DIVISION 1 GAMES

Alcohol Anonymous are a midtable team this year, probably already rebuilding for next season. However, in a home match against Point of Napier, the nr. 11 on the table, you don’t expect Nathan to forget about this season. Not if you know that AA can still finish in the top half of the table. That is why AA played a boost, and that did it for AA. Well, that and the red card for Etcheverry. AA was almost 32 EMP better, and that is a big difference. The 8-0 after 90 minutes was just a logic result. For PN, this means that their relegation is official. Too bad for Kelly, although I guess that this will not be a surprise. Not this week.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 23

Druss Legends against Catbel Athletic is a top half match, as we see the nr. 4 against the nr. 6. But even more than that, this match is a clash between 2 dutch managers, and it shows: we see 1 Grudge and 1 boost. It was the Grudge that beat the boost this week. Looking at all the stats and numbers, I guess it’s safe to say that both DL and CA would have been almost equally strong without any extra’s here. It was Martijns Grudge that put more extra on top of his performance, than Ivo’s grudge. And although the difference after 90 minutes wasn’t even that big (17-13), it was of course enough for a victory. With that, DL remain in a good league position, while CA drop back to the bottom half of the table, after AA’s loss. And maybe, just maybe, Ivo can be a little disappointed that DL’s 8.25 Goalie performed almost just as good as CA’s own 10 GK. (60% vs.57%). Oh well…….

InterQuartile Rangers vs. The Boelewieten means THE top match in div 1 this week, as we have the nr. 3 playing at home against the nr. 1. IQ however, even with 4 matches left to play (including this one), are already out of the race for the championship: they are 13 points behind TB. However, that doesn’t mean that Terry would want to give this match away (and that is not what Marco hopes either!) Without going all the way, IQ played a pretty strong side. But since Jeroen wisely considered an away game against the nr. 3 rather tough, he played his strongest side plus a grudge, and with that he overpowered IQ: 22-11. The difference was more than 30 EMP, and that is a lot in in away game against the nr. 3 of div 1, who is not resting his 12.5 NSL freak. It demonstrates that TB is the nr. 1 team this season, and even though nothing has been decided yet, with 3 matches left to play (well, unless FI lose this week), I guess that TB will not be caught anymore.

The following match shows the strength of playing ZD: Tottenford Heats, the nr. 9 on the table, are not really safe from relegation yet. This week, they play at home against a strong side: Adirondak Renegades, the nr. 5. Don played AR’s favourite tactics, ONE, with no less than 99 NSL. On top of that, he played a grudge, to make sure that this match would be won. Mark on the other hand, played the usual (for TH) Zonal Defense, with 95 NSL. Without any boost or grudge. And then, after 45 minutes, he saw his striker leave the pitch with a red card. Which means that TH had to play half a match with 1 player less. Now, of course that meant that AR was better. Quite a lot better: the difference was 9.36 EMP. However, with ZD, that means no less than 1 smother shot. And since B. Artswish (what’s in a name!) missed that shot, it means that the game ended 0-0. That proves the strength of ZD. It can win you points if you really need them. Even if your opponent is a lot better. However, before you start to think too much of ZD: sure, it can make that you don’t lose matches in which your opponent is a lot better. But it can also make that you don’t win matches in which you are a lot better yourself.

After we have just seen TB win their match, FC Inferno definitely needed to win their own match, in order to still have that small chance on staying in the race for the championship. And in their home match against Lisbon United, they made no mistake. Marco played a strong defense (98.75 TS), and that was simply too much for Nuno’s LU to cope with. Oh well, I would not have expected it any other way, as of course LU is saving the best players for the 2nd semi-final match. And with that, this match and its result was just a formality: 8-0. FI remain in 2nd postion, 7 points behind, with 3 matches left now. While LU was already relegated. Next match.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 23

The last match this week is actually pretty interesting. Where PN and LU are the first 2 teams to relegate, and where a lot of other teams are already safe from relegation, it is still not sure what team will be the 3rd team to drop from division 1. On positions 8, 9 and 10, we have 3 teams fighting to stay in div 1. On 8th place we have NW , On 9th we have TH and on 10th position there is JG. Now, the differences between these teams seem rather big, but we already saw TH win only 1 point, and now JG and NW play against each other. Who knows what might happen in those last crazy weeks. At least Bart can make those last weeks even more crazy than they are already, as his JG manages to beat Vince’s NW this week. Without any boosts or grudges, we saw 2 WP teams fighting each other, and in spite of the fact that NW fielded 5 NSL more, it was JG whose performance was better. (especially the defensive performance, by the way). The 19-16 in the end was not a big difference, but enough to make sure that we can expect some exciting last matches, for that last relegation spot.
