PRESS REPORT

Adirondak Renegades

. Adirondak Press (AP): A Division 1 Win!

Manager Fulmer (MF): Yes, that was good to see, especially against a strong side like FI.

AP: Now that you have had a couple of weeks to see the teams this season, who do you think the favorites are?

MF: Excellent question. Division 1 looks strong and very balanced this season. TB was my preseason favorite, and they still are, but they will have a lot of company at the top. AA and FI look very strong, although FI has gotten of to a very unlucky start. IQ also looks very strong, and with the improvement of WK Ballack, WH Tevez, and CF Wambach, to go along with AM Hamm, they can put out a very powerful side. They should be a top team for the next 2-3 season with these players. Plus, don't forget CA. Ivo has been quiet and rebuilding since his title. I don't think CA is there yet, but don't count them out.

AP: How about defending champ JG?

MF: Nope

AP: How about teams facing relegation?

MF: That will also be a tough battle, but I'l going to be a chicken and not address that.

AP: OK, maybe you'll talk about the Cup.

MF: Sure. This depends on which teams are going to make the Cup a priority. With the balance in Div 1, it will be very tough to go for the Season and Cup titles. So start with any title contenders that want to focus on the Cup. Add TH, always add TH when it comes to the Cup. Mark seems to have dropped of the face of the earth since he had child #2, at least of the face of the e-mail soccer earth, but he will still find time to make a Cup run.

AP: Any Division 2 or 3 teams that will make a strong run?

MF: Definitely, but it is very hard to predict. Last season TS made a great run, but I don't think anyone would have predicited it befoe the season. I think SH is strong enough to lmake a strong bid, but I think Len's priority is to get back to Division 1 and I don't know if SH has enoughh depth to do both.

Well, a one point victory may not sound like a big deal, but it's the first time I've beat Ivo in a long time.  But then I have a decent CP to play against his CP.  Usually, it gives him a small advantage against my most powerful ONE.  So it's a benchmark of the progress I've made.  When I first started in SAEFL IQ was so bad I had a wide variety of tactics to choose from.  After all, crap is not that much different from crap.  Then for a couple of years I only had a choice of one tactic which made things predictable.  So having a choice of several tactics makes it much more enjoyable.  I still need a lot of luck since the RNG does weird things.

The cup starts again.  Speaking of luck, do I run into a serious contender early again?  Or do I get to make it to the final without serious competition as happened 2 seasons ago?

Still, considering how well I've improved relative to CA going for the league is also an option.  Decisions, decisions...  Guess I'll figure that out in a few weeks.  Maybe it will be a repeat of last year and I just float in the middle of the division?

Well last week, we got pretty unlucky again.  The game was pretty close but we still ended up losing by one goal.  We are now in the lower half of the table in Division 1 and need to start winning if we hope to stay here for next season.  We did not have very high hopes for this season coming into it but we would still like to avoid relegation.  Regardless, this week is a cup week so the regular season does not matter right now.  In the past, we have not tried very hard in the cup but, for this game, we are fielding an average team.  Perhaps this will be enough to win but it is not crucial that we do.

The Boelewieten

What a mojor blow last week. The TB board was furious at the TB manager. No way a loss as this can happen. The comment of the respected I. Kroon said it all: "When you check out all the DL matches. (Well, those of last season of course), you learn that DL plays WP most of the times, with an occasional OFF. Against WP, I think CP still is a better tactics than LB, especially when it’s your strongest tactics. Besides, against OFF, CP is much much better of course". And that was the point. The TB manager looked at the NSL that DL could mount, not at tactics he played before. So, the board gave Van Poppel a mission for this week, make a table of the played tactics of all div 1 teams, like he did before. Pride comes before the fall.

The Jazz Greats

We got 6 points from the first two matches which is alot more than i hoped for. But now we face the harsh reality of a div3 team (EU) that can easily outemp emp us!

But we will see what happens. There is always the small possibiliy that he will drop the cup. Yeah, right..

Apocalypse

Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes since joining the League at this week. This first week may be a little experimental - but we think we can be Len's biggest challenger for top spot in League 2 this season.

We watched our game against todays opponents DV in the league at the weekend - and think "we wuz robbed" in only getting a draw - we fully expect to put that right today in the Cup and claim a victory for my first game at the helm!

Another solid win for SH this week. SH Manager Lear stated," I was rather happy with this  9 - nil victory because it showed to the other SAEFL teams that we can play defence also, especially against an explosive team such as OC. I must give credit to our backfield who time and time again shut down OC. Probably the most beneficial deal to our club was the acquisition of CB Foxe and it paid dividends in our OC match. It definitely filled a hole in our backfield. "

Lear was also happy for another reason with SH. Besides our solid defensive play, our goal production is being spread around. Unlike last season where most of our goals were from Garcia, Morales, and Jayden, now players such as Brooker, Griffith and some of our midfielders are starting to produce. I hope this will start to cause some and worry to our opponents.

The problem that is facing SH now is how to approach the upcoming cup matches. Everyone knows that the main goal of SH this season is to get to D-1....so what do we do? Do we decide to take a bloody good run at EW(our first cup opponent) and risk possible injuries/suspensions to our top players such as Garcia and Morales or do we play some of our extremely talented youngsters who deserve a spot in the starting  SH 11. This is always an issue faced by numerous other managers.

What compounds all of this is the fact our first Cup match is against EW managed by Sir Simon Bracegirdle. The teams managed by me during the past many seasons have always had some excellent matches versus sides managed by Simon. I know again this time it will be no different as in the past. SH doesn't want to play a weak lineup against EW and get totally embarassed. So I have to put my thinking cap and come up with a strategy to do battle once again against EW.

Good luck to all teams in the Cup Competition.

After an unfortunate GC played by the Speedsters, the Selects find themselves win-less in the league.

This week sees a big match against top flight club AR.

There are a couple of debuts this week for the Selects. Newly acquired MF DeCeulaer makes his first everstart for the club, so we are looking for big things from him.

The Selects are going with a defensive line up against the top division side, so we expect a low scoring game.

Cup games are not our priority this season as we don't want to be found anywhere near the bottom of the log again this season.
