SAEFL SEASON 10 WEEK 9

DIVISION 3 GAMES

The match between Blue Storm FC and Trav Spoodle is a match between one of the top 4 teams (in div 3 we already have a top 4, then a gap, and then a large midtable), and one of the teams in the bottom half of the midtable. TS is not a top 4 team for no reason, and once again, Travis proves why. Last week we already could see Travis rest his best players in the cup match, and now he’s ready and rested for some more league matches. First victim is Bryans BS. BS is one of those teams that are building for the future, which of course is very common in a new division with new teams. It makes perfect sense, but it also is a reason that some matches are lost, and for Bryan, this is one of them.

Fanatics United, the proud leader of the table, is still without loss of points. This week, Nik and his Falcons tried to do something about that. In their home match, Nik even played a boost to make things a little harder for FU. But it wasn’t enough. Brians FU is simply too good to be beaten by –with all respect- a team as FA, without playing a grudge. And even with a grudge, it will be difficult to beat FU. And so, with 18 points out of 6 matches, FU pull a DL-trick, as they call it in div 2 ? Of course, Nik was unlucky to end the match with 10 players, after a red card, but I don’t think it would have made a difference. Too bad for Nik, but FA will win other games.

Vitesse Arnhem is the second last team, and in this weeks match they play Defrosted Tunafish, the nr. 3 team, who are still unbeaten, and just behind the 2 leaders. Easy match for Claudio and his DT you’d think, very much like the previous game. But in this case, things turned out a little different. Wouter already put on more NSL on the pitch with VA, than Claudio with DT, and when Claudio saw his star player Rhaj leave the field with a red card already in the 3rd minute of the game, DT was never able to trouble VA. VA had more EMP, more shots, and at the end also more goals. VA now climb the table, while DT lose their 3rd position to TS. SAEFL SEASON 10 WEEK 9

Another top 4 team is Deo Volente. In fact, with FU they are the only team that still is without loss of points. We already saw FU win their game, will Otto be able to do the same with DV? The answer to this is no. Clives Fantastic Eleven already have shown that they are a good team, and in this match, they finally show that against another good team. With this win, FE make a successful step towards chasing those top 4 teams, and with a little effort and/or luck, Clive can make the top 4 into a top 5. So, Brian has a good week, as both the nrs. 2 and 3 of the table lose their game. (O yes, and Travis has a good week as well of course). Funny actually. Otto has played a lot of games without even thinking of winning. At yet he won them all. And now that he finally plays a boost and thinks he might pull out another win, it doesn’t work. Next time you better send in a loser team Otto!

The difference between Speedsters, the number last in the league and still without points, and the number 8, Smoking Guns, is only 3 points. So the difference between these 2 teams might look bigger than it actually is, and this might very well be an excellent opportunity for Magnus to get rid of that hated zero in the league table, in the colom “points”. Well, Magnus didn’t even have to put much effort into it. That is: he didn’t even play a boost or grudge, to increase his chances on winning the first points of the season. As a matter of fact, looking at these statistics, it makes you wonder how SS was still without points after 5 matches, as their performance is quite ok. It might not be enough to be in the race for the title, but it should be enough for the midtable. At least it was a lot better (this match) than Imans SG, although SG also suffered from a red card and had to end the match with 1 player less. However, this is not the best team that SG could play. While on the other hand, for SG this might have been a match that they could win, and that would have doubled their points. (It’s all a matter of picking the games you loose, and picking the games to win). Anyway, SS and SG both on 3 points now, and the last place in this game is finally decided by goaldifference now, not by points.

The last match this week is between Adelaide Kickers and Aros VK, and somehow this is a rather special match, as last week both these teams managed to win their group in the first cup stage, beating div 1 and div 2 teams to achieve that. Of course, that is quite a performance, and so when these 2 teams meet, you could expect a stunt from one of both managers. Well, David and Christer have proven to be true cupfighters, in the league their results are not quite alike. AV is the team in 5th position, chasing the top 4 teams, while AK is the nr. 9 team with only 3 points out of the first 5 matches. However, in a week after a cup week, in which both teams really went for it, everything is possible. At least, that was what David thought, as he played his grudge. If Christer would have gave most of his best players rest, after that cup adventure, AK might have got away with it, but apparantly AV is going for good results in both league and cup, so Christer played a strong team. Because of that, the result of the grudge was not that AK suddenly was stronger than AV, but that both teams turned out to be equally strong. Sure, looking at EMP, AV was still a little better, but since AK had a better GK, things were more or less in balance. And so was this game, with a 5-5 result. Of course, we have seen a lot of matches this week, that were pretty close, and that were (or weren't) decided by the performance of the GK's. This match is one of those matches that could have had a winner, if either GK would have saved 1 more shot. If that would have happened, I guess the result of this game would still have been fair. However, with a point each, I guess both Christer and David can be satisfied given all the circumstances.
