DIVISION 1 GAMES

Tottenford Heats are still waiting for their first victory this season, and with 2 points out of 3 matches, they are in the bottom half. This weeks opponent for them would be FC Inferno. FI has 6 points out of the first 2 matches, and is at the top of the table. Looks like a big difference, but the truth is that both teams are actually equally strong. Marks ZD against Marco’s TS showed a defensive and yes, I dare to say boring match. Mark was a little unlucky to see DM Lucias leave the pitch early with a red card. That cost him more than 5 EMP, which means it missed him a smother shot. If TH would have used it just as accurate as they penalty they were given, it would not have mattered, because they missed that. Now we’ll never know. What we do know is that if any team deserved to win this one, it would be TH, but I think I can live with this draw.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 6

The match between Catbel Athletic and Alcohol Anonymous is the clash between the 2 teams that were fighting for the title last year. (Sorry Jeroen ?) In this year’s table, it looks like AA is still a title candidate, while CA is rebuilding, but is still in the top half. Nonetheless, the differences between CA and AA aren’t that big this season either, although if there is any difference, it’s in AA’s favour this season, where it was for CA in the previous season. In this weeks match, we can see that Nathan plays defensive, and that defense is too strong for Ivo’s CP. AA is slightly better, but the difference is not even 2 EMP. Should have been a tie, but AA were lucky enough to get a penalty, and since Essiens focus was a lot better than Cutters focus in the previous match, it is AA who walk away from Union Ground with 3 points. Nathan will be happy to win here, in this tough away game against CA. TB and DL will have to wait and see if they can manage to do the same. Ivo will be unhappy with this result, as a draw would have been fair as well, but hey, let’s hope luck changes in other matches. At least CA will not (have to ) worry about being in trouble yet, as with the 134 EMP, they will win other matches.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 6

The Jazz and Apocalypse are the numbers 11 and 12 at the bottom of the table. And although it is still very early in the season, I think that both Stewart and Martin will know that this is a match that you better not lose. However, it was only Stewart who decided to really do something about that, when he played a grudge. Looking back at how the match developed, you can say that this was an excellent example of a grudge well spent! The grudge made that TJ was just as strong as AP (the difference was 0.47 EMP in TJ’s favour in fact). That resulted in 29 chances each, of which each team scored exactly 12 goals. It was only because of the penalty given to TJ, that this match knew a winner: the 13-12 after 90 minutes meant the first victory plus the first points for TJ in Division 1. Martin would have won this one for sure if it weren’t for that grudge, so good thinking Stewart!

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 6

After 3 matches, Druss Legends is leading the table, with 7 points (and the best goal difference). Now we have already seen AA (one of the other 2 leaders of the table, with 7 points) win their game this week, will DL be able to keep up with them? Everybody knows that Martijn has a very strong WP team with DL. Was that something that Mike anticipated, when he came to the Colosseum with NoShaKi WC98. Most likely, Mike did not focus on the opponent, but put his trust in the strength of his own NW. Instead of playing OFF, he played CP, and well, you can’t blame him, because CP is another very good antitactics against WP, so if that’s your strongest tactics, you can take a chance on winning the match by playing your own strongest game. But in this case it turned out to be the wrong choice. DL was much, much better, the difference in EMP was 15! And it is only because of the good performance of GK Kariba that the result in the end made it look like this game was exciting and close. It wasn’t, not by far! DL stay in the lead, while NW stays at the bottom of the mid-table with 4 points.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 6

The third of the three leaders after 3 weeks, is The Boelewieten. Already last season, Jeroen was (and stayed) very close behind AA and CA in their fight for the title, and it appears that this season, he wants nothing less. This week, in the home game against IQ, Jeroen made a strategical smart move by resting a couple of his best players, and making up for that by playing a grudge. That was a clever decision. InterQuartile Rangers is a strong enough team, and you cannot afford to rest your best players against him without having to pay a price for it. However, in this case, it was just enough to win relatively easy, and still have quite a rested roster. (Which was necessary of course, after going for that place in the Inter-EFL cup. Too bad for Terry, but the victory for TB was fair. I don’t even know if he counted on a win, but I can imagine he will have expected this match to be tough. IQ remain on 4 points after 4 games, just like NW and CA, while TB stay in the lead with 10 points along with AA and DL.

SAEFL SEASON 12 WEEK 6

When you look at the result of the match between Grammar United and Jazz Greats, you’d expect that this has been a typical GU game. With the strong defense, GU matches usually end in 0-0, a 1-0 victory, or a 1-0 defeat. Just looking at that result, this game was no exception. However, a closer look lears that the rest of the game was different. Sure, Mike played the usual defense, and that was very strong, once again. But on the other side, Bart played an impressive WP squad, with 3 Freaks, and near 143 EMP in an away game!! JG might nog be leading the table, with “only” 5 points out of the first 3 matches, but on the other hand, that is just 2 points away from the top, so do we have yet another title candidate here? We just may have. At least it makes this season even more interesting. GU drop to second last position with this loss, in spite of the 136 EMP. So Mike better put some hope out of that, as 136 is nothing less than a good performance.
