How weird is this?  I play FI twice in one week!  First in the cup then in the league game.  I guess we'll get cozy with them if nothing else.

The loss last time to CA was unfortunate, but not unexpected.  I can only hope for a good mid season aging.  After all it saved me last year!!!

DIVISION 2

Adirondak Renegades

Adirondack Press (AP): If memory serves me correctly, 2 weeks ago you said AR's roster was beginning to stabilize. Then you bought a good young WH, Camonaresi, played him one match, then traded him. Part of a 4 player deal. This is stable?

Manager Fulmer (MF): I'm not looking to trade, haven't been for several weeks. But I won't pass on an opportunity to improve the team. CM Guerrero is an outstanding player, and will be very important with all of the good CP teams in Div 2 this season. The second player we got, AS Clichy_1, fits beautifully into our long term plans. We have been acquiring young AS, we now have 6 age 20 or younger, and Clichy_1 is very talented for a 19 year old. We gave up 2 very good players, but the players we acquired fit better with the tactic revision we are working on.

AP: And what tactic revision would that be?

MF: Let the other teams scouts figure it out :)

AP: Changing topics, Manager Thomas of AK released a story about former AK and current star AM Swannson going out drinking and getting jailed the night before the cup game between AR and AK. Any comments?

MF: We obviously have some work to do to break Mats of the bad habits he learned at AK. At AR, we go out drinking after the game to celebrate victories, instead of before the game to dull the pain on game day.

AP: Speaking of victories, a few over the next several weeks would be very important for AR. Your next 4 matches are DS, FU, LU, and EW. DS, LU, and EW are tied for first. FU is tied with AR and PN only 3 points from the top.

MF: I'm really looking forward to the next few weeks. There is going to be some great competition in Div 2 this season. I think LU is the class of the Division and should win it, but all five of the other teams you mentioned have a chance at second place and automatic promotion. I think there are also a couple of other teams that have a shot at a playoff spot before all is said and done. This is why I brought in a strong player like Guerrero. It is also possible I could be looking to strengthen our defense before too long.

AP: On top of a tough league schedule, you drew CA in the cup. Definitely a major challenge. AR is a very deep team, but do you have enough depth for all of this?

MF: I really enjoy playing against Ivo, but I am not really looking forward to this cup. CA is not going to make a run at the league title this season, but they are definitely safe from relegation, so I am pretty sure Ivo is going to focus on the cup. I'll just have to enjoy my memory of knocking him out of last season's DESL cup.

The Excelsior Herald...

Last week's speculation concerning the future of long serving keeper Manchester caused a near riot at Monument Park. Angry fans beseiged the training sessions and there were reports that a small delegation managed to storm the manager's office. At his Friday press conference Bracegirdle (sporting a pair of dark sun glasses on a very gloomy morning) assured the faithful that Manchester was staying put. He would not confirm how long for. When asked whether he had been forced to select Manchester for this week's game by extreme elements of the supporters clubs, Bracegirdle took a quick glance over his shoulder and said that this was categorically not the case. The fact is that no new keeper has been brought in. Objectively the fact is that a decent new keeper is needed. Whether the manager has the determination to see off the local ultras and do what needs to be done is not known. His selection of keeper this week may give us a clue.

Don't really  think that TS was in that Cup game, well thanx for the training.

We got a nice, unexpected win last week so we will see what happens this week.  We are currently tied for fourth but a win could bump us into tied for first.  We play NH, who are in ninth place so we should win but you never know.

DIVISION 3

Adelaide Kickers

Guns to stop Smoking?

That is the hope of the Kickers this week.  Though the team has the worst GD in the whole league, Adelaide is looking to stop the winning streak SG has built up this season.

SB:  SG will be hard t beat this week won't they?

DT:  Absolutely Stephanie.  Any team that starts the season with 6 straight wins is always going to be a tough game.

SB:  What is morale like leading up to the game?

DT:  Morale is pretty good.  Especially after playing quite well midweek.

SB:  Yes, a narrow 2-nil loss against one of the best sides the SAEFL has seen is not too bad at all.

DT:  It is the second time we have had to play them in the cup this season.  AA have won both games but only scored 3 goals against us.  We might not have scored any ourselves but keeping them to a low score keeps us alive for the second leg at home.

SB:  Isn't it a problem though that you haven't even managed a shot against them though.

DT:  It is.  They have only had 6 though against us.  Very defensive games with second string players.  All we need to do is have a few shots against them and then we might get through to the next round.

SB:  Turning back to the league.  A loss last week pushed the team further behind in the playoff race.  Does it bother you that a loss here to SG could spell the end of the season for the team.

DT:  Not at all.  We are not even half way through the season yet.  SG are going to lose a game sooner or later, why not this week?  The playoff race is still well and truly alive.  We are only 4 points hebind with 16 games still to go.  We have been concentrating on the cup the last few weeks as that is what the guys feel they can do.  Midweek showed us that.  We just need to get out there and do it on weekends aswell.

SB:  Thanks for your time David.

DT:  No probs Stephanie.

African Selection

OOOPS. Blow out city. The Selects take a gamble and it back fires....should not have played LB against FE. The Selects were smoked! Luckily, we are still the most defensive team in Division 3. We would also be the most defensive team in Divisin 2. However we are not in the top 5 in Division 1. And you wonder what makes them so good...No BLOW OUTS!!!!!

Hope you all had a great holiday season.

Cup - We unfortunately need to rest some players at this stage of the season and expect to get thumped.

League

Resting our key players last week took us to the bottom of the 3rd div. Our attention this week is firmly on the CUP and we have an uphill battle against EU who also seems to be struggling in their division.

It's not going to be easy as we are away to them and they are a good side but we will give it our best shot.

SH was fuming after their against VA. Manager Lear stated after the match,"This is not the result we were looking for. We wanted the win badly and didn't get it. As a result, SH is going to be after SG this week with all of our smoking guns blazing and we aren't going to let up. We feel we are the #1 team in the division and we aim to prove it.
