DIVISION 2 GAMES

Smoking Guns and Fanatics United are 2 of the 4 teams that lost their first match, and because of the fact that they play each other this week, at least one team would win their first points this week. Monty wanted that team to be SG very much of course, and played a boost. That plus the home advantage had to beat FU. However, his efforts were in vain, as FU was too strong to be beaten this week. Denis made a few changes after last weeks defeat, and those changes turned out to be for the better. FU was a lot stronger than SG, and it was only because of the fact that FU still played with a NSL 8 GK instead of a better one, that the result in the end was still very close. In spite of the win, FU needs to play with a better Keeper than this one, if they want to achieve anything this season. And for SG, looking at the first 2 matches, I am afraid that it will take more than playing boosts to win matches this season, but I am confident that Monty will come up with something.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Last week, Len showed us that Stannington Historical, who just promoted to div 2, immediately is one of the title contenders, by winning the very first match, and taking the lead in the rankings. Even if only on goal difference, we saw SH where we have seen them almost the entire previous season: at position nr. 1. This week, we will find out if that was just a coincidence, or if Len really is jumping back to div 1 in a hurry. SH’s opponent this week is OC, the team that –if I remember well- relegated from div 1 at the same time as SH. Keith however, has managed to save OC from relegation to div 3, unlike SH. Now however, it seems like SH has come back stronger, as after OC lost their first match last week, they did not stand a chance against this SH either. I bet Keith has been busy this week, at least too busy to check out his opponent, or else he never would have played ZD against a team that is known for its strong WP. That made that SH was sooooooo strong! With almost 150 EMP, they performed like a Div 1 title candidate. And of course, that is good enough for Div 2 too. SH strengthen their leading position, while OC is still waiting for the first points

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

The Jazz is, besides SH, one of the 3 other teams to win their first match. After we have already seen SH win their game, the question of course is: who will follow? TJ faced Excelsior Warren, and after last weeks draw against DT, Simon wanted a win, and played a grudge. That of course made EW stronger, in fact even stronger than TJ. In EMP, that is. However, where TJ played with a NSL 10 GK, EW’s goalie was only 9 NSL, and that was too big a difference, and made that TJ won the game after all, even though with the slightest difference: 13-12. So, the answer to the question is: Stewart and TJ will follow! They are up ahead with SH, with 6 points out of the first 2 matches, waiting what the other 2 teams will have done. Simon and EW will have to wait at least another week for that first win.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Fantastic Eleven is a midtable team, where Grammar United is the team at the bottom. However, that doesn’t mean a thing of course after only 1 week, and only 1 point separates them, so after this match, probably everything will be different. Clive played the usual strong WP, but on the other side, Mike played the usual strong defense that GU has been famous for for ages. And once again, that defense was too strong. Sure, FE was still a little stronger, but it was not enough for a smother shot, and with that the match ended like so many GU matches end: 0-0. First point for GU, and FE double their points. However, for both teams of course, a victory would be useful if they want to go for let’s say a playoff spot.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Apocalypse and Deo Volente were 2 of the 4 teams to win their first match. Of course, both Craig and Otto wanted to follow up that good result with another. Craig played the usual WP for AP, and Otto, being the manager of an away playing team, even played a grudge along with his OFF tactics, in order to neutralize a AP attack. Well, that was partly successful. Sure, it made that the AP attackers did not perform as good as they can. But still, AP’s attackers are extraordinary good, so in spite of the OFF, AP was still the better team. However, AP’s GK is not as good as the attack, and that is what made that after 90 minutes, the result was 12-12 When you take everything (so including the GK) into account, the draw is fair, although I bet that both managers (you don’t play a Grudge for just 1 point) will feel like losing 2.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 2

Defrosted Tunafish and Newton Heath won 1 point in the first round. This match against each other could mean the first victory for either team. It was Claudio who had the best of it. In spite of playing with just a little less NSL, the home advantage plus the better tactics made that DT was still the better team. The difference in fact was almost 10 EMP, and because both teams played attacking (WP vs. ONE), that resulted in a lot of chances: 38 for DT against 29 for NH. Both teams playing with a NSL 10 goalie: that should be a clear and fair win for DT you’d think. But, then we did not take that “LUCK”-factor into account. Roberts middle name is “Lucky” this week: his GK played the match of his life and safe chance after chance, and after 90 minutes, that meant that the brave DT were left empty handed, while NH took the 3 points home! Very good start for Robert and NH, while DT should not worry, as they have a strong team, and statistically, their luck should change……..
