DIVISION 3 Play Off GAMES

Both African Selection and Melchester Rovers were teams that were playing in division 1 not so very long ago. So, after having played in div 3 for 1 season now, I can imagine that both Colin and Bruce want to get back to at least division 2. Much like in the league matches, neither manager wanted to give away anything, and both teams played it hard. The AS defense, in this case, was just a little too strong for the MR attack, and smothered all efforts. As a result of that, we didn’t see any MR chances. On the other side, the AS defense was so strong, that they were awarded no less than 2 smother shots. Unfortunately, the AS players are better in defending than in scoring, as both chances were missed. So, when the score was still 0-0 after 90 minutes, a winner had to be decided by penalty shots. Now the AS players turned out to be in better form, because not a single shot was missed, which is not what you can say for the unlucky CF Mido. And that meant that AS beat MR in a lottery that is called penalty series. Too bad for Bruce, but I hope to see MR back in the top half next season, so he has another try. Colin and AS do what Len from SH already hoped for, according to his press release: they make it to the Playoff final!

AS’s opponent in the final would be the winner of the clash between Fantastic Eleven against Trav Spoodle. Trav Spoodle you say? Yep, the same Trav Spoodle that is in the cup final. Since it is the end of the season, in fact the very last week, you can imagine that the best players in every team (and especially in a team that played in both cup and league until the very end) will be tired, and have low SP. That makes that a manager has to make a choice, and in this case, the choice to make was Warrens: go for cup or playoffs? You can hardly call that a choice of course. Go for a major trophy, or go for a nice sportive achievement. Of course Warren goes for the cup, and that makes that TS plays only 64.75 NSL. Of course, that means giving away this match, but Warren did not have any other possibility in my opinion. Clive won’t mind of course, but if you think that Clive and FE reach the final as some kind of present, you better look at the stats and think again. Fantastic Eleven were the nr. 3 team last season, and with that the highest ranked team in the playoffs. And Clive showed that that was no coincidence. With a strong WP, reaching more than 122 EMP, FE gave away a classy performance, and I wonder if TS would have been able to beat FE and make it to the final if they wouldn’t have been in the cup final and would have been able to go all the way. You can never tell of course, but at least I expect that the cards would have been better for FE anyway, and with that, FE really deserved to be in this final. Well done Clive!
