DIVISION 2 GAMES

Bruce’s MR doesn’t stop to amaze. Despite the fact that MR obviously isn’t the top team anymore it was he does win his important matches this season. After his good win in the cup and his decent start in the league he now beats NH in a match that was heavily influenced by the referee. NH had two sendoffs, MR one. Nevertheless the victory of MR was deserved i feel. NH will feel a bit disappointed i think but the battle for the playoffs has just started!

DL is engaged in full battle for the playoff and allmost lost valueble points here. DS is fighting back hard in this match and together with the dendoff of Cooper this allmost cost DL the match. But allmost is nothing at all so DL is the first team to get the full nine points. DS stays at three and will be looking for more to go for that playoff spot. With his selection of players, including the great CB Foxe this should be possible.

TJ is a team that has been performing quite well in recent seasons. AS was a team that was performing quite well in recent season. But something happened with AS and now they are in trouble, Newly relegated from Div1 they have now trouble picking up points in div2. I think Colin won’t panic of course be he will be planning a rebuilt for his team i’m sure. TJ on the other hand keep performing quite well and are moving on to good. Nine points out of three matches and they are keeping up with DL. great job Stewart!

This is probably the most important and interesting match of this week. PN was close to promotion last year and will try again this year (are you tired of being reminded yet Kelly?). EU has made huge progress this year and is competing with the “usual” favourites. And with success it seems. Both teams reached impressive emps but because of the home advantagde EU was actually better then PN. But that blasted RNG (Random Number Generator a.k.a The Devil, a.k.a Peter’s Revenge, a.k.a. censored by Commish) forbade EU’s victory. Kelly should be pleased because the gap is now two points in stead of five and Mike will feel robbed. Exciting to see what happens as this season goes on.

England U21 and Point of Napier has presented themselves as candidates for at least the playoffs in their first 2 matches, and both EU and PN are still without a loss. Of course, the clash between them promised to be exciting, and fortunately: it was!! Both Mike and Kelly made no concessions, and played their usual attacking tactics: WH vs WP. Quite impressive by the way, both their NSL and EMP, both EU and PN would have fit very well in div 1 again. EU was the better team in the end, as the difference in EMP was in their favour, and so they were awarded some more chances. Now when you know that EU has a NSL 10 GK, and PN only a NSL 9.25, you'd expect that the victory for EU would be just a formality, as this season, things are back to normal again, regarding GK's and their performances. However, what is also normal, is that once in every couple of matches, there has to be a surprise, and this week, it was the PN GK that surprised us with an excellent performance. That was just enough for PN to steal a point. Which is a great result for them, as to be honest, EU was the better team. Both teams still without a loss after 3 matches, so on their way to a good result

Until this match Micheal of GU had one point, Len of SH zero. But GU shows they are in better form then SH. Of course Len wasn’t helped by two sendoffs but GU had one sendoff as well and the difference in emp would be there (less big of course) anyway. It is interesting to see Len try out several tactics and i can’t help wondering which tactic he will settle for after aging. GU is on course for a playoff spot. SH will cruise to the midseason aging.

Another case of bad luck for Len and his Stannington Historical. For the second week in a row, they suffer from not 1, but 2 red cards. Now if any team would be jinxed this season, it will be SH without a doubt! Let's all hope that the luck will change for SH. However, on the other hand.......I don't think that this bad luck will have had any influence on the result. Sure, 2 sent offs is a bummer, but Grammar United, this weeks opponent, suffered from a red card as well. Besides, the difference in EMP, between these two teams, was no less than 25!! Looking at the influence of the red card: SH missed (10.55+5.36=) 15.91 EMP, and GU 5.21 EMP. So even if GU would still have seen a red card, and SH would have ended the match with 11 players, the difference in EMP in GU's favour would still have been 10! Which means that SH still would have had no chances, and GU still would have had a couple of smother shots. So, when everything is taken into account, the GU victory over SH can still be called fair after all. But I can imagine Lens frustration, because this is not just about losing this match, but also about losing a couple of decent players. Which is not a good thing, when you are in the position that SH is in, at the bottom of the league table. GU on the other hand climb a few places after their first win this season.

Both Englehart Storm and Adirondak Renegades were playoff candidates last season (and ES eventually even made it to the final!), but this season did not start too well for both teams. In fact, they are in the relegation zone. So, this weeks motto for both teams was obvious: Win Win Win! A victory would be the step in the right direction, the result that both Peter and Don have waited for for actually too long . So, both Peter and Don played attacking with a strong midfield, we saw WH against ONE, with a lot of chances for both teams, and by the way, with 2 excellent performing GK's! ES proved to be the better team though, not just in NSL, but also in EMP and chances (although the difference in EMP could have been smaller if it weren't for that red card for AM Man), and that resulted in a 11- 4 victory. Peter will be relieved with this first win, as Don will have to wait at least another week to do something about his bad position in the league.

When you look at the emp of these two teams you know that with one point between them these two teams are underperforming. ES is looking good for a few weeks now and this week thet get the full points needed to compete for the playoffs. They were helped by the sendoff of AR’s AM Mann but they would have won anyway because of home advantadge. A great performance for Peter. Don was battling for playoffs last season and was babysitting very young players. And still this season it doesn’t seem to work out as planned. I’m sure he was counting on a few points more then zero after three matches. Nevertheless i’m feeling optimistic so i’m predicting AR will make the playoffs this year. It might help if the manager started learning a few slang words to connect better with his young teamplayers though..
