DIVISION 2 GAMES

The first match in div 2, is already a top match, when Adirondak Renegades play at home against Excelsior Warren. The proud leader of the table, AR, did not want to take any chances, and therefore Don played a boost, to make sure that he would not be surprised by any trick that Simon and EW would pull. Of course, it’s always better to be safe then sorry, but it turned out that he could have managed to win the 3 points even without that boost, because –since EW didn’t put any extra effort into it- they were just stronger, and with the better morale and the home advantage, that led to a 11-2 victory after 90 minutes. This result means that AR will lead the table for at least another week (if not more!), and that the gap with EW has increased to 7 points now. Which in a way means that, with this defeat, EW is out of the race for the title.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 20

After last weeks heroic win over AR, Lisbon United have shown that LU is still very much in the race for the title, only 3 points behind AR. However, after we just saw AR win their game, LU better make sure they win as well, or last weeks result will suddenly stand in the shadow of this weeks reality. Of course, that is exactly what Nuno intended in the away game against Englehart Storm. And although Derek did not want to give anything away and played a strong ONE team, the LU team was even stronger, and on top of that they ended the match with 11 players. Nonetheless, the red card for Garotionho did not influence the result, maybe only the score, but LU would have won this anyway, and with that they stay in the race for the championship. ES have to watch out now, and have to wait what DV and NH have done, because they can drop into the relegation zone this week, after this defeat.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 20

Newton Heath can benefit from ES’s loss by winning their match, and with that climb to a safe position. To do that, they have to beat Defrosted Tunafish, which is not an easy job as DT are in those top 5 teams that are in the race for the title. Apparantly, Claudio already counted on a strong NH, and played a grudge because he thought he could not afford to lose this one. And he didn’t. DT was just a little better, they created 17 chances agasint 15 for NH, and had a better GK as well, but NH was a little luckier when it came to saving chances, and with the 8-8 result in the end, both teams won a point, but also lost two points, because NH is still in the relegation zone, and DT is actually out of the race for the title now.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 20

England U21 has a new manager in Martin, and Martin is unlucky that he has been given a team at the bottom, with the most difficult matches left: EU had to play against all top 5 teams in the last 6 matches. And that is not all that EU is unlucky with, also in this particular match, they were shown a red card after already 10 minutes. That is too much for a team in trouble to cope with, especially when you are playing against a title candidate, in this case the nr. 2 on the table, Point of Napier. Sure, Kelly also saw PN get a red card, but that was later in the match, and it was for the least important player. In spite of all that, the bottom line is that PN, being the title candidate, did what they had to do and beat the nr. 12, which for EU will not have been a shocking result. After the top 3 teams won their match, and the nrs. 4 and 5 spilled points, I think the race for the title will be between AR, PN and LU now. EU can focus on next season, and Martin can look forward to that next season, as EU has some pretty talentend players in the roster.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 20

Dead Scientists and Fanatics United are the nrs. 6 and 8 on the table, separated by 4 points, and that of course means that both teams are very much in the race for the playoffs. Tim missed a couple of players due to injuries, and had to play a DS team that was not as strong as he would have wanted to. Excellent opportunity for Brian to take advantage of that, and that is exactly what he did, even the red card for Calixtus didn’t matter: with a strong CP he countered DS’s WH, and although he wasn’t much better, it was enough for a victory: 2-0. FU are still behind DS now, and on the bottom half of the table, but they are getting closer and closer now! But on the other hand: DS are still ahead!

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 20

Oaklake City and Deo Volente are 2 bottom half teams. Oaklake City is on 7th position, only 1 victory away from the playoffs, while Deo Volente is in the relegation zone. However, only 4 points separate these 2 teams, and because things between 6th and 11th place are very very close, that can all be turned around just like that. Good reason to play a boost, is what Keith must have thought. However, it was not enough to surprise Otto’s DV, as with a very strong CP, he countered that, and with a very small margin (only 1 goal difference), DV beat OC at the home of the oaks. Very narrow, but it was fair, and with this win, DV climb out of the relegation zone (ES drop into that), and although they will have to watch out for relegation until the very end, they are still in the race for the playoffs as well. For OC, it’s exactly the same story, by the way.
