DIVISION 2 GAMES

Both teams are in tough fights, DV for a playoff spot, EW to avoid relegation. DV got much the better of the fight with a comfortable victory that will hold their playoff spot for another week. With the tight bunching for playoff spots, it may help their standing. EW faces dropping into the relegation zone, hurt this match by a sending off, a weak captain, and an away match.

Deo Volente and Excelsior Warren are the numbers 6 (DV) and 9 on the table. 6 points separate them, so with 5 matches left to play (including this one), EW needed to win this one in order to stay in the race for the playoffs, otherwise they’re out. However, DV performed better, and it was obvious that the 25+ EMP difference was not just because of the red card for DM Massena. Because of that difference, the 20-7 victory for DV after 90 minutes was a logic result, and with that, DV win 3 important points for a playoff spot, while EW is out of that race now.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 21

I haven’t written Div 2 comments in quite awhile, but it looks like almost all matches are important. This match, the managers would obviously agree as they both played grudges and rewarded us with an excellent match. The shots were close, with AP actually having a small advantage, but FE GK E. Fast, the stronger of the two GK, had the better match (which definitely doesn’t always happen in SAEFL). FE gains an important 3 pts, leaping over EW and out of the relegation zone. AP stays in the thick of the fight for a playoff spot.

Apocalypse against Fantastic Eleven is the match between the numbers 5 and 10, but looking at both managers throwing in grudgecards, you’d think they’d be fighting for the title! The home advantage made that AP was just a little better (only 1.71 EMP, of which the influence of the red card for Montolive was no more than 0.51 EMP). However, with a difference this small, it all comes down to the performance of the goalies, especially in an attractive, attacking match like this, in which both teams play WP. That was indeed what made the difference: AP’s goalie was NSL 9, and FE’s goalie was NSL 10, and that led to a 23-17 victory for FE. FE climb out of the relegation zone (at EW’s expense), while AP drop a position, and see DV climb to 5th position.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 21

SG holds the top playoff spot, and still has a slim chance at the second place automatic promotion spot. They considered this an important match, playing a grudge. SG was rewarded as this match gave them 3 pts, and helps make up some of the goal differential they need to reach the second spot. DT played a boost, but it was definitely not enough. They remain just outside the playoffs looking in, out by a slim margin.

Smoking Guns is on 3rd position, 8 points behind the leader. Will that gap be too big to still be in the race for the title? Well, of course that also depends on what SH will do, but at least SG know that they have to win their own matches. In order to win the match against Defrosted Tunafish, the number 7 on the table and with that a team that is also in the race for the playoffs, they threw in a grudge, just to make sure they won this match. That grudge turned out to be a very good idea, as DT had spent a boost on this match, hoping to surprise SG and win important points to obtain a top half position. But of course, SG’s grudge more that countered that, and with a massive 135.88 EMP (only 3 div 1 teams got higher!), they crushed DT: 22-6! This victory and the 3 points mean that, especially since they played against the nr. 7 on the table, that at least we can consider SG to have reached the playoffs. It might even be a step towards something more, but in that case, we need to wait what SH and FU have done……

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 21

This is a match I wouldn’t expect much from, so I was pleasantly surprised. FU is only two points from the top of the table, while GU is facing probable relegation. With GK D. GinJr leading the way, GU picks up an away point from a very good side and keep alive their slim hopes of avoiding relegation. FU will miss the two points in their chase for the Div 2 title, but the one pt will help in their fight to hang onto the automatic promotion spot.

Well, good news for SG, as FU lose points here! In their home game against Grammar United, the number 11, Fanatics United may have been a little better, but since GU had a better goalie (even though the difference wasn’t that big), the score after 90 minutes was 5-5. FU did not play a very bad team, but we know that they can do better. Could it be that they maybe underestimated their opponent? Not sure here, but at least it looks like GU is not performing like you’d expect from the nr. 11. Anyway, FU lose important points in their race for the title, and besides that they also see SG coming nearer, so they also have to watch out for their second position. Although they are of course still 4 points ahead. For GU, this outcome may be a nice surprising result, but since it “only “ gives 1 point, it is not enough yet –not by far!- to escape the relegation zone.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 21

SH are the Division leaders, and with the draw by FU, have a change to increase their lead from 2 to 4 pts, a very significant difference. And SH is up to the challenge. Even with a sending off, their strong attack is enough to gain a comfortable victory. TJ’s task now is to avoid relegation. While gaining no piints didn’t help, playing 84 nsl should have allowed them to rest players for future battles.

Stannington Historical do what FU failed to do. They won their match, and with that they stay in the lead. And they stay there comfortable! Len even threw in a boost just in case, and looking at the red card for W. Griffith you might even think that that was a nice compensation, but even without that boost, I think SH would have beaten The Jazz anyway. TJ have a nice team, but not good enough to stop SH’s attack. With that, SH is now 5 points ahead of the nr. 2, so they will be happy with the result. For TJ, much like EW, I’m afraid this loss will mean that they are out of the race for the playoffs, and the only goal for the rest of the season will be trying to avoid relegation.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 21

NH is having a strong season, with a very good chance at a playoff spot and a very slight chance at second place. This match certainly helps their hold on a playoff spot and will make the rest of the season a lot of fun. OC looks destined for third Division, where they can continue to rebuild for their race back up the Divisions.
