DIVISION 1 GAMES

The match between The Boelewieten and Alcohol Anonymous is the match between the numbers 2 and 3 on the league table. Sure, there has only been played 1 match, so the current rankings do not mean much yet, but since this is a match between TB and AA, I think you can call this a top match anyway. And it’s not just me who’s thinking that. Both Jeroen and Nathan considered this match important enough to play a boost resp. a grudge, making clear that they did not want to lose this one. They were both unlucky. Nathan was unlucky to see FB Edinburgh leave the field with a red card after already 10 minutes, and Jeroen was unlucky to that none of the 2 chances that he created, because of a 10 EMP surplus, were scored. And of course, one teams bad luck was the other teams fortune, and adding up everything, I guess you can say that 0-0 is not a bad result for this game. Although both Jeroen and Nathan probably think different.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 3

InterQuartile Rangers are the leaders of the table, and will they stay nr. 1 after 2 matches? The answer is no. In the away game against Grammar United, they weren’t able to score, and in fact they can be happy to steal a point at Olympic Park. Michael en Terry played with almost equally strong teams (only 0.25 NSL difference!), but the home advantage plus the best mix of good players on bonus positions (read: DS Brant in a TS tactics), made that GU reached 8 EMP more, and that resulted in 2 chances. However, GU were unfortunate not to score any, and thus, the game ended in 0-0. Sure, Michael will be used to seeing 0-0 results, but in this case I think he won’t be too happy, as there was more in it for him. After we already saw that TB-AA ended in 0-0, Terry will be happy to see that this point means that IQ continues their stay at the top of the table. In points that is. Only a team that wins big, and already won 1 point in the first week, can pass IQ on the table on goal difference.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 3

After having seen already 2 matches end in a 0-0 stalemate, will the 3rd match this week show us any goals? Up front, you cannot be too sure of that, as the next game is between Tottenford Heats and NoShaKi WC’98, and not just Mark is known for his strong defense, but lately Mike has become a strong defense player too. In this particular game, we saw TH play CP and NW play ZD, with almost equally strong NSL teams. TH was better in EMP though (things like home advantage and stuff, you know), and that resulted in 2 chances for TH. However, Mark was unlucky to see both Prutshouwers (what’s in a name….) and Cahill miss the chance, leaving TH without any goals. But that was not all of the bad luck for TH this week. O no, it was even worse! On top of that, NW were awarded a penalty. And unlike the TH CM’s, NW’s Torres had no trouble finding the net, stealing the victory from Stubborn Park. TH is still without victory and goals, while NW is among the long list of teams leading the table with 4 points out of 2 matches. Mark will feel robbed. Mike will be happy.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 3

The next match is between Catbel Athletic and FC Inferno. In week 1, we saw the reigning champion, CA, play 0-0. Will they win their first league match, or score their first goal this week against FI? The answer is no. CA and FI played almost equally strong teams, and if it weren’t for the red card for CM Berry, CA would indeed have been somewhat better (once again, home advantage and stuff….), and probably would have scored, and who knows where that might have lead…. However, the thing is that Berry DID receive that red card, and because of that, the difference between CA and FI in EMP was too small for smother shots. Bad luck for CA. ***Flashback to the previous match*** But that was not all of the bad luck for CA this week. O no, it was even worse! On top of that, FI were awarded a penalty. And unlike the TH CM’s, FI’s Garotinho had no trouble finding the net, stealing the victory from Union Ground. CA is still without victory and goals, while FI jumps up the table after their first win. Ivo will feel robbed. Marco will feel happy. *** End of flashback*** Damn…..the chances missed by TB are suddenly to be seen in a whole new perspective…. I smell a conspiracy against the dutch managers here!!!

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 3

After The Jazz won promotion to div 1, we finally had the All Jazz Game back (we had to miss it since JG promoted to div 1 some years ago.): The Jazz against Jazz Greats. In this years edition, the difference between these 2 teams was big, very big. In fact, the difference was so big that it somehow hid the fact that even JG was victim of this weeks conspiracy against the dutch managers, after the red card for W Castelen. However, already in NSL the difference between TJ and JG was almost 9, and that only increased when it came to NSL. Stewart needs to find a few players to make a strong top 11. He already has quite a number of good players, with AS Kirk of course as the main man. However, against that freak player, TJ also has a NSL 7 CM, and that is what will cost points. But the season is still very long, we have 20 matches left, so there’s a lot of time to develop. Bart makes up for the unfortunate loss of points in the first match, and with this win, he is also on that long list of teams with 4 points out of 2 matches. However, JG has a +8 goal difference now, so he will be in the top I think.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 3

The last match in div 1 is between Druss Legends and Apocalypse. Martijn is the first manager who manages to escape the conspiracy, and we can immediately see where that leads: a big win! No wonder that those dutchies are feared for their capacities!! (well, and Bart because of his body odour of course…..). DL against AP promised to be the most exciting match in div 1 this week, as both Martijn and Martin are famous for their attacking WP tactics. This week, they lived up to that expectation, and we could witness a thrilling game, with high EMP, lots of chances, and lots of goals on both sides. In this particular match (once again, I suppose because of home advantage and stuff….), DL was a little better, not just in EMP, but also in chances, and eventually in goals. That is why the victory for DL can be called fair. On the other hand, I think that chances are big that AP would have won this game if it were their home game, so if both teams are equally strong in the second half of the season, Martin can get back at Martijn. Because of the 9 goals difference in this match, I think - if I do the math right - that DL is the new leader in division 1.
