DIVISION 2 GAMES

AR has had a tough start to the season, and Don is no doubt keen to put that right in due course. But this week was always going to be tricky. EU have built a very strong looking side, and they once again unleashed that at the Renedages. However, AR responded well - they might not have had the NSL on the pitch, but they had the tactic - MM (well done :)). Unfortunately for Don, the game saw his star WH sent off after only 3 mins, which destroyed any chance of a result for the home side. But wait - keeper Statto (who's been watching fantasy football?) had a great day, saving 6 times - but alas one crept in from Saha. EU continue to look good for promotion. AR still await their first points of the season.

The big game in division 2 (and possibly in any division this week) saw the top team, TJ, come up against DL, on the same points but behind on GD. But not for any longer! DL blew their hosts away with a mind-blowing Wing Play performance that would have beaten pretty much any team in the top division. Over 140 EMP - albeit with the aid of a grudge card. Gold, Pasquale and Stansfield (AA sold him many a moon ago :( ) scored 13 goals between them, as Stewy's CP tactics just didn't do the bizz (even though 126 EMP is hardly shabby). If the two sides continue in this vein, promotion is surely a guarantee.

NH, and particularly SH, have had rocky starts to the season, and if any are to avoid relegation - let alone bid for promotion - they need to get their skates on. On the basis of this game, neither side will trouble division 1 teams next season - but in the end, the WH team played by the home side was too much for a SH side that rested one or two key players. Had the Historicals keeper been on his game, the score might have been kept down - but 5 out of 6 shots were let in.

5th played 6th in this battle between two teams looking to stay in the play-off picture at this early stage in the season. The Senna stadium was looking forward to fast, flowing, attacking football from both sides - and the match didn't let the paying guests down. Unfortunately for the majority of the fans though, the result did not go Kelly's way. PN actually out-emped ES by a small margin; but the benefit of a 10 NSL keeper shone through as Aussie is more in his prime than � Prime. The sending off of Napier's Winger Gros just made things worse for AFC, and in the end Storm won by a comfortable 7 goals. Both teams look good for a promotion push on this form, mind.

9th and 10th drew swords at the Quantum stadium, both looking for a victory to move them away from the 3rd division trap door. And on the basis of this performance, the Scientists should be no where near this low in the league. Their WH team did the business, EMPing 124 points; and with Boateng in goalscoring form, victory was sealed. Even the sending off of Brand would probably have not made the difference for AS, who need to pick things up.

The battle of the two historically biggest teams currently plying their trade in the second division took place this week - and Mike and Robert were no doubt both keen to have bragging rights early doors. By the end of the 90 mins, GU easily took the spoils on that basis - winning by a narrow margin (1-0) - but only because of keeper Given. On the pitch, the quality of GU was light years ahead of MR. In fact, for once, Robert made an odd tactical decision, given that only 4 of his players benefited from the BC tactic Melchester played on the day. MR miss out on a chance to leap into a automatic promotions spot; GU climb above them and into the play-offs.
