DIVISION 1 GAMES

Both InterQuartile Rangers and Catbel Athletic got 1 point out of their first match. Could either team get their first win in this clash against each other? Yup, indeed! Both Terry and Ivo played a rather attacking CP. They were almost equally strong, in spite of playing an away game, CA even was a little stronger. As a result of that, CA created 26 chances, against 25 for IQ. A difference that can be neglected, when you conside that both teams had NSL 10 GK’s, and everyone knows that anything can happen. In this particular occasion, it was Terry and IQ who were the luckiest (because that is what decided this game, luck!). IQ had 1 chance less, but still scored 1 more goal, and the result in the end was 12-11. With the win and the 3 points, IQ will climb the table, and CA will drop a few, but Ivo doesn’t need to worry yet, CA was just unlucky and the result could have been the other way around just like that. Besides, with almost 130 EMP in an away game, you don’t need to worry that soon either.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Tottenfort Heats and Lisbon United are 2 teams known for their strong defense. Both teams played 0-0 last week, and in this clash against each other, another ZD-ZD match was to be feared, with a 0-0 in the end as a predictable result. However, Nuno changed that plan, and played CP (which of course is a logical alternative for ZD). However, Mark did not change his plans, and so TH played the usual strong ZD. That defense was too strong for LU’s attack, and with that, we got the result that we expected after all: 0-0. In fact, it was only for the fact that Nuno played a boost, that prevented TH to be awarded a smother shot. So, both TH and LU are still without any goals (either for and against) after 2 matches. Will we see the first score next week?

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

FC Inferno and Adirondak Renegades are 2 of the 3 teams that lost their first match, and this week they play against each other, which of course means that after week 2, there will be max. 2 teams without points. Marco was unlucky last week, as he saw his plans to beat TB crushed by an early red card, and a poor performance from his goalie. Don was maybe even more unlucky, losing the opening match against JG. In this match, only for one team that bad luck could change, and that lucky team was AR. Both Marco and Don played a strong team 101.50, but it was FI who were (because of the home advantage) the better team. FI created 20 chances, against 18 for AR. However, AR’s goalie was just a little better (10 against 9.5), so I guess that evened things. The 8-10 victory after 90 minutes for AR, was a fair result of course, but a 10-8 victory for FU would have been just as fair. AR climb the table, while FI remain at the bottom, but in spite of that, with 140 EMP Marco doesn’t need to worry yet.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Jazz Greats, the reigning champion, are one of the 3 teams that were able to win their first game. This week, they face Point of Napier, who won 1 point last week. We could all see that Bart traded away a lot of players last week, and started rebuilding. So, the question was: how strong is the “young’ JG? Well, the answer is easy this week: strong enough to win another match, and stay in the top of the table. Instead of Bart, Kelly did not change PN that much, and that meant that the WP (and its strength) was more or less predictable. Bart anticipated on that, even picked the right markers, and with that, the defense he played (plus the home advantage) was too strong for PN. The difference was good for 1 smother shot, but because Mbamba didn’t miss, it was enough for another victory and 3 points. JG are off to a very good start, and Bart will be happy with that, but with 123 NSL in a home match, I suppose he’s not happy with the points because he needs them for another title race.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Alcohol Anonymous against NoShaKi WC98 still sounds like a top match, but the truth is that it hasn’t been a top match anymore for quite a while. Vince of course is not to blame for that, as he took over a rather deteriorated NW, and has been rebuilding. However, in order to beat AA at the Local Pub, he does need more time to rebuild. Nathan played a CP that was too strong for the WP that was expected by NW. With that, the difference between AA and NW was in fact bigger than the 15-12 would make you think. Nonetheless, AA win 3 points and secure a nice league position, while NW remain without points.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Druss Legends against The Boelewieten is the first top clash this season. Sure, you might say that it doesn’t say that much when the nrs. 1 and 2 play against each other, because only 1 game has been played this season, but when you look at the performances by both DL and TB (the numbers 2 and 4 of season 12), I bet it’s still a safe thing to say. Jeroen tried to outsmart Martijn. Usually, every team plays the first 2 matches with the strongest possible team, in the strongest possible tactics. That’s easy, because all players start “fresh”. After those first 2 matches, depending on either cup or league priorities, already the first teams start rotating their best players. Jeroen however, chose to play a surprising LB, instead of his strong CP. He was probably figuring that Martijn would play the usual WP. However, Martijn also tried to outsmart Jeroen, by playing OFF all of a sudden. That was even more risky than Jeroens LB, but it in spite of that, it turned out to be successful. However, it wasn’t any smart move that made the difference here, but the red card for CF Rowbottom. That cost TB 7.90 EMP, and one look at the stats learns that that cost TB the victory as well. Besides that, in my opinion the LB wasn’t a good idea either. At least not against DL. When you check out all the DL matches. (Well, those of last season of course), you learn that DL plays WP most of the times, with an occasional OFF. Against WP, I think CP still is a better tactics than LB, especially when it’s your strongest tactics. Besides, against OFF, CP is much much better of course. Nonetheless, that is just theory ,because TB is a strong team, it was the red card that cost them the match, not the tatics. However, if they would have played CP, I bet that even with that red card, they would have won the match.
