DIVISION 2 GAMES

After 2 matches, we find The Jazz and Deo Volente 2nd and 4th place on the table, so this clash against each other means a top match! Winning this match would mean beating a rival for a good league position, so both Otto and Stewart had something at stake here. It was DV who turned out the better team. And that was not just because of the home advantage. DV played 5 NSL more, and in EMP, the difference was even bigger. With no injuries or suspensions on either side, that resulted in a lot more chances for DV, and eventually also in more goals: 16-6. Looks like a big difference between 2 top teams, but it was a fair reflection. DV catch TJ on the table, and climb, but TJ is still in the top half as well.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

After winning div 3, Stannington Historical is once again leading a table. Only now, it’s the div 2 table. It will of course be no surprise that Len wants to stay in the lead. In order to achieve that, they had to beat Newton Heath. That seemed to be a tough match. Robert has done well with NH in the first weeks, and with 4 points, we find them on the 5th position. That is why Len played a grudge. That had to help him and SH win this difficult away game. That, and the 102.50 (!!) NSL indeed made that SH turned out to be a lot stronger than NH. And Robert will be fair enough to admit that SH in fact deserved to win this match. But they didn’t. The 18 EMP surplus, and the difference of 15 chances in SH’s favour (47 against 32) appeared to be not a big enough difference to beat NH, when goalie T. Howard1 had the day of his life and saved chance after chance. The 14-14 after 90 minutes meant a lucky point for NH, and 2 points lost for SH. Still, with 7 out of 3, SH stay in the lead, together with DV, and maybe AP. If they manage to win their match.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

And already in the next match we have the answer to that: yes indeed Apocalypse win their match. In spite of the fact that Mike plays a home match with GU with 92.50 NSL (which is rather strong of course), Craig tops that with AP, playing 99 NSL. That turned out to be too much for GU. The difference wasn’t even that very big, but with 3 shots against 0, of which 2 were scored, it was enough for a victory and 3 points, and that is what counts. With 7 out of 3, AP join DV and SH at the top of the table, while after this loss GU remain in the bottom half.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

Oaklake City against Smoking Guns turned out to be a strange match. Regardless of the results and the performance, we noticed no less than 3 injuries, and at this early stage of the season, with only 3 matches played, that is rather remarkable. Sure, there’s always a small chance that a player gets injured, but 3 at the same time, when the SP is at least 27? Strange………. That was not the only strange thing. OC was much better than SG. Keith played a 94.75 CP team, against the 92.25 WH from Monty. In EMP, probably also because of the injuries, the difference was even bigger: 115.93 against 96.25. That meant 31 chances for OC, against “only” 15 for SG. That is more than twice as much! Given the fact that both teams played with a NSL 10 GK, you’d think there’s only 1 possible outcome here, and that is a win for OC. However, for some reason, SG’s goalie had the craziest savings this match, and after 90 minutes, all the spectators had the feeling they were having a bad dream, ‘cause the scoreboard said 9-11. Strange match………

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

With 1 resp. 2 points out of the first 2 matches, both Excelsior Warren and Fantastic Eleven had kind of a false start, as both teams are teams you’d expect in the top half of the table. In this match against each other, Simon was the one who, wanted to put in a little extra effort. By playing a boost on top of the home advantage, he hoped to beat EW and take that step towards the top half of the table. These intentions were good, and you never know of course, but I guess it would have worked as well, if it weren’t for the fact that the EW players could not keep their cool in this important match. No less than 2 players had to leave the field, and it is only because FE’s CF Mathee (provoked as he was) also had to lave the pich, that both teams turned out to be equally good after 90 minutes. Simon will not be happy, but at least he can be happy with the boost he played, as if he didn’t, he would have lost this one for sure. Clive will not be happy either, as with 18 chances against 16, you should win a match if your own GK is 10 and your opponents GK is 9. But on the other hand, in spite of those figures, if it weren’t for the red cards, EW would have won this match. So with all information in mind, I guess I can live with a draw. And I hope Simon and Clive can as well.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 4

Fanatics United and Defrosted Tunafish are –already- midtable teams, and –although you never know- I expect Denis and Claudio and their teams to be midtable teams, fighting for a playoff spot, until the very end. In this particular match, it was the home team, FU, who had the best of it. Compared to FU, it looked like DT were resting players. (And maybe they did). The 20-9 in the end was no surprise under the current circumstances, and with that the victory for FU plus the 3 points that go with it were very much deserved.
