CUP SIMI FINALS LEG 1

The first semi-final this week is between FC Inferno, a well-known cupfighting team, who kicked out AA in the previous round, against Trav Spoodle, a team that has never come so far in the cup until now, after beating NW in the quarter finals. Marco of course checked out TS, and must have seen that TS’s best tactics by far is WP. Now how do you anticipate that? FI can play ONE, which has been their nr. 1 tactics for quite a while, but their ONE is not as strong as it used to be, anymore. These days, the strongest FI tactics is defense: TS. However, the risk of playing defense, is that you don’t create a lot of chances, so not a lot of goals. Even if you are a lot better. Then, of course, there’s always the possibility of playing OFF, when you’re playing against a WP team. However, the risk here is that your opponent surprises you by playing another tactics all of a sudden. Marco did the best thing in my opinion. He followed his own strength, instead of adapting his tactics to his opponent, and played his strongest team with his strongest tactics, which is TS. He even played a boost with it, and along with the home advantage, that had to do it. For Warren, there weren’t that many options. As already mentioned, TS has a WP that is so powerful, all other tactics are way behind that, so Warren did not have to think twice about that. WP it was! Being a div 3 team, TS received a 5% cup bonus, but according to Warren, TS could use even more, so played a grudge, which made that TS had 15% extra performance. And in spite of being the away team, that is what did it! FI gave a solid performance, and reached over 141 EMP, but that was not enough to stop the TS attack: Ameobi, Vedder and Hayes were unleashed, and with a fine 147+ EMP, TS crushed FI: 6-1. Marco will not believe this, if this is what TS can do in an away game, what can FI expect at Jurgens Avenue? It looks like TS are with one foot in the final already, as FI have a mountain to climb now. Or does Marco have something left to surprise us? It will have to be more than “just” a grudge anyway. Will be continued soon………..

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 21

The other semi-final is, just like the previous match, a confrontation between a known cupfigher and a surprising team. Tottenford Heats is has already won the cup twice in the last couple of years, and it looks like Mark has set his mind to making it a triple this season. He already made it to the semi-finals, after beating AP in the quarters. England U-21 has been the biggest surprise in the semi finals, especially since they are the nr. last in div 2. In the previous round however, they showed unaffected by league table reputations, and eliminated the nr. 1 of their competition, AR. Will they be able to repeat that stunt? We all know that TH is a ZD/CP team, and have always been that. Since EU is no WP team, and Mark did not have to think about OFF, that meant he had to pick either ZD or CP. Mark chose the obvious tactics, and that was CP. The advantage of ZD is that it can generate even more EMP than CP, but the downside is that it boosts your opponents attackers (and EU has a freak), and that it doesn’t create that many chances. And a 1-0 victory is not that much, if you have to play the return away from home. Martin could chose from a number of tactics too. All he had to do for that was look at all the EU matches this season. However, in spite of being a new manager, apparently he did not have a hard time picking the tactics that is best for EU: ONE. Both Mark and Martin saved a grudge for this match, hoping to create a gap already that is big enough that the return match can be used for defending that gap. Unlike in the previous match however, it was not EU that surprised TH. In spite of the Div-2-cup-bonus, EU were not strong enough to cause any problems to the Tottenford hero’s. EU put more NSL on the pitch, but Mark showed us that TH has the perfect balance of players and tactics, as in the end, TH had almost 15 EMP more. The 14-8 in the end was a fair reflection of the match. However, 6 goals difference may sound like a big difference, but in this situation (unlike the FI-TS match) it isn’t, because in the return EU will have the home advantage, so everything is still possible. Sure, TH may have the better chances now, after this win, but Mark will have to go all the way again, because who knows what Martin will come up with.
