DIVISION 2 GAMES

Adirondak Renegades and Point of Napier were in the playoffs last year, and this year they must be capable of doing that again. Since both teams have 3 points out of the first 2 matches, a win was needed to at least be in a position –for now- that wins you a playoff spot. Both Don and Kelly did not give in to any adjustments, and played their own usual (strongest) tactics: AR played ONE, and PN played WP. AR turned out to be the strongest team, and that difference was 9 EMP. Since both teams played attacking, this match knew a lot of chances, and because of the difference, AR were given 36 chances against 29 for PN. Given the fact that AR had the better GK (9.5 against 9), you’d expect this an easy win for AR. However, this is SAEFL, you know, the game where anything is possible. (Just like in real life football, actually). For some reason, the PN goalie performed much, much better, and after 90 minutes, it turned out that AR scored 21 goals, and PN…..1 goal more! 3 unexpected points for PN, who stay at a comfortable position in the top half, while AR drops and has to win some matches to get back to at least a playoff spot.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

After the first 2 matches, both Englehart Storm and England U-21 are still without points. This match for sure will change that. If even only for one of them. By playing a boost, it looked like the ES management had their minds on winning this home match. They gave it all their best, and against a EU team that fielded “only” 82.93 NSL, they succeeded, even in spite of a red card for CM Hegarty. Mike tried something new by playing WP, and I like that. It’s always good to think in more than 1 direction, and well, the fact that he has a NSL 12 CF is an excellent excuse to try and play WP. Unfortunately –for him that is-, it turned out not to be enough. Yet! Of course, it takes more than a NSL 12 CF to make a good WP team. But in this case, the weakest spots in the EU team, in a WP scenario, are the Wingers. And since everyone knows that Wingers are not too hard to obtain, who knows what lies ahead for EU.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

Fanatics United, who climbed up from div 3, are leading the table in div 2 after two matches. Will they maintain their winning streak? This weeks match wouldn’t be easy, as FU were to meet Oaklake City, who fell down from div 1, and still without points after 2 matches, destined to do something about it, even if only because OC simply has too good a team to be in problems for 2 seasons in a row. However, Keith was unlucky. Unlucky that already in the very first minute, his Star player Wictoria couldn’t keep his nerves and lost his temper, causing him to take an early shower. But more important (as in the end, let’s face it: the red card didn’t even matter) was that he had to play an away game against FU this week. Last season, Brian already showed that FU was too good for div 3, and only a couple of weeks later, it looks like FU is going to be too strong for div 2 as well. Can that be true? Well, there are still a lot of matches to be played, so there’s still time to prove a constant level over a long period, with a great number of matches. Nonetheless, the start is promising for FU. OC on the other side are down at the bottom of the table, and that might even be a bigger surprise. However, OC will have easier matches than this one coming up, so now is the time to prove where they really should be in the league table.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

In the previous match, I stated that Keith was unlucky. Well, he might have been unlucky, but he would have lost the game anyway. Without a doubt. So maybe he wasn’t actually that unlucky. Do you want to know what UNLUCKY (yes, in capitols) really is? Have a look at Otto and his team, Deo Volente. DV was still without points after the first 2 matches. And although this weeks game was hard, being an away game against Excelsior Warren, who were still in div 1 last season, Otto did not want to give in and went for the victory. He played a strong team and a boost, and crossed his fingers. In NSL, the difference was not that big, but everyone who pays attention knows that DV is one of the strongest EMPing teams, to their NSL. The first unlucky moment for DV was the red card for AS BossUn. Nonetheless, that didn’t stop DV from being the better team. They had the best EMP, and created more chances. Since DV also had a better GK (9.5 against 9), you’d say that they still would beat EW without too many trouble. Wrong. The EW goalie was the hero of the day, saving shot after shot, and after 90 minutes, EW kept the 3 points at Monument Park with a 11-9 victory. Too bad for DV, who are still without points after 3 matches. On the other hand, we should not forget that Simon has a pretty strong team, and that you don’t just beat EW like that. Sure, DV was a little better, but the difference wasn’t that big. EW EMPed over 120, and that is a very respectable performance in div 2, that can win you quite a number of matches. And that is just what I expect EW to do this season.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

Dead Scientists are one of the four teams that are still without loss of points after 2 matches. We already saw FU win their third match. Will DS keep up with them? This weeks match is a home game against Defrosted Tunafish, one of the new kids in town in div 2. Both Tim and Claudio played strong teams. And not just strong, but attacking too, so the spectators were shown a thrilling match. It was the home advantage that made that DS was just a little better. The difference in EMP wasn’t that big, and also in chances, DS was the better team (14 against 11), but even then everything was still possible. Both GK’s were equally strong (both 9), but it was also the DS goalie that had the better form, supported by the home crowd I think. The victory for DS is deserved, and with that DS join FU at the top of the table with a 100% score after 3 matches. However, the 11-3 makes that the difference between these 2 teams looks bigger than it in fact was. With DT EMPing over 120 in an away game, without playing even a boost, we still can expect a lot in the rest of the season, so watch out for them!

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 4

I already mentioned that there were 4 teams leading the table after 2 matches, with 6 points. We already saw 2 of them in action, and in this last match, we see the other 2 teams: Lisbon United against Newton Heath. You could expect this to be a top match, a clash between two teams at the top of the table, both wanting to stay there, giving their best, and serving us a great and exciting match. Well, this week was different. Nuno indeed played his best team. And we already noticed that LU has a very very strong team this season. The fact that once again he EMPed over 130, without even playing a boost, says enough. (Both managers saved their boosts and grudges by the way). But on the other side, Robert thought that this away match would be difficult for NH, and decided to save his energy for other matches, the ones that are easier to win. Could be a wise decision in the end, I mean, your players do need their rest, and it takes a good manager to know when to pick those matches. Anyway, Robert played his B-squad, and it will be no surprise that that wasn’t good enough to trouble LU. The 13-0 victory was of course a good reflection of the difference in strength in this match. LU join DS and FU at the top of the table, while NH is right behind them, at the top of the midtable, only 1 victory away, but with a fully rested team!
