DIVISION 1 GAMES

Both FC Inferno and Alcohol Anonymous are top half team, so the clash between them could be considered a huge match. However, on the other side: if you take a good look at the league table, you’ll see that we have a top 2, a bottom 2, and then 8 teams –the nrs. 3 to 10 on the table- that are so very close, that I guess a lot of teams can switch from top to bottom (or the other way around) by either losing or winning a match. In this particular case: chances are big that if a team would lose this one, they would drop to the bottom half. But even then, there’s no need to worry of course. FI against AA? Knowing Marco and Nathan, a defensive match was expected, and indeed that is what we saw. A strong TS against a strong ZD, both teams almost equally strong, and as a result of that, the match had “0-0” written all over it. The only chance of winning, was by being awarded a penalty. This week, Marco was the lucky one. Not even did FI get that penalty, but they also scored it, resulting in a 1-0 victory.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 15

The next match is a different story. Interquartile Rangers is one of those 8 teams in the large midtable, but their opponent this week, Jazz Greats, is leading the table, and –at least as it looks now- in a fight for the title with DL. Barts JG is known for the strong WP, but occasionally, those attackers need rest. That is when the TS comes in. You have to pick those matches in which you can play TS, and still have a good shot at winning. Bart even played a boost, to have a better chance. Which is a logical move of course. Terry however, wanted to win this match as well. Not even did he play his strong ONE team, but he also played a Grudge with that. Instead of anticipating JG strategies or tactics, Terry followed his own strengths, and I always like it when managers do that. (Of course, you have to be able, but still..) That was too much for JG’s TS, and IQ crushed the title candidate: 6-0! With the 3 points, IQ are back in the top half, while JG might lose their top position again to DL. So now we have to wait what they have done.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 15

NoShaKi WC’98 and Apocalypse are the nrs. 9 and 11 on the table, both in the bottom half. However, they are separated by 6 points, and that means that AP is one of the bottom 2 teams, while NW could be easily in the race for 3rd place. For that, they would need a victory of course, and why not do that in a home match against AP. Martin however, did not want to increase that 6 point difference to 9 points, and played a grudge, thinking that if he wanted AP to get out of the danger zone, they needed to win matches like these. With a strong (also because of that GC of course) Wingplay team, AP took on the Noshaki CounterPunch, and in fact they were better: 8 NSL, and almost 14 EMP. However, Mike played with the better GK, and we all know what a difference that can make. AP created 10 more chances, but the W GK saved 10 more chances, so in the end AP and NW turned out equally good: 14-14. All things in perspective: it might seem like a fair result (considering how important a good GK is), but when you look at the EMP difference for AP because of no less than 2 injuries, my guess is that AP would have won this game if it weren’t for the injuries. And with that in mind, you can imagine how sorry Martin must feel about that! A point each, which is 2 points short of getting a good result, but still 1 point in the right direction.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 15

Catbel Athletic against Tottenford Heats is one of those classic dutch clashes. Last week, TH beat CA, will CA be able to taste the sweet revenge in their home match? You might think that Ivo would go for that. But apparently, either midseason aging wasn’t that great for CA, or he had to rest players, because the 93 NSL was not that bad, but it was less then last week. It was also less than the 96.75 NSL that Mark put up, and with the strong ZD team that we know from TH, this was typically one of those CP against ZD matches, that is either 0-0 in the end, or is decided by a penalty or 1 or 2 smother shots. In this case, Ivo may be happy that TH’s FB Yersale was shown a red card after 30 minutes, because the result of that was that TH’s EMP was not high enough for a smother shot, and since there was no penalty either, the match ended as it started: 0-0, although the match was not as boring as it may seem. Again: 1 point each, and that means the difference between CA and TH remains 3 points (in TH’s favour). TH remain in the top half, and CA remain in the bottom half, but with 10 matches to go, everything is still possible for these 2 teams, except winning the title. I think.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 15

After we saw JG lose their match earlier, the biggest question in div 1 was what DL would have done. Well: here’s the answer: Druss Legends did not make any mistake, and beat The Jazz in their home match, just like they were expected to do! Sure, you can say that Martijn was luckier than Bart, because unlike JG’s opponent (IQ), Stewart decided to take too many chances in an away match against the title contender, and rested a lot of his best TJ players, knowing that TJ would have quite a number of better opportunities to win matches than this one. And the truth is, that Stewart is right. TJ is in the relegation zone, and if Stewart wants to escape that, he needs to pick the matches to win the points. Looking at the strong DL team this week, even when playing his strongest team, what chance would TJ have had? Sure, by losing this match they remain in the relegation zone, but at least their players are rested now. Although they have to be careful, as we already have seen AP, NW, IQ, CA and FI (So, the numbers 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 –while TJ is 9) win points this week.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 15

GU are under new management and it looks like Mike is trying to turn GU into an attacking team and right now they just dont have the players for that and it showed. GU had to play alot of players OOP and TB punished them and it leaves GU still anchored to the base of Div1 can Mike pull a rabbit out of the hate and get GU out of the basement ? With this Win TB jump into 3rd spor but still 7 points adrift of the 2 leaders
