DIVISION 2 GAMES

Well well, the up and coming AR plays the slowly declining MR. At forehand i’d say this would be Don’s match. But Bruce had other thoughts. He played boost for this match and fielded a very decent team. This resulted in a slightly flattered but for MR very good narrow victory over AR. Don had the better emp but, as we see often, more importantly, MR had the better keeper. Very good goalkeeping by S. Given got MR the vicory. After there cup victory last week Bruce will now be extatic! AR is without a league point and will need to shape up to ge tinto playoff position.

Adirondak Renegades is getting better and better after every aging, and after they were very close last season, this season it looks they are a certain candidate for the playoffs. Melchester Rovers on the other hand had a bad season last year, and even though things can only go better, you would still tip them to be in the second half of the table this season, as they need a lot of rebuilding, which might be too much for just 1 season. However, when Bruce appears to think different about it, which is not just his right, but is also very good for the league, things might turn out different. Bruce played a boost, and that suddenly gave him 2 freaks. On the other side, we saw AR not playing their best (was Don underestimating his opponent). That combination was too much for AR in their first home game of the season. Although MR had more NSL on the pitch, AR was still the better EMPing team, but the difference was made by AR playing with a NSL 9 GK, and MR with a NSL 9.50 GK. Out of 19 chances, AR scored 6, against 7 out of 12 for MR. Another defeat for AR, although I don’t think Don will be worried yet, while MR win their first points.

TJ started the league with a victory and now Stewart pulls it off again! With a nice 117 they get the better of ES and the victory is well deserved. No strange goalkeeping or other weirdness but a straight victory and maximum points for TJ. Will they be competing for the title this year? ES will stay at 1 point a needs to shape up to go for a playoff position. A better captain might help!

Both The Jazz and England Storm are considered candidates for (at least) the playoffs this season. Where TJ were able to win their first match in week 1, ES shared points with GU. In their first home game of the season, Stewart played almost 5 NSL less than Peter, but just look at how much more EMP he wins with it! That difference is 6.50, and that is what it’s all about, as it gave TJ 28 chances, against “only” 21 for ES, and when both the NSL 10 GK’s performed equally good, with a 13-8 score the victory was for TJ. TJ has 6 points out of 2 games now, so when it comes to playoffs, Stewart is well on his way, but hey, who knows what more might happen? Peter still waiting for his first victory, but I am sure that will happen soon.

In week 1 a had a few doubts but this week GU show good form. They keep a very attacking title candidate, DL, from having any regular chances which is quite a performance as loads of teams can tell! But then, they got unlucky.. The referee awarded DL a penalty and the star, CF Stansfield (rumored tob e sold by DL’s drunk manger though..) kicked it in. Martijn will be very happy with 6 points from 2 matches and Micheal will be very disappointed with zero..

GU started this season as we have known them for a long time: no goals for, no goals against. It is so very difficult to score against Grammar United, but it appears to be also very difficult for them to score themselves. This game against Druss Legends was just another example. Martijn saw his DL win in the previous league match, with the same WP tactics that almost led to promotion last season, so no reason to change that. Michael played his solid TS of course, and with both teams playing with 94.50 NSL, DL’s WP turned out just a little better (1.5 EMP). That was not enough for a smother shot, so this match could have ended in another 0-0, if it weren’t for the penalty that DL was awarded. CF Stansfield didn’t think twiced and kicked it home, leading to a lucky victory. DL off to a very good start once again, but I guess Martijn won’t cheer too soon, as last season he already could see that a lot of things can happen in the last 20 matches.

After two matches manager hasn’t seen his team score once! This will be a strange feeling for Colin after seasons of WP! But AS goes defensive. And all changes are diffecult. This match shows it. NH can only feel lucky as they got a sentoff but the drunk referre awarded THEM with a penalty. Halse said thanks and kicked it in. Colin will feel a bit robbed. Both teams will need quite some work if they want to fight for a playoff spot.

Newton Heath lost their first game, while AS shared points with PN that week. So, both teams still waiting for their first victory. Robert thought that his chances on that victory would be best if he’d played attacking in his home match, and that thought was rewarded. Although he was lucky. The difference in EMP in his advantage was not enough to create any smother shots, but the penalty he was awarded was of course good enough too, to secure a 1-0 victory. So, just like in the previous match, we see an attacking team beat a defensive team with only 1-0, because of a penalty awarded. Of course, in both cases the winning team was lucky, but I do have to point out that teams that play defense have a greater risk of giving away a penalty, so although they are unlucky, they do have a little influence on that misfortune. Robert will care less about that, while Colin probably expected a better start for AS in div. 2. I know I did.

PN players had the day of there lives as they walked all over Len’s SH. Len’s team in in a diffecult position and is eagerly awaiting aging. When you play a title favourite as PN the last thing you need then is bad luck. And what they got was…bad luck. The referee sent off TWO defenders of SH and this explains why the PN players had so much fun. SH defense was wide open and those freaky attackers scored at will. Because of the draw in week 1 PN is now trailing behind the top but they are nevertheless in great form!

Once again, Len was unlucky with Stannington Historical. Not 1, but 2 players had to leave the pitch early, because of a red card, both players even already in the first half of the match. Of course, this was too much for SH to cope with, and so Point of Napier had an easy win: 30-9. True story, of course. But, looking closer, it’s not the whole story. You see, of course SH is unfortunate, but have a look at the stats: Kelly put almost 12 NSL more on the pitch, and with her strong WP team, that would have been enough for a victory anyway, even if SH would have finished the game with 11 players. It’s easy to calculate, that the EMP that SH missed due to these send offs, was 5.36 + 4.48 = 9.84 EMP. The difference in EMP now is almost 37, which would have been reduced to almost 27, which is still a huge difference. In fact, I dare to put it this way: Even if those 2 red cards would have been for PN, instead of SH, PN still would have won the game. All it did was have some influence on how big the score was. Kelly jumps to the top positions again, with this victory (where PN belongs), while I guess that Len just has to wait another aging until his young players start performing a little better. But since SH has a team with a lot of potention, I don’t think Len will be worried.

In week 1 we say EU in surprising form and DS as well. So this is a real topmatch as the number 2 plays the number 3 :) EU had the better emp in week 1 and has the better emp now. They reach an incredible 130 emp in an away match and show they are in more than playoff form but in real title condition!. Two freaks, 100+ nsl. Really really impressive! DS is doing ok and will be competing for the playoffs but the lack the quality to stop, or even slow down EU. Good match!

Last season, Dead Scientists and England U-21 were in the bottom half of the league, but this season both teams started with a victory. So, if this match would have a win instead of a draw, one team would have a real good, and maybe unexpected start. Both teams played attacking, and put some nice NSL on the pitch. But already last week, we could see that Mike has 2 freaks now, and is able to start a match with over 100 NSL. In spite of Tims good effort, that was just too much for DS. DS performed well and created 15 chances, but EU was better and created almost the double, leading to a 14-8 victory. EU has 6 points now, and I don’t know how well EU is in rotation but looking at the way they have been performing in the first 2 matches, they look like a serious candidate for the title. And in spite of this weeks loss, DS looks a whole lot better than last season, and I expect them to win quite some more points. And then, who knows where it might lead.
