DIVISION 1 GAMES

After the first 2 matches have been played, there are 6 teams leading the table with 4 points, which means that the entire top half of the league is leading! Alcohol Anonymous is one of those teams, and this week will prove if they remain in the lead, or turn out to be a midtable team for now. This weeks opponent is The Jazz, who unfortunately are the only team without points so far, in division 1. This week we see both Nathan and Stewart picking a ZD tactics, and that makes it perfectly clear to see the difference between these teams. That difference is 34 EMP, and of course that is huge! Sure, AA has home advantage, and TJ was unlucky to see AS Thundercats get a red card, but even without that, the difference still would have been huge. In fact, TJ can consider it a positive thing that ZD tactics do not create that many chances, and that GK Krupa was in great shape. Now, the result in the end is 2-0, and that doesn’t look as bad as the difference actually was. Nonetheless, the win for AA was deserved, and AA is the first of the 6 leaders to secure a win and stay in the lead. Who will follow? TJ are still waiting for their first points, but the season is still long.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

FC Inferno and Grammar United are 2 of the teams in the bottom half, so they have less than 4 points after 2 matches. In a direct confrontation, Marco decided to counter the TS that Michael was expected to choose, with…..TS! Another tactics head-to-head game, and once again with defense. It will be no surprise that in this game too, there weren’t many goals. Marco thought that playing a boost would give him the extra NSL and EMP to beat GU, and although that boost made that FI was better than GU, it was not enough for a smother shot. No, this match was decided by luck. FI were awarded a penalty, and when AM Garotinho made no mistake kicking that in, that turned out to be the only reason that this game did not end 0-0. So, Marco is lucky, where Michael will feel sad, as both teams were equally strong in a match that neither side deserved to win nor lose.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

The Jazz Greats are one of the 6 leaders, are they able to keep up with AA and stay in the lead? Well, that would be a tough job, as JG have to play against Tottenford Heats this week. TH were considered to be at least an outsider for the title this season, but so far, they weren’t very lucky, and that is why we find TH at the bottom half of the table. Will they be able to do something about that against JG? Yep, tough game for both teams, and not just because both teams are good, no, this match also gets an extra angle because it’s a dutch clash! Will Bart beat Mark? Will Mark beat Bart? Bart thought to outsmart Mark. Since WP is JG’s strongest weapon, he expected TH to play OFF. And by playing a cunning TS instead of that WP, Bart hoped to crush Marks anti-tactics. He even played a boost to take no chances. But Mark is not stupid of course, and likes those mind-games too. Mark knows that Bart has all these thoughts in his head (amongst other things), and decided not to risk too much on OFF. No, since TH is a strong ZD/CP team, Mark decided that CP would be an excellent tactics. When playing CP, you can never be surprised by Bart-moves, and even if Bart would still play WP, CP would be a very very useful tactics against that. The result in the end is that both JG and TH played with strong teams, almost equally strong, and since it was TS against CP, both defenses were totally in control, and no chances were created. So, the match ended where it started off: 0-0. 1 point for both, and although that is a fair result, I think both Mark and Bart feel like losing 2.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

A clash between InterQuartile Rangers and Druss Legends, means a clash between the numbers 1 and 3 on the table. Only one of them would be able to keep up with AA, and stay in the lead. (and in case this match would end a draw, neither team would be in the lead of course). Martijn wanted to help faith a little, and played a boost. And of course, that made a difference. A little. Terry was unlucky to see his FB Karaxure leave the field with a red card already early in the match. That made an even bigger difference. But what made the biggest difference in this game, was the tactics for both teams. DL played their strong WP, and what IQ played against that was MM. Now, MM is a defensive tactics, but it is not the best choice against WP, not by far. Not much harm was done against the DL attack, so that remained pretty strong, and since MM didn’t give that many bonus EMP to IQ themselves, the difference was big: 31 chances against 4. It is only because of the goalies that the 12-3 in the end does not look as bad as it actually was. DL stay in the lead (and I think, on goal difference, even at the nr. 1 position), while IQ fall back to a midtable position.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

Both Apocalypse and Catbel Athletic, the reigning title holders, are to be found in the bottom half of the table. Both Martin and Ivo will think that that is not where they belong and I guess they both want to do something about that. Well, this game is the best opportunity to do something about that at short notice of course. However, neither Martin nor Ivo wanted to spend a boost on it, hoping the regular tactics would be strong enough to win, or at least not lose. Martin played the usual WP. Of course, in your home game, you always try to play your best tactics. Ivo countered that with OFF, and that turned out to be just good enough an antitactic to beat AP. CA was just a little better, but that was enough for 1 shot more: 5 for CA against 4 for AP. Since both GK’s saved 2 chances, CA win their first match this season: 3-2. Both AP and CA have 4 points now, and are in that large midtable group.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

In the last match this week, we see NoShaKi WC98 against The Boelewieten, and that means another clash between 2 of the current 6 leaders of the table. Only one of them (if any) has a chance to stay up there with AA and DL. Jeroen showed more determination to achieve that than Mike, given the fact that he played a boost. But that was not the reason that TB beat NW. Neither was the red card for DM Alonso. The difference between these 2 teams was just too big, and even without that red card or the boost, TB would have won it anyway: the 7 NSL difference only increased in EMP, and there was no stopping TB this week. Not by NW at least. So, TB join AA and DL, and the number of league leaders is reduced from 6 to 3. NW are in that midtable pack now, but with still 19 matches to play, everything is still possible. And not just for NW, but for all 12 teams.
