DIVISION 1 GAMES

Alcohol Anonymous against Tottenford Heats can be a very exciting match. However, this week is different, as in 2 weeks, we have the cup final, and TH is in it! So, what we have this week is not exciting at all: Nathan plays the usual strong AA, but Mark is resting a lot of first team TH players, because TH is safe from relegation, and has only 1 priority: the cup! Therefor, the difference between these 2 teams is huge, and it is only because of the fact that both teams play ZD (so, Defense), that the victory for AA is not higher than 3-1

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Druss Legends are the nr. 2 in the league, and they are 1 point behind Jazz Greats. As we all know, next week is the clash between these top 2 teams, and that will most likely decide who will win the div 1 title this season. You can imagine that both Bart and Martijn will be fully prepared for that, and want to play with their very best team. In order to take no risk for next weeks match (you don’t want your best players to get injured or suspended), both Martijn and Bart will probably want to rest some of those good players, as I can imagine that some of them are indeed in need of rest, given the fact that it’s the end of the season. However, how many risk do you want to take this week, to avoid have to take too many risk next week? In Martijns case, I think he the risk he took was too high. This weeks game for DL was an away game against FC Inferno, who are not just a strong team, but in Marco they also have a strong manager. Very difficult game. And even though for FI the season is over, that doesn’t mean that Marco is giving away games. Martijn rested a lot of first team players, and played only 89.75 NSL. That is not nearly enough for a victory against FI! FI apparently could even afford a red card, and still be a lot better. And that of course was enough for a victory: 11-3. And of course, the victory for FI means a loss for DL, who already were 1 point behind JG, so if JG would win this weeks game, it would mean that JG win the title. Nonetheless….I think Martijn has thought about this. Martijn is not stupid, not at all: Martijn knows that JG had to play against TB, and TB is a very strong team. Besides, Jeroen has a grudge against Bart, in many ways. So I think Martijn expected Bart to rest JG against TB as well, to be fully rested for the last clash as well. We will see if Martijn was right……….

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Martijn was right indeed about the fact that Bart wanted to rest his best players for next weeks clash. Martijn was also right (assuming that he indeed think all this) that JG would face a very, very difficult opponent this week, who would try to do everything possible to make Bart suffer. The Boelewieten are the nr. 3 team in the league, and they don’t have that top 3 spot for nothing: the team holds a lot of quality. Jeroen saved his last grudge for this game, to make up for some issues from the past. With a very strong 102 NSL CP team plus a grudge, TB is an opponent to strike fear into any team! I guess Bart saw this coming, but even so, I bet that –being 1 point ahead- Bart knows that next week would be much more important, and that a victory for JG next week would mean that it would not matter at all what this weeks result would be. So, in order to be fully fit next week, Bart rested JG as well. However, for some reason, the “higher forces” decided to be with Bart this week. As expected, TB was much much better than JG. However, TB suffered a red card. Which is the first time Bart was lucky. In spite of that, TB was still a lot better. In fact, they were 14.91 EMP better! Which is exactly 0.09 EMP short of an extra smother shot. Which is the second time Bart was lucky. Nonetheless, the 14.91 EMP still meant 2 smother shots for TB, which of course can still be enough for a victory, in most cases. In spite of the fact that Bart played a NSL 9 GK instead of a NSL 10 goalie, his GK Ruathain proved himself a real hero of the day, saving both TB shots. Which is the third time Bart was lucky. Having saved those 2 shots, it also turned out that JG was awarded a penalty. Which is the fourth time Bart was lucky. TB, unlike JG, DID have a NSL 10 GK in the goal, but the poor chap chose the wrong side of the goal and with that, JG scored. Which is the fifth time Bart was lucky. Add that to the fact that DL lost their game (which indeed means the sixth time Bart was lucky!!), that can only mean one thing: Jazz Greats win the title!! Man, all this thinking that Bart and Martijn have done in the past week, and in the end it doesn’t even matter because one team is lucky and the other isn’t……. Although, on the other side, I have to admit that when it comes down to it, JG did look like the strongest team this season, and I bet that next week both Bart and Martijn will still go all the way, now both their teams are rested. If Bart would be able to win that match, he can prove that it’s not just luck that wins him the title. Oh, and this loss for TB means that Jeroen still has not been able to even the score with JG ?

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

InterQuartile Rangers and Catbel Athletic are 2 teams whose season is already over, as both Terry and Ivo have no prizes left to play for, and more important: they are safe from relegation. Nonetheless, it did not stop both managers from playing a strong side. CA even had a boost left, and when IQ saw 2 players leave the field with a red card, there was no doubt about it: CA was the stronger team, and because they also had a better GK, the 23-5 victory was fair.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Both Apocalypse and Grammar United are in the relegation zone. GU is already relegated, and AP in fact as well, since NW and TJ play against each other this week, which means that at least 2 points will be won by these teams. That makes that only pride was at stake here, but both Martin and Mike proved to have enough of that, because both teams played with a boost. That made things even, but it turned out the only thing even, as AP’s WP was much too strong for GU’s OFF: 26-8

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

NoShaKi WC’98 and The Jazz are teams 9 and 10 in the league, only separated by 1 point! So, this clash against each other may very well be decisive for which team will avoid relegation, as we already know that the last relegation spot will be for one of these 2 teams. Both Vince and Stewart saved something extra for this match (which maybe is the most important match of the season for both NW and TJ), and so NW played a grudge and TJ played a boost. A grudge is even more extra power than a boost, and since NW also had the home advantage, plus played with more NSL, it was all those extra’s added up that made that NW was the better team, and since NW also had the better GK (well, at least in NSL, this game), the victory plus the 3 very important points were very much deserved by NW. So, NW and TJ switch places, and with only 1 match left to play, NW is 2 points ahead of TJ. Which meant that TJ can still turn things around again, only now they don’t have it in their own hand. Will be continued next week!
