DIVISION 1 GAMES

The match between FC Inferno and Apocalypse is the clash between the numbers 5 and 10 on the table. Looking at those numbers, you’d say that this is a match between a team chasing the leader of the table, and a relegation candidate, but when you have a closer look, at the points for example, you see that only 3 points (so 1 match) separate FI and AP. In fact, apart from GU, who are at 2 points (and look in trouble), and DL and JG, who have created a top 2 – gap, anything is possible from position 3 to 11. Sure, in the long run even more (so everything) is possible, but 9 out of the 12 positions can be totally, totally different in only 2 matches. And that while already a third of the matches (7 out of 22) have been played. This years league promises to be very exciting! However, as far as the points that separate FI and AP are concerned: that will be somewhat less exciting, as Marco manages to beat Martins AP in their home game. Looking at the match, FI in fact did not deserve this victory. They tried to counter AP’s Wingplay with OFF, but played only 90 NSL against a 100 for AP. So, it was not enough a counter to be better than AP: AP had 4 EMP more, and looking at the fact that AP also had a better GK (10 against 9.25), the victory should have been for AP. But Martin was unlucky with his GK’s performance, and that made FI steal the victory and the 3 points. With the loss, AP will most likely remain in the danger zone, while the gap between FI and that very same danger zone will now be at least 2 victories, and that must feel a little safer.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 11

The clash between the Jazz Greats and Alcohol Anonymous is always one of those special matches in div 1. It’s not the first season that we can find both teams in the top of the table, JG at 2nd position, and AA at 4th position. However, no less than 6 points between them. In other words, if Nathan doesn’t want AA to drop out on the race for the title (at least not for a while), he better make sure he wins this match, or at least doesn’t lose it. Apparantly Nathan chose the latter, as he played a boost plus a strong defense team. That must have been looking for the 0-0. However, Bart was destined to win this top match, and played a grudge, along his strong WP. That made JG EMP 159, and of course that was too much to handle for AA. 132 EMP of course is not bad, especially not in an away game, but compared to JG, it was peanuts! The 9-0 was clear, and like a statement: beware of JG, for they are going for the title! However, for that, they first need to catch up with DL, because they are still 2 points behind. So let’s see what DL have done this week. AA are out of the race for the championship, but not nearly in trouble.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 11

Well, after we have just seen JG beat AA, so the nr. 2 beat the nr. 4, let’s see what the nr. 3 has done. The nr. 3 (after 7 matches) is The Boelewieten, and this week they facing a difficult challenge in their away game against Tottenford Heats. TH are the nr. 7 on the table, but in this dutch clash, TH was not the underdog team. They played a very, very strong ZD team, just look at how easy they reach 140 EMP!! Very impressive Mark, with a team like that, I can understand that you don’t feel like taking a risk when playing a NSL 8 GK. Of course, that was too strong for TB’s CP team to cope with, and although I can understand that Jeroen will not like the red card for S Kano, he will admit that it was of no influence for the outcome of this match. With these 3 points, no doubt that TH will climb back to the top half of the table, in fact they even pass AA (because of goal difference). TH is 2 points behind TB now, who also fall back in the chase of the top 2 team. Does this mean that already after 8 out of 22 matches, we only have 2 candidates left for the title?

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 11

Catbel Athletic against The Jazz is the match between the numbers 6 and 8 on the league table. After we saw both AA and TB lose their game, this match beteen CA and TJ is just as much a fight against relegation, as it is a fight for the 3rd place on the table. You just can’t tell, since everything is still very close. Sounds very exciting, but neither Ivo nor Stewart felt like playing a grudge or boost. CA had the home advantage, but already after 3 minutes, they saw that advantage disappear because of a red card for CM Garanhao. Nonetheless, CA was much better, and that was because they played a very strong team where TJ didn’t. (Was Stewart resting players?). Anyway, in this match, CA only needed 10 players to beat TJ, and even then they could afford to miss 2 out of 4 chances. In other words: the victory and the 3 points for CA were very much deserved, and Ivo will be very happy with them, because the only reason that CA was not in the relegation zone, was goal difference. Let’s hope these 3 points are a start of a period with some more points for CA. TJ fall to the bottom half of the table, but will most likely still be on the good side of the danger line, and that with their best players fully rested next week, I think.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 11

NoShaKi WC’98 versus InterQuartile Rangers, is a game in which we see the numbers 9 and 11 fight each other, and for sure, if this game knows a winner, the loser will be/stay in the relegation zone. Both Mike and Terry played attacking, but Terry’s ONE was much better equipped than NW’s WP, both in NSL and “balance”. Because of that, IQ was the better team, by far! The difference was nearly 20 EMP, and of course, that was too much to make up for with –for example- surprising GK performances. The 20-13 victory for IQ was no more than fair, and with the 3 points, they climb out of the relegation zone. NW take their place there, and for the second season in row, we see NW, the mighty great NW, in trouble. Will Mike be able to pull the same stunt again, like he did last season? We’ll see. The differences are still small, so next week everything can be different again.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 11

..and this is the match that Bart and the rest of us have been waiting for: Druss Legends against Grammar United. The leader of the table in their home game against the number last of the table. Martijn is supposed to win this game –noblesse oblige-, and if he wants to keep the lead he even has to, after JG’s victory. Well, DL lived up to the expectations, and had no trouble beating the poor GU, who were unlucky to see DS McGoo 3rd shown a red card too. DL just keep on winning, and stay 2 points ahead of JG, and even more ahead of ‘the rest’ , so Martijn will be still happy. Michael won’t probably, as GU are still waiting for their first win, and in fact, they are also still waiting for their first away goal. The difference between them and the nr. 9 position (which means safety!), has grown to 7 points, so they would need at least 3 matches without losing to clear that. Time for a change!
