DIVISION 1 GAMES

In the first match of this week, that between Lisbon United against Druss Legends, the first thing that came to mind was that Nuno must have been busy this week, very busy, when sending in the orders. I cannot think of any other explanation than that, because a manager as qualified and experienced as Nuno, would not play ZD against a WP team under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, for him that is, of course that hasty sending in cost him the match. Against a team as good as Martijns DL, you just can’t afford to make these kind of mistakes. The 6-2 victory for DL in the end was no less than a logical result. Martijn will be very happy with this easy win in an away game against a tough team, that also played a boost! 3 very lucky points, that keep him in the lead of the table.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

The Boelewieten vs. Jazz Greats is not just a match between 2 top teams, it is also an emotional clash between 2 of the finest dutch managers, Jeroen and Bart. (Bwhahahahahaha……….oh well…….) In the past, Jeroen has lost a couple of times against JG, sometimes even when TB was the better team. Apparantly, this time he wanted to prevent that to happen again, played a 104 NSL (!!) team (because of a boost as well of course), and with that, he was more than ready to face JG. More than ready that was, also because Bart already figured that JG would not have much chance to win this one, and rested players. TB really outclassed JG here. They could have saved that boost, but at least Jeroen got what he wanted: a victory over JG! Both teams have 6 points out of the first 3 matches now, and with that they are in the top half of the table.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

Point of Napier AFC and Tottenford Heats are 2 teams that are still waiting for their first victory this season, and this match against each other of course would be an excellent opportunity to go for that first win. Mark apparently did have the time to check out that Kelly’s nr. 1 tactics is WP, and because of that he switched from his usual ZD tactics towards the logical alternative: CP. That usually results in a match with a lot of goals, and this match was no exception. In the end, Marks move proved to be a smart one, as his CP turned out to be stronger than Kelly’s WP, and the 16-22 after 90 minutes was a fair reflection of the match. Mark will be happy with the first win, and Kelly has to wait at least 2 more weeks, as next week we have cup matches.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

Catbel Athletic and Alcohol Anonymous are 2 of the stronger teams in SAEFL However, while AA is where you would expect them (in the top of the table), CA fall behind a little. Sure, CA’s performance (in EMP) has been good this season, but with one unlucky defeat and a draw, the result is only 1 point. This match against AA promised to be another tough one, so no easy chance to do something about that without much effort. As expected, Nathan played a very strong defense. Ivo countered that with (because of the home advantage) an even stronger defense. That resulted in almost 140 EMP, which is quite impressive, and against a lot of other teams it would have been enough for a victory. But against this AA, it meant that CA indeed was a little better, but it was not enough for a smother shot. And with that, the match ended as it started: 0-0. Which, I guess, may be not that rewarding for both Nathan and Ivo, but that’s what you get when playing strong defense against other strong defense teams. A point each time doesn’t get you that hight on the table. However, against other teams, the high EMP may be enough for 3 points.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

Adirondak Renegades and InterQuartile Rangers are the 2 teams that (I expect) can be the surprise-team this season. Both Don and Terry have been building towards a team that seems to be very good this season, and who knows what they will be capable of. With 3 resp. 4 points, they are already in the top half of the table, and who knows what more they can reach. In this clash against each other, of course at least one of them was going to lose points. And in spite of the fact that of course neither manager wanted to be that, both Don and Terry saved their boosts and grudges. That resulted in a match in which both AR and IQ showed a great performance, with strong EMP. Almost equally strong. IQ in fact turned out to be just a little stronger, but it wasn’t much. In chances, it was 33 against 36, but I guess the 15-15 result was fair enough. However, I can image that both Don and Terry will have wanted to win this match up front.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

NoShaKi WC’98 and FC Inferno are the only 2 teams who were still without points after the first 2 league matches. So, of course that was going to change when they play against each other. At least one team was going to win points, and looking at this match, Marco was very unlucky that it was not his FI. The 102.25 NSL TS team that he fielded was stronger than NW’s 98.50 NSL WP team. However, that advantage disappeared when the FI star player Flannery was shown a red card already in the 4th minute. Nonetheless, even in spite of the red card, NW and FI turned out to be equally good: 123.65 EMP against 123.05 EMP. But NW had the better goalie and that is what was decisive for the result in the end. Well, that of course, plus the fact that the NW players managed to score all chances given:4-2. First victory for NW, that makes them escape the relegation zone, while FI is still without points. But in spite of another week with bad luck, I still think that Marco doesn’t need to worry, as FI of course is strong enough to escape the danger zone. It just will take them a week longer now.
