didn't have much to say after their opening defeat."We are not expecting much from our Kiddie Corp so we didn't get a lot from them in our opening
match. The lads managed to score some goals and that is about it. This match
showed the weaknesses in our lineup and this is something we will strive to
work on during the first half of the season.
Then I
hope that we will get a favourable aging at the
halfway mark of this season."
SH is remaining true to their word. We have
turned down several trade offers from the vultures and sharks in the SAEFL who
want to try and steal our prized younger players from us. It is like I said in
last week's press, SH is making few trades this season because we prefer to
develop our own players. Also we are going to be very particular as to who we
deal with.
SH has the
following two players up for deal however. CM B. Barrel
26 yo - 10.00 & S J. VanOldebarnevelt
26 yo. - 8.00. I am looking for young CB's, S's, AS's, or
W's.
The Jazz
TJ played
VA from div 3 in the group stages of the cup and opened with a 3-0 win at the
SAEFL stadium with a crowd of just under 24,000 turned up. TJ face ES at the Toon
City Stadium hoping for a big crowd for they first home game of the season. ES
will provide a
strong team to beat as they was beating in the play off final last season. ES
had a good win in the cup against follow Div 2 team DL. Back up keeper M Mouse will be
playing his first game this year and will be hoping to have a good game, AS R
Kirk will be returning
to the side after resting from the cup game to captain the side.
TJ will be hoping to keep up they
100% record with a win over
ES, who will be hoping for at least another play spot this
season. TJ will be hope to avoid the bottom three this seasons and trying to
make the play offs for the 2nd time in three seasons.
DIVISION 3
What a
week!!!
Firstly the
cup result against LU,
Winning 9-4 was a good result against a Division 1 team is good
enough but the fact they were slightly outplayed and had more shots against
them shows great resolve. The man of the
hour, GK Reine Visthala had
this to say, "Somedays your on and other days
your not. I guess today I was on."
Secondly a
couple of trades have taken place.
Leaving
"Nathan
approached me with a selection of players he was willing to part with and what
he needed in return." David
started, "Thomas looked too good to pass up and I knew that to get him I
would have to Trade Luigi away. I wish
him the best of luck and I am sure he will do well."
Now onto
this week,
"I
have tried to model myself on some of the world's greats including countryman
Magnus Erlingmark but to be described as being the
next Steven Gerrard, I try not to think about
that. I just go out and play my own game
and if people want to say that about me, then they are welcome to it,"
Mats replied when asked what he though of the comparison.
Aros VSK
Aros VSK started their cup-campaign with a 0-0 draw against TB. A good result that put us in a good position for the future of the
cup.
In
the league AV started off with a win and after signing 5 new players in week 2
AV have strenghten the depth of the squad. This
allows us to rotate the roster better without losing to much NSL when resting
the top-11.

This
week DV turned the SAEFL world around as word got out that star player Adorso-II along with two other high valued players,
including the fan’s favourite CM Calixtus-III had
enough of playing in the always rainy Holland and decided to move somewhere
warmer.
People
wonder how long Otto will last as the manager of DV, and most have a very
outspoken wish to see him leave soon rather then later.
On
the DV website forum:
‘’The
man’s insane, just 1 week ago DV was a serious title
contender. And was does our manager do?? He trades away our 3 best young
players. And for What??
He
clearly has a big problem to value his better players
With
one or two smart trades we could have won this race easily. Now we’re going to
have to start from scratch. I say we start with a new manager as well while
we’re at it!!
The
general feeling is probably best described by this new logo, made by a
dedicated fan
We
thought we had hired an experienced manager…, were we ever deceived
We
should have hired Wouter when we had the chance. It’s
true, he does have a problem being strict with his
boys.
But
with Wouter behind the wheel, at least we would still
have our Star players, and better, still dream about winning this division.
Even if it’s just in theory…
Things
couldn’t possible get any worse for DV
Even
now Otto still doesn’t rule out the possibility of more high NSL players
leaving DV.
‘’This
whole thing is just a big misunderstanding’’ according the manager. “DV had no
problem, and will not have a problem, as long as I am in charge
Last
week Brian of FU came over to our In Ri and he stated
his urgent need for 2 or 3 experienced missionaries in his home country
That’s
a thing we’re unmatched at, so we quickly decided that we would sent P. Adorso-II, P. Paulus-II and as a
bonus CM Calixtus-III
I
just want to state that Calixtus’ little problem with
VA winger Amoah has nothing to do with his sudden
transfer to
Adorso-II couldn’t handle the Dutch women and wanted to return to
SA anyway
In
return we promised to take some of Brian’s more troublesome youth in, and raise
them properly.
Even
Peter was so thrilled with the arrival of the missionaries in his home country, that he insisted on Brian adding a little extra
cash for my trouble.
It’s
true that with letting these players go we don’t have a chance of a top three
position this year, but for me only the first spot counts.
DV
is still in the middle of rebuilding, but next year that first spot will be
ours.
Perhaps
we even have a chance to survive in the Cup an extra round.
TH’s manager was stunned, as we’re we to be honest. We were no
match for TH what so ever and were shown what soccer is all about, with the
exception of our goalie Marcellus-I
He’s
stated as an NSL 10 GK, and he is really hard to pass, but that has nothing to
do with skill. The guys is just massive. When he’s in
the goal there is not that much room left. We keep him on a special diet to
keep his skill up.
He
even had never played soccer when we contracted him in the states. Marcellus-I
joined just 4 weeks before the start of the season and he barely made it over
to
Falcons
The Falcons hope to turn things around this week but
know they are up against an experienced manager who has seemed to work wonders
with his team.
Fanatics United
I think
that nobody actual read the press from last week so below is a repeat of the
information on B. Squig and a little more on his
sister.
B. Squig: first some background on the squigs,
they are round, short (+- 1 metre) creatures with sharp teeth, their teeth take
up about a quarter of their body. With two strong stubby legs he can jump about
5 times his height, squigs normally come in a range
of colours and B. Squig is blue. Their temper is
nothing to be played with and no-body gets on the wrong side of him or his
sister (S. Squig).
S. Squig: she is magenta in skin colour (color
for the American), and is quite beautiful as beautiful as 54 sets of shark like
sharp teeth go. She has a bad temper and you only have to worry about her if
she is chewing on your leg. Squigs as they are
bouncing everywhere are much underestimated but that is of course a bad idea.
I have made
some changes to the side, and already made some mistakes. We will see after
today’s match if the changes are effective and the mistakes are not repeated.
