DIVISION 1 GAMES

It’s the last week of the regular season, and there is still a lot at stake for quite a number of teams, like relegation, promotion, or playoffs. The Boelewieten and FC Inferno are not such teams, as for both Jeroen and Marco, all the cards have been played for the season. Both TB and FI played pretty strong teams, and FI won. Anyway, both managers will be more anxious to know what the next aging will bring, than what the outcome of this game will be.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 25

Grammar United have already been relegated for weeks, and now there’s a sudden grudge! Mike can’t help it of course that that grudge hasn’t been played earlier in the season, when it might still have made a difference. And after all, even then it wouldn’t have mattered much apparently, as in this particular game, it did not make a difference either. Alcohol Anonymous was too strong to be surprised: 0-2. With that, plus the fact that TB just lost their game, AA even climb to the third position on the table. Well done Nathan!

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 25

Tottenford Heats are in the cup final, which is next week. So, I bet that nearly all managers would have been very, very surprised if Mark would have played more than 90 NSL. We all know Mark: why take any risk if you don’t need to. And you can’t see he isn’t right about that. As a result of that, Apocalypse finally had an easy victory. Although I can imagine that it will be frustrating to finally start winning matches after you have just officially relegated. Anyway, with these strong players, we will most likely hear some good stories soon from AP, in div 2. We will see some more of TH even sooner of course!

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 25

With the Catbel Athletic vs. NoShaKi WC ’98 match, we have the first match that really is important for at least one of the teams. For CA it’s not that exciting, but NW has still a chance of relegation, as TJ is only 2 points behind them, and we all know that stranger things have happened in SAEFL. For Vince and NW, the best thing to do of course was win this game, as it would mean that they would certainly stay in div 1, no matter what the TJ result would be. However, that looked like a hell of a job, as an away game against CA is always difficult. This week turned out to be no different. CA was much better, and even if Ivo would not have played a boost, it wouldn’t have mattered, as the difference was 25 EMP, and it was only because of the good performance of the NW goalie that the win wasn’t any higher. So, NW have to wait now what TJ have done, to see in what division they will play next season.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 25

What should have been the match of the season, has suddenly become “just one of those games”, after Barts lucky win last week, which made him Champion of div 1. However, there was still something to play for: Pride! Maybe even more after what happened last week. We all remember that both Martijn and Bart had saved a grudge for this match, and even though the title race has already been decided, of course there’s no reason to NOT play it! Both managers of course still had to think about what the opponent would do. Which would either be WP or OFF, for both DL and JG. Would Bart outsmart Martijn, or would Martijn outbart Smart? In the end, both managers chose OFF, and with equal tactics and circumstances, the best team won. Which in this case was JG, who were better in NSL, and also in EMP. The victory was fair, and Bart wasn’t lucky to win the 3 points, so after all, looking at the entire season, maybe this match turns out to be even more important than last weeks match. It did not bring Bart the title, but at least it shows that the fact that he won it was fair.

SAEFL Season 12 WEEK 25

After we have seen NW lose their game against CA, The Jazz –who were 2 points behind- could make their own history by beating InterQuartile Rangers in the very very last game of the season, and pull a Houdini trick that has rarely been shown before (Although I still remember a sweet escape, some years ago….) Stewart played a fine CP with his best possible team in this last match of the league. But he faced an even stronger IQ, and since it hasn’t been that long that IQ is safe from relegation, Terry still saved a boost for this particular match (which makes sense, as a few weeks ago TJ was still a rival in the battle against relegation.). That was too much for TJ, as that IQ turned out to be a lot stronger. So, after NW lost their match, TJ could not take advantage and lost their match as well, so the 2 point difference in NW’s favour remains unchanged. And with all respect, I think that the fact that TJ managed to win promotion last year was a wonderful achievement for both Stewart and TJ, but if you perform “only” 113 EMP in a home match when it really comes down to it, because the game is very important that it decides whether you stay in div 1 or fall back, I suppose you can’t call the relegation a big surprise. Sure, Stewart will have hoped for some kind of surprise, but it just wasn’t there. Not this week. Nonetheless, I think Stewart has done a great job last season, reaching div 1 in the first place, and fighting for it until the very very end. TJ have shown to be a brave team, and I bet it won’t take long until they will be knocking on the door to div 1 again.
