SAEFL CUP FINAL

Of course, cup finals are always special. This year however, the final is even more special, because we have a Division 3 team, Trav Spoodle, who managed to reach the final and face one of the top teams in entire SAEFL, Tottenford Heats. Sure, there is a difference between these teams –as you might expect when a div 3 team faces a div 1 team- but because of the div 3 extra cup spirit, Warren has proven that if you really want something, anything is possible. It was that spirit that frightened Mark. Mark, whose TH of course is a well known cupfighting team, was very disturbed by the thought that TS could take on TH, especially since no grudges or boost are to be played in the cup final. Here, in this match, it turns out that Mark was right to be scared. TS played the usual strong Wingplay, and because of that (and because it was excpected of course) TH could not play their usual strong ZD if they weren’t to give away the cup. So, TH had to fall back to their second tactics, which is CP. It was a very fair match, without any red cards or injuries. In the end, TH was just a little better than, TS, but that difference was very small, only 2.28 EMP. With the rather attacking tactics on both sides, it meant 39 chances for TH, against 36 chances for TS, and with a NSL 10 goalie on each side, all chances were open. It could have gone either way, but in the end it was TH who did keep that small difference in their favor, not just in EMP, not just in chances, but also in goals: 21-17. So, once again –in fact for the 3rd time- it is TH to win the cup, and I suppose that many would have expected Mark and TH to win this final, but I bet a lot of managers will not have expected this outcome to be so close, as with a little luck, Warren would have got away with it. Nonetheless, and in spite of the loss, Warren and TS have had a wonderful season, and showed an excellent performance, and I can only say “Chapeau!” Of course, there are also congratulations to Mark and TH. It is no coincidence if you win your 4th big prize in 5 seasons, somehow you must do something right ?
