DIVISION 1 GAMES

Jazz Greats against FC Inferno is a top half match, as it’s the confrontation between the numbers 2 and 5. Exciting match you’d think? No, forget it. The difference between these two teams might be small when it comes to league positions, but in points it is no less than 15. That is because JG and FI, or actually Bart and Marco, have different goals this season. JG is still very much in the race for the title, together with DL and maybe TB (as an outsider), while FI is going for the cup this season. Last week was a cup week, in which they performed their best, and this week they needed to rest a little. Only 84.25 NSL was put on the pitch, and that says it all. Bart even took the risk to rest Mbamba, and of course he got away with it, the difference between JG and FI in this match was too big (well, except for the red cards, because they got 1 each). It’s only because of the SM tactics that Marco chose, that the win wasn’t any bigger (in goals). Nonetheless: 3 easy points for JG, who of course remain in the race for the title, and now wait for what DL will have done, while FI can prepare for the next cup match.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 19

NoShaKi ’98 vs. Alcohol Anonymous will always be a special clash, I think The most special aspect of this particular clash, will without any doubt be the fact that this is the first match of Vince as NW manager. Vince took off where Mike probably would have left it the very same way: Grudging AA. Nathan of course played the usual strong defense (Look at Altercapio EMP above 20!), and without the grudge, it would not only have smothered NW’s attack (WP), but it would also have been enough for the victory. In this case, however, the grudge gave NW enough extra EMP not to lose this game, as it made that both teams ended up to be equally strong. The 0-0 in the end was fair, so a point for both teams. An important point for NW in their battle against relegation, although you can also say that playing a grudge makes you expect 3 points.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 19

Last week, we saw Grammar United sell their freak defender, which (at least in my opinion) means that they have given up the fight to stay in div 1, and are already preparing for the next season. That is not a bad decision of course, it is never good for your team (and it’s future) if you have to make some sacrificies in you effort to stay in, and be left empty-handed anyway. This weeks match for GU was the away game against Catbel Athletic, one of the many mid-table teams. But CA looks to be one of those midtable-teams that have grown stronger after midseason aging, and looking to get safer from relegation by the week. This week turned out to be no exception: Ivo could even rest his AS’s (including freak Damaseb), and still play a very strong ZD. Normally, in a match against GU, that would have meant a 0-0 for sure, unless a penalty would be given (which in this case actually was the case!). However, without DS Brant, GU’s defense is not as strong as it was, and just like Ivo expected when deciding to rest some good players, 93 NSL ZD was enough for a comfortable win:3-0. CA climb to the top half of the table, while GU can prepare for next season.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 19

Without a doubt, the match of the week was the clash between the numbers 1 and 3 in div 1, Druss Legends and The Boelewieten. Druss Legends were 2 points ahead of JG, who have won their game this week, so JG could take the lead in case of a DL defeat, or even a draw, because JG has the better Goal difference. On the other hand, TB was 9 points behind DL, so a victory and the 3 points that go with it would not only mean that DL keeps the lead, but it also would mean that TB is out of the race for the title forgood. A victory for TB however, would bring the gap back to 6 points (and 7 with JG). In other words: DL – TB was a very important match for both Martijn and Jeroen (and in fact, for Bart as well), so it was no surprise that both managers saved a grudge for it. Martijn played the strong attacking WP that we expect from him, and reached an impressive 140+ EMP. Jeroen however, was confident, did not want to counter Martijns attack with OFF, but believed in the strength of his own players, and chose CP. That made TB stronger, not just stronger than when he would have played OFF, but also stronger than DL! Almost 150 EMP was reached, and although the difference was not immense, it was big enough to call the TB victory (22-20) fair, without hesitation. With Bart and JG as a laughing third party, TB stay in the race for the title, still as an outsider, but nonetheless: they remain in the race. With 6 matches left to play, including the JG-DL clash, plus a TB-JG confrontation, who knows what surprises TB is capable of. Anyway, it will probably exciting until the very end, at the top. The only thing that will be not surprising, is that the winner will be Dutch, but hey……is the pope a catholic?

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 19

The Jazz against Tottenford Heats is a top half vs. bottom half match. In fact, TJ is even in the relagation zone (although only 1 point away from NW, who just won a point in their match against AA), while TH is on 6th position, which is not as high as they are capable of, but that is because Mark is going for the cup again, this season. Last week was one of those cup weeks, and of course, TH went for it. And with success, I may say. As a result of that, TH is resting some good players this week. On the other side, Stewart of course knows Marks reputation when it comes to the weeks before or after cup weeks, but if you are the manager of a team in the relegation zone, you don't want to gamble, no, you want to win points. And Stewart does not want to wait until the very end of the season, which is what every clever manager would want, so he played a boost in his home game. Well, that did it for TJ! TJ's ONE was way too strong for TH's defense, the difference was more than 18.5 EMP. The only thing that TJ did not do that well this match, was being accurate with their chances. But that was nothing to worry about, as when you create 9 chances, and give away nothing, it doesn't matter if you miss 5 shots. Stewart and TJ climb to 9th position, which is very important, as it means they're on the good side of the relegation line now. TH drop to the bottom half, but as long as TH does well in the cup, and doesn't get in relegation trouble, Mark won't care. However....with TJ only 4, and NW only 5 points away now, Mark can't afford not to watch the table.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 19

InterQuartile Rangers are in that big mid-table of div 1, but the gap with the relegation zone isn't that big. However, unlike last year, they are out of the cup and can fully focus on staying in div 1. The first step towards safety should be the match against Apocalypse, who actually are IN that relegation zone. Terry of course knew that this would be one of those matches, especially since it's a home game, that has to be won. That is why he played a very strong WP. Martin however, who is in need of points even more than Terry, with AP, played an even stronger (NSL-wise) ONE, and so we were shown a very attractive, attacking match. The home advantage for IQ equalled the NSL surplus from AP, and in the end, after 90 minutes (you can't really say that AP suffered from that red card, as it was only given in the 90th minute), both teams were almost equally strong. IQ was just a little better, which brought them 46 chances, against 45 for AP. See how close it was? Now, with a NSL 10 GK for IQ, against a NSL 9 GK for AP, you'd expect a victory for IQ. But this was one of those crazy matches, in which the lesser Goalie appeared to be the hero. That brought AP a win with the narrowest possible margin: 23-22. Tough for Terry, who could have taken a nice step towards safety, but now things at the bottom, or at least around the relegation line, have become closer and closer. Martin will be happy. At the end of the league, we will know how important this lucky strike turns out to be.
