DIVISION 2 GAMES

Adirondak Renegades is the Nr. 1 in the league. With only 2 matches left to play, AR is 5 points ahead of the nrs. 2 and 3, and that means of course that a victory this week would bring Don and AR the title. This weeks opponent was OC, a bottom half team, but in spite of that: OC is still very much in the race for a playoffspot, and with Keith, they have an experienced manager, so things would not go easy. Keith played a 93.25 CP, and that led to 117+ EMP. But AR has proven to be a very strong team, they are not at first position for nothing, and playing at home, AR turned out to be even better: their 98.75 ONE play led to almost 140 EMP, without grudges or boosts. 140 EMP? Yep, sounds like div 1 material, and that is exactly where Don and AR are going to be next season, as of course that was enough to bring AR the victory, and with that the 3 points that secure the div 3 title. Congratulations Don, it has been great to follow AR from the moment you took over (what a pitiful team it was!!!), and watch it grow until this landmark. I hope you will continue the success! I bet Keith did not expect to win this game, but it could be that this loss means that he is out of the playoffs. However, let’s first see what the other teams have done.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Englehart Storm and Deo Volente are the nrs. 10 and 11 in div 2. Both teams are in a relegation position, but with 2 matches left to play, they are also 4 (DV) and 5 (ES) points away from the relegation zone. So, with all these teams so close together, nothing has been decided yet. In fact, after we have just seen OC lose their game, the winner of this match would certainly catch OC, and with that climb towards the good side of the relegation line. Neither Derek nor Otto had a boost or grudge left for this important match, so they both went in with just their best possible players. Both teams were not very lucky: ES lost 2 players because of injuries, where DV lost a player with a red card. DV was always a little better. In NSL, in EMP, and in chances. It was only because of the fact that ES’s NSL 7(!) GK was performing so well, that the result after 90 minutes was so close, but the victory for DV was fair, and with that (and the 3 points that go with it) , DV take a huge, huge step towards escaping relegation! For ES, next week will be all or nothing!

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Fanatics United and Newton Heath are the nrs. 7 and 9 on the table, and both teams are very much in the race for the playoffs. They are separated by 2 points (25 for FU and 23 for NH). Even so, a victory could mean a good step towards the playoffs for both teams, after the loss for OC, and the ES-DV result. Brians FU not just had the home advantage, no, Brian also had a boost left, and since they already could play with more NSL, that of course was too much for Robert and NH. The victory for FU was deserved, although I have to say that the 14-0 was not a correct reflection. GK Bayes, the FU goalie has simply miraculous this match, no matter what the NH players tried, not one of them was able to beat him! He saved every shot, and kept a clean sheet for FU!! Great work! With the victory, FU are safe from relegation, and are still very well in the race for the playoffs. NH is out of that race, but they still have to watch out for relegation!

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Excelsior Warren and Defrosted Tunafish are the nrs. 4 and 5 in the league. Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs, but instead of resting players for those playoff matches, both Simon and Claudio went for it, and played their best. In fact, both managers even played a grudge, and that had to be just for the clash itself. Maybe, they wanted to scare each other off, as in the playoffs, it is almost certain that these teams will play against each other. In that case, DT was the scariest, because they turned out to be the better team (also because they were shown a red card much later in the game than EW). The difference was more than 18 EMP, which is a lot in SAEFL, and so the 7-14 in the end was a fair result.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Since the chances were very big that AR was going to win div 2 (and that was exactly what just happened), it was more exciting this week to see what team would be the runner up in div 2, and especially since the nr. 2 and 3 teams, Lisbon United and Point of Napier, played against each other this week, it was of course the match of the week! Both Nuno and Kelly were expected to play a grudge here, and they lived up to those expectations. We saw a very strong LU, playing a 130 EMP CP to counter a very strong 128 EMP WP from PN. Both teams saw a player sent off after a red card (couldn’t handle the pressure, apparently), but I have to admit that that happened much earlier in the game for the LU player. Nonetheless, LU had the better play, and the better EMP. And because they also had the better GK (and because all the luck went to JG this week), it was LU who won the game and the 3 points: 14-10. Because LU already had the better goal difference before this match, Kelly has to hope for a miracle now, to finally reach to that second position. But that requires an amount of luck that you hardly ever see two weeks in a row. So, after the JG game, I am afraid it’s too much to ask for. Nonetheless, we will know it for sure next week.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 24

Dead Scientists are the nr. 6 team in the league, and that already states their only objective this week: defend the playoff spot!! Last week, we still had 6 teams that were fighting for the playoff spot. But after the games so far (and mainly because FU won their game and we saw other teams lose) OC, NH and ES are out of the race for the playoffs, and in fact DV’s chances are only theoretical. Which means that Tims only rival is FU, who were only 1 point behind and already won their game this week, and that means that DS have to win this week to stay ahead. DS play at home against the nr. last this week: England Under 21, who are already relegated. You’d think that would be easy, but it turned out to be completely different! EU are not as weak as their position on the table might make you believe. Really, I think Martin is unlucky that EU did not have more points when he took over, as they are really capapble. On the other hand, DS could not play that strong, as they suffer from quite a number of injured players. That made that EU was the better team, and we could see that in the score after 90 minutes: 1-14. DS drop to the bottom half, and will have to pull a stunt next week to get back to that last playoff spot! For Martin and EU, I bet it’s encouraging to see what EU is capable of, and I think we will really see them in the top of div 3 next season.
