Although 5 points separate Adelaide Kickers and Melchester Rovers, both teams are in the race for a playoff spot. The 5 point gap could be brought back to only 2 if AK would win their home match this week, so there was something at stake here. Neither David nor Bruce played a grudge or a boost though, and that made that both teams remained equally strong. Even the 2 red cards were divided equal, so that didn’t make much difference. In the end, AK turned out to be just a little better, but the difference wasn’t very big, and in that perspective, the 11-11 is a result that’s just as fair as a small victory for AK.

The question in div 3 is not who will win the title, but when Stannington Historical will win the title. With 6 matches to go, they are 9 points ahead of SG, and in this away match against the Falcons, the nr. 11 on the table, nothing less than a huge victory for SH was expected. Len even played a boost to live up to those expectations, but he better saved that for another match, as Nik rested his best players, and fielded only 66.50 NSL. SH almost reached twice the EMP of FA!!!! The 22-0 victory in the end wasn’t even fair, as it should have been even higher!! Luckily for FA, that NSL 8 GK was in great form, saving 28 out of 50 chances, because it might have been worse….

Speedsters are on 5th position, and with that very much in the race for a playoff spot. This week, they play a home match against the nr. last on the table, Aros VSK. You’d expect that to be an easy victory for SS. Shaun did not make the mistake of underestimating his opponent, and played a pretty strong side. However, he was unlucky that not only 2 of his players had to leave the field with an injury, but also that AV played a very strong side, so strong that it makes you wonder what AV is doing on last position. In fact, AV was strong enough to win the game, and the 14-15 result after 90 minutes might make you think that it was a close game, but it wasn’t. AV could have won even bigger. Too bad for Shaun and SS, because the battle for playoff positions is very close, and they could have used 3 points against the number last.

Fantastic Eleven are on 3rd position, and since they are only 3 points behind SG, they are still very much in the race for the 2nd position, and thus direct promotion. Vitesse Arnhem has another objective, and that is to make it to the playoffs. In an effort to win points from this difficult away match against a better team, Michael played a grudge, hoping this could be the first step in a nice series of matches. That plus the red card for FE’s Mantorras made that VA in fact was better than FE, although it wasn’t very much: only 0.30 EMP. That is a difference so small, it’s neglectable. A difference that couldn’t be neglected, is that Clive played a NSL 10 GK, against a NSL 9 GK on the other side. That of course did make a difference: 11-7

After we have already seen SH and FE win their game, the question was what SG would have done. Well, things remain the same at the top of the table, because Smoking Guns win their match as well. In the away game against the African Selection, SG weren’t a lot better, but it was evident enough: 8 EMP, 6 chances and 6 goals. Of course, Colin was unlucky with the red card for Maldade, but that happened only in the 78th minute, so I don’t think the outcome would have changed, and Monty and SG still would have won.

Trav Spoodle and Blue Storm FC are 2 bottom half teams. But where TS is still very much in the race for the playoffs (they are only in the bottom half because of their goal difference), BS is too far behind I guess. Both Warren and Brandon did not play a very strong team (resting players Warren?), and so the EMP wasn’t very high on both sides. Nonetheless, what’s interesting: TS played 6 NSL less, but still managed the higher EMP. Their EMP/NSL score was 1.32 for TS against 1.21 for BS, which is actually quite a difference. However, the biggest difference in this game was something else: the GK! We all know how important that GK is. In this particular match, it was 8 NSL against 10 NSL, and of course that was too much for TS to cope with. The 13-10 victory for BS was a fair result, in that perspective.
