Inter EFL - SAEFL vs DESL

The first Inter EFL match ever, is the clash between the SAEFL champion and the Cupwinner and number 4 in DESL. An easy win for Catbel Athletic, you’d think? Think again! Ivo played with a pretty strong team, but not his very best. While Clive on the other hand, played the strongest possible Sports Fanatic team. That wasn’t even what made the biggest difference: what was really decisive, was the fact that Clive assigned a Captain, and Ivo didn’t . Stupid mistake, but to be honest, I think even without that mistake, SF still would have been the better team. Maybe if both teams would have played their very best (and without mistakes J), this game could have been exciting. But this was just an easy win for SF, who reach the semi-finals with this victory and will play against the winner of the TB vs. SP game.

In the second Inter EFL game ever, we see Alcohol Anonymous, the runner up in SAEFL, fight Living Colour, the number 3 in DESL. This match could be a little more exciting you’d think, but it wasn’t. Ivo fielded no less than 10 NSL more than Nathan, and since both AA and LC are great teams, you already know that on this level, that is too much a difference to catch up with. It’s not that Nathan did not take this game seriously, the fact that he played his Freak DS shows that: AA played a strong team. But on the other hand, AA is still in both the race for the title and the SAEFL cup, so you can’t blame Nathan for having to rotate a couple of players. Ivo on the other hand, has nothing else to fight for with LC, as the DESL season is over, so he could play his strongest team. And let’s face it: if you want to beat the strongest possible LC, it doesn’t matter if you’re a SAEFL or DESL team, you got to play your strongest team as well if you want a chance on winning the game. LC are through to the semi-finals, and will play against the winner of the next match: IQ-SD.

The match between the DESL runner up (well, looking at the 1st season that is), Slash Dot, and the SAEFL cup winner, InterQuartile Rangers, was a little more exciting than the previous 2 matches, if only because here we saw a lot more chances and goals. But looking at the result after 90 minutes, the outcome was more or less the same: Peter was able to play with the best possible SD, and that was too much for IQ who are still playing in the League, the Cup, and the Inter EFL cup. After having seen these 3 matches in a row, you can see that it’s not just a coincidence: 3 top DESL teams beating 3 top SAEFL teams. DESL teams are better? No, they just have the advantage that they have nothing left to play for except the Inter EFL cup, while in SAEFL, the teams have three quarters of the season left to play. I hope that when the next Inter-EFL cup will be held, both DESL and SAEFL are at or about the same stage of the season, so we will be able to see the teams fight each other under the same conditions. SD are through to the semi-finals by the way, and in those semi-finals, they will face their old arch enemy LC. It’s nice to see these big teams fight each other for a place in the final.

Will we have an all DESL Semi-finals? No, we won’t, because thanks to Jeroen and The Boelewieten, the SAEFL honour is saved with a 1-0 victory over the DESL champion, Sharpe. TB already was the winner of the playoffs, so Jeroen already proved to be very ambitious in this Inter-EFL cup. And that ambition was too much for Otto and his Sharpe team Both SP and TB played a defensive ZD, so we didn’t see an attacking game. TB’s ZD however, was a lot better, around 7 EMP, and that was enough for a smother shot. No mistake was made, and that meant a deserved 1-0 victory for TB, who make it to the final and face SF there. Will TB stand a chance in that semi final, and play for the championship, or will we have an all DESL final? Stay tuned until week 11, and we’ll see what happens!!
